He played with the paper weight as his ears went dumb to Mihir's take on the next proposal.
"Bhai.."
"Bhai." Mihir's tap on the table brought him out of reverie as he looked at his friend in jiffy.
"I am sorry.. what was the quotation ?" He raked his hand in his hairs.
"Bhai, are you sure about Ishita?" He looked at his confidante and rested back.
"Yes."
"Are you really sure?"
"Yes."
"You are not hurrying into this engagement?"
"No."
"Is she comfortable into this?"
His question left him thinking.
"I know this marriage is fixed by ma but I don't think I will find someone better than her. She is sharp, witty, dynamic and doesn't hesitate to put forth her opinion but-"
"But you are not sure if she is really into this marriage?"
"I don't know Mihir. She is not someone who will get into something unwillingly. Trust me no one, literally no one can force her." He smiled recalling his two meetings with her.
"So?"
"I think she is troubled, basically confused. She wants to say No but somewhere she thinks Yes is also not a bad option. She is in this whirlpool which is making me think."
"Why don't you talk to her?"
"I don't want to press things on her. I am already annoying her, so don't want to pull the strings more."
"Are you happy ?"
"I want her to be content." He said and Mihir nodded.

After three hours of exchanging rings, swallowing almost all types sweets and bearing flashes of cameras for the extensive photoshoot with Iyers and Bhallas- the duo was left to themselves for entertaining the remaining guests of extended family.
"Congratulations." He said looking at white gold band
"Same to you." She mumbled as her eyes went to her ring, a slender band with a solitaire- classic ring styles which graced her ring finger.
They both looked at each other and tried a awkward smile, failing miserably.
"Honestly! This is insane." Raman spoke up tired of acknowledging everybody and hugging every other person.
"Old aunties seem to love you. Pretty popular!" She stated Finally finding him Pissed ! Relief
"I am jumping into a war zone, they are just showering me with blessings." Not so soon Iyer. Ball is still in my court.
"Not funny!" She said making a face while he laughed off.
He looked around and passed a few customary smiles
"Circus!"
"What ?"
"This is literally circus and we are financing it." He said knitting his eyebrows in irritation
"Miser !"
"What?"
"Tell me Raman Kumar Bhalla, tell me you didn't steal this ring." She said dramatically, purposely trying to piss him off while he looked at her shocked
"Tell me Soon to be Mrs.Raman Kumar Bhalla that you got MRI brain done and didn't find a trace because if you did, I will be stunned." He replied while she opened her mouth to speak but words failed her and he laughed "I am not easily pissed, specially by you." He placed his finger on her chin and closed her mouth.

"I am sorry if I interrupted a moment." Mihir's voice made both their heads turn
"Shutup Mihir." Raman got up from sofa and hugged him
"Sorry Bhai, my flight got delayed."
"Pagal hai kya ? Glad you came." He patted Mihir's back and walked to where Ishita stood.
"Ishita, well he is Mihir-my younger brother." Raman introduced
"Brothers from different mothers." Mihir added which made Ishita laugh.
"Namaste Bhabhiji." Mihir playfully folded his hands and Ishita looked at Raman confused as he gestured to take in stride
"Please don't say that. I almost feel like in mid forties." She said extending her hand " Ishita, only Ishita." Mihir smiled and shook hands with her.
"Congratulations Ishita ! Only Ishita." He said cheekily
"Nice to me you."
"Pleasure all mine." Mihir replied and she smile.
After little chitchat, Mihir excused himself
"Wao ! You talk normally also. I thought Jhansi ki Rani avtar is always on forefront." Raman asked suppressing a smile
"It depends if the person I am talking to is saint or a devil." She snapped "Oh so -" he stopped in mid sentence as Ishita's gaze stood fixed at something behind his back.

Raman turned to look at the object of concern but the hustle bustle and dozens of unfamiliar faces left him confused. He looked back at Ishita and noticed her eyes juggling between him and something else at the background.

"Is everything fine?" He broke her trance but before she could reply, a screeching sound reached them.
"Isheeta ! Congratulations." and she was taken into an unexpected hug. Raman finally found the person his curiosity in front of his eyes - He was tall, fair and surely a Madrasi while the lady hugging Ishita seemed like just another pick from the elite society gossip sector.
"Thank you Shagun. I am shocked that you are so happy for me." She replied coming out of the hug Jhansi Ki Rani.
"Oh cum'on Isheeta. Anyways look who is here - Subbu." Shagun said while linking her arms with Subbu who stood there baffled. Raman almost felt like a third party but looking at Ishita's face, he knew some entertainment is yet to come.
"I expected him. How can he not follow you everywhere?" She replied clenching her teeth while Subbu downcasted his eyes.
"Congratulations Ishita." He spoke as softly as he could
"Thank you Subbu. I am glad you came though you were not invited." She snapped and Raman tried hard to stifle his laugh as she glared back at him.
"Hi, I am Raman ! This is my engagement too." He interrupted to lighten up since his lady was on verge to commit a murder
"Hello Raman ! Who doesn't know you !" The lady took his hand for a handshake followed by the guy which obviously didn't go very well with Ishita.
"I am Shagun and he is my fiancee Subramaniyum." She spoke not failing to glance at Ishita during his introduction. Bitch !
"You know Raman, Isheeta was so madly in love with Subbu that I never thought she will move on." He cringed at her remarks and glanced at Ishita who had lowered her eyes.
"I am glad that she moved on. Not everyone is as lucky as me." His tone underlayed with spite and his stern demeanour got the couple in front on backfoot.
"Now if you could excuse us please." he continued as he encircled his arm around Ishita's shoulder.
"You want to sit ?" He asked concerned, still not pulling off his arm while she nodded.

She rolled her engagement ring continously while her gaze set on her hands
"Don't tell me that you are gonna cry now !" His voice made her lift her face
"I am not crying." He intently stared at her eyes which glistened with tears Yes she is !
