Honestly in the situation Mihir is in he was bound to be slapped and in fact beaten to a pulp - he decided to finally man up at the last minute - which was bound to have its repercussions.

If not Raman, Tandon would have done the honors, I guess Raman stepped in because he knew ultimately Mihir considers him akin to a father figure, so if he is the one who slaps him around Mihir would finally speak his heart out to him and forget the whole ehsaan thing and also, in the end it would not be as much insulting to Mihir, compared to being slapped by Tandon.

Raman slapping Mihir wouldnt matter to even Mihir much, but letting Tandon do so would also hurt Raman, because he cannot let anyone ever hurt Mihir no matter what. So he is being the bad cop here so to speak - like how sometimes you have a strict parent and the other who is a little easy-going, both have their own ways but ultimately they only want the best for you and look out for you the best they can. 😳
