awesome update. loved it.
now Raman know who is ishita. liked d jealous Raman when he thought that mihir likes ishita.
she was in his school. she has given him advice but he didn't listen n he is feeling bad about it.
ishita was shocked when she come to know that he found who she is.

Ajab Leher Hai Meri Padosi

Chapter 9

[Naina tere kajraare hai, nainon pe hum dil haarein hai
Anjaney hi tere naino ne, waadein kiye kayi saare hai]

"Why are you talking in third person?" he asked with mild curiosity

"Because, I'm not her anymore and you are definitely not him" she said.

The way she presented the blunt truth shook him to the core. Yes, she was right, he was nothing like the Raman he was years ago. He has changed so much that now when he looks at the mirror, he can't recognize his own reflection.

He wondered how the woman in front of him knew him so well when the woman he spent almost 15 years of his life knew nothing about him.

He sighed, she was such a wonderful human being, and she definitely didn't deserve a broken man like him, she deserved someone who would wholeheartedly love her and she will soon understand this.

"Why do you still love me then? I'm not the same guy you fell in love with" he asked

She grinned

"what?" he enquired "why are you grinning?"

"You just accepted the fact that I love you" she said, smiling now

He was tongue tied; he has indeed accepted her love

"Anyways, coming to the question that you asked" she continued "I did tell you the other day that I don't like you, I love you" seeing him confused, she said "Mr Bhalla, likes can be changed with time, love can't. When you love a person, you love his soul and even death can't change the feelings because souls are immortal"

She looked up at him to see him look at her tenderly "You are a wonderful person Ishita, but I can't give you what you want. You deserve someone better, someone who isn't scarred by his past, someone who doesn't live in his past... and I..."

She shut him up with a finger on his lips "you live in your past because you don't see a future, I want to show you a present and a future so that you can leave your past behind" tears threatened to come out of her eyes, "Can't you try?... please"

He slowly but firmly removed her finger, "No I can't, I don't believe in love"

"That's not true" she retorted "You do believe in my love and it won't be long before you start believing that you too can love again"

"NO" he said curtly, "I can't and I never will" he looked pointedly at her "Listen Ishita, just because I understand doesn't change anything between us. Don't push your luck. Mujhe apne haal mein chhodh do" He got up and left in a jiffy.

"Nehi chhodh sakti mai aapko apke haal mein" she said to herself

The constant ringing of the doorbell irritated him to the core. He decided to teach the person who was trying to disturb his perfect cooking session. He rushed to the door and opened it.

His mouth hung open when he saw a grinning Ishita standing at his door with a huge tray filled with food, when he didn't say anything for long she pushed him slightly

"Move" she said "This is so heavy, you can ogle at me later" she winked at him and entered the hall.

She placed the food on the table and called out loudly for Ruhi, as if it was her everyday routine. Ruhi came running by

"We don't need your food" he said angrily "I have made dinner for us"

"You mean for yourself?" she said as she hugged Ruhi "because me and Ruhi are having a preplanned chinese dinner tonight" she turned to Ruhi and asked "Haina Ruh?"

"Ha papa" ruhi said "sorry mai aapko bolna bhul gayi. I asked Ishita aunty to prepare Chinese for me"

"Very nice" raman murmured "Now that she's here, you don't need your father" he went to the kitchen to bring his own food.

The three of them settled on the table

"Are you sure you don't want to taste it a little Mr Bhalla?" Ishita asked for the third time and he glared at her for the third time.

"Its really tasty papa, you should try it" Ruhi said

His mouth was watering at the prospect of trying the dish but his ego wasn't allowing him

"Thik hai Ruhi, since you are insisting so much, I can't say no to you" he said and grabbed the food with both hands

Ishita tried hard not to laugh as she sat there watching him eat twice the amount of food that she and Ruhi were having. Ruhi also gave her a knowing smile.

It has been three months since the day, nothing changed between them, they still fought at every given opportunity. A rational conversation was impossible with them together. Ruhi and Mihika have learnt to live with it.

Raman still tries to make Ishita see sense and stop perusing him and Ishita never leaves an opportunity to tell him how much she loves him.

But there were a few things that had changed; Mihika now agreed with Ishita that Raman indeed deserved her sister. The one month deadline that she had imposed on her sister was removed. She now happily joined the bhallas for dinner. The bhallas on the other hand have altogether stopped making dinners and were happily eating the dinner their neighbor made with so much of love.

One evening, when Raman returned from office, he met Ishita midway in the stairs. He stood immobile for a few seconds, she was wearing a white saree, her hairs were tied up in a French bun and she was looking mesmerizing. He had never seen her look like this, he tried looking away but his eyes won't leave her.

She called him out, that brought him out of his reverie

He coughed to lessen the tension that was building up "Ahem, saj dhaj ke kaha chal di Madrassan?" he enquired

"Amma called" she said sounding irritated "she wants me to meet subbu"

"Who's Subbu?" he asked curiously

"The irritating leech who won't get off my back. He wants to take me to this party" She was so busy in letting out her frustration that she didn't notice Raman's face change color "So, today I'll finally tell him on his face that I'm not interested in him" she huffed

He didn't understand the sudden rage that started erupting in him, he blamed it on his tiredness "So you are all dressed up for him just to tell him that you aren't interested in him?" he said rudely

She was surprised at his tone but quickly hid the shock; she thought he probably had a bad day at office.

"Oh this saree" she looked down at her saree "Amma came by this morning and gave it to me, she's crazy"

"Your amma is right, you should marry him" he said with an extra effort today, he wondered whether he sounded convincing enough.

She rolled her eyes "Yes, yes blah blah blah..." She descended the stairs and looked back "bye, Mihika will bring the dinner tonight... love you"

Strangely, the last two words seemed to have sent a cool wave around him. The words that angered him, was soothing him today.

It was only after she turned back, he noticed how exposed her back was. He gulped, he needed another of those cold showers, only today it would have to be longer because this was the first time he saw her so scantily dressed. Her blouse left little to one's imagination. His fingers tickled as he wondered what it would be like to run them down her spine. Why the hell did her mother gift this to her daughter unless she wanted her daughter to have sex before marriage?

If his body was reacting in this way at just a glance, he wondered what subbu would do to her in the entire evening. A strange uneasiness settled at the pit of his stomach.

"Wait" he said

She looked back

He scratched his forehead trying to put his thoughts together

"You look like a middle aged aunty in that bun"

She turned back with a sad face and asked "Really?" She hurriedly pulled the hair-stick off her bun, her hair fell down smoothly around her back "Is it ok now?"

"Yes" he said and turned around with a victory grin, mission accomplished.

It was half past 11, he was pacing all over his room, it was raining heavily outside. She hadn't returned yet, he was hell worried and confused on the other hand. He was angry at her for being so irresponsibly late and angry at himself for being so worried for her.

The doorbell rang, bringing him out of his thoughts. He rushed to open the door half expecting it to be her, instead he found a worried mihika crying.

She sobbed indicating violently at her phone "akka... that Subbu..."

He was suddenly very afraid of what Mihika would say next.

"He ...he"

"He what Mihika?" he asked urgently, half shouting at her

"he left her in the middle of the road" she said in between sobs "I don't know what happened between them but he left her and drove away"

He cursed out loud

"She walked till the highway, network nei tha, she called me as soon as she could, she's alone there, I don't know..."

"Don't worry, I'll go bring her, nothing will happen to her, do you understand?" he turned to bring his car keys "Give me the exact location"

He made his way to his car amidst Mihika's sobs, she wanted to accompany him but he reasoned that Ruhi would be alone and Mihika must look after her.

He drove wildly for half an hour before he could locate something in white at a distance. She was sitting under a tree, trying to shield herself from the storm and rain, sobbing continuously.

He quickly stopped his car and rushed to her. She was shocked at the sudden flow of light in the darkness but relaxed as she saw him rushing towards her. She got up and hugged him as soon as he reached her. He was so relieved to have finally found her safe that he hugged her back instantly. She was visibly shaking with fear and sobbing in his chest. He ran his hand up and down her back trying to calm her down

"Shhh... its fine. I'm here" He consoled her "I'm here, you are fine, its going to be ok" he seemed to be consoling himself too.

He let her cry her fear out as long as she wanted. When her sobs subsided, he softly said

"Ishita, ghar chalein?"

She slowly raised her head from his chest and looked at him.
