Chapter 5
He was heading to the conference room for the meeting when his cell phone rang and he stopped on his way seeing the caller, a good husband must always tend to his wife first. Always.
"Be quick, I have to attend a meeting."
"Red or purple?"
"Blue."
"Chooridar or lehngaa?"
"Sari."
"Updo or braids?"
"Open hair."
"You may go now. Love.." And she hung up on that last thought , on purpose. She was a quick learner who knew how to get even with her husband. And just as she expected, he called her back in the next breath.
"You were saying?"
"I'm done, didn't you have a meeting?"
"This is so not over yet, wife!"
And who knew better than her, it had really just begun. Their rendezvous. She smiled when he hung up abruptly. She took great care in picking out her attire and accessories to please the one person whose opinion mattered most to her, one whose existence mattered more than any one else. It had only been hours since he left for his workplace but she was already missing him. When her daughter came back from school, she quickly fed her and got the stuff to leave for parlpur with the bride. Being an active participant from both sides, she had a bundle of responsibilities on her and she couldn't let any one down.
Blame it on those responsibilities or the trepedition of the event that follow the wedding that lay ahead of her had made her more agitated than the bride. On their way back and forth to the parlor, she kept calling mihir to coordinate for the photoshoot but he seemed to be too occupied in the preparations.
She was getting his sherwani from the closet when he entered with his jacket in his hands saying "if you think the whole world is coming to look at you then you are probably wrong. You have had your turn, you know."
She closed the door of the cupboard then and he stood rooted, out of all the times he had expected her to listen to his opinion today he certainly didn't expect the sight that he beheld in front of him now. She looked eatherel in shaded navy blue sari and since he couldn't find any appropriate adjective to describe her, he chose another route which came in handy for Mr. Bhalla all the time.
He squinted his eyes and remarked "you tied your hair!"
"Out of all the things, you noticed this one! Besides its not completely tied. Its half tied." And she turned around to close the door. He took a sharp breath in. She was wearing a back less blouse and her hair was tied up in curls on one side, leaving her back bare.
"Are you trying to push me to new heights of self control?" Damn, but he sounded serious now.
"Certainly not Mr. Raman. I was just following your lead." When he raised an eye brow to know further, she continued "its give and take, isn't it?"
"Which attribute are you restoring yourself to? Are you giving or taking here?"
She had the most innocent look when she neared him "I'd like myself to be known for my generous nature." She thrust his clothes in his arms and winked before she left.
When she reached the threshold of their room, she turned around and said solemnly "one more thing, there is only one person who is my entire world, I hope you know it by now."
What was she at? Just when he thought he was getting the hang if it, she takes a new turn and changes the whole equation and what's worst is he couldn't decide how he liked her. The saucy way she preasents herself or the shy wife who doesn't seem to have any idea what she is to him. He was lost in his thoughts when his daughter came bouncing in and asked him to be ready. He thought he ought to get even at this new game but her last remark kept running in his mind and he felt proud to be her husband, he knew she had gone through all the trouble to please him and he, he didn't even compliment her so he decided to gave in now.
Every one had gathered at the hall by now, eager to welcome the groom and his family. Ishita and Raman had arrived early too to welcome the guests and while she was looking after them her cell phone beeped and there was a text message with three words in it.
