"Are you ready?" He asked her, leaning on the doorframe.
"Almost." She said giving herself a last glance in the mirror as she turned around to leave.
"Won't you even kiss you mother today?" Her mother asked who was adoring her daughter from distance.
"Oops." Ruhi leapt forward to kiss her mother before she left with her father.
"I'll miss you." Ishita said after kissing her daughter.
"So what's the plan daddy?" She asked as soon as he secured the seat belt over her and started the ignition.
"What ever you want darling." He replied turning the car out of the building.
"Then its going to be a long list daddy." She warned him.
"Its a daddy-daughter date and I was told to only say yes to your wishes."
"Let's begin with shopping and then McDonald's?" She suggested.
He only nodded and took his daughter to mall first. The smile that played on her lips was worth a million-dollar. The joy of seeing her enjoy herself immensely was not even close to his expectations when he had suggested his wife for the day out when ishita had to stay overnight with her sister. Vandita's baby was due today but the complications had delayed the arrival. Ruhi was already upset after her mother's absencw last night and after seeing her trepidition today, he had suggested the idea of daddy-daughter date while his wife could stay with her sister in the hospital.
The next couple of hours were spent in running around the mall, buying her favorite stuffed toy, her gown and a similar looking one for her mother. It was Raman's suggestion, to see both his girls in the same ourtfit and his daughter had only jumped in glee and agreed instantly. After the dinner, they stopped by for ice cream and on the way back ruhi slept with a peaceful smile on her face. He took her up along with all the shopping, tucked her in bed, kissed her good night and called his wife for the updates.
"How is she now?"
"Still in pain."
"How long will it take?"
"They'll induce her, another couple of hours perhaps."
"Did you have dinner?"
"Yes."
"Let me guess, a sandwich?"
She only smiled in response. He did know her too well.
"I'm coming over."
"You don't have to."
"I'm not asking you."
He was outside her room in exactly half hour with her favorite cuisine.
"Raman."
"Let's have dinner, I'm hungry."
"Didn't you have it with ruhi?"
"McDonalds is not really my idea of dinner."
"Chinese!" She squealed when she unpacked the good item.
"I brought paper plates also, where is vandita?"
"In labor room."
"And bala?" He asked sitting bseside her on the sofa.
"With her. How was your date?"
"Perfect."
"You are making me jealous of my own daughter."
"At least she is easy to please."
She stopped eating at that and raised an eyebrow at that remark.
"I mean it, she doesn't find my choice gaudy."
"You took her shopping?"
"Well, I couldn't say no." He focused on his plate, knowing well her expression was going to be.
"Let me guess, a new outfit?"
"Wow!" She did know her daughter, all right.
"Raman she already has enough new dresses."
"Don't get all riled up, I bought you a new one too."
"You should spend more carefully, Raman."
"See? That's what I'm talking about. You are so difficult to please."
She laughed before saying, "thank you."
"You are welcome." He smiled looking at her.
"When should I come to pick you next?" He asked getting up.
"It might take long. I'll come myself in the morning."
"Don't be a superwoman, I'll come to pick you."
When she opened her mouth to protest, he seized it with his. "No more argument." He replied when he pulled back.
"Drive safe." She asked him.
"I will. Take care of yourself and call me when you are done."
"Raman." She stopped him at the doorway and hugged him, "I love you." She said.
"I love you more." He replied, kissed her forehead and left.
I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me
Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
I'm in love, I'm a believer!
I couldn't leave her if I tried.
