honey is totally not allowed to give in newborn coz of the risk of bacteria causing botulismbeing transferred to the newborn...not even a pinch or touch by fingertip as suggested by elders in the family...i applaud the TM for making this post...

"Infant botulism results from the ingestion of the C. botulinum spores, and subsequent colonization of the small intestine. The infant gut may be colonized when the composition of the intestinal microflora (normal flora) is insufficient to competitively inhibit the growth of C. botulinum and levels of bile acids (which normally inhibit clostridial growth) are lower than later in life."
Yes honey is not fed. Key is ingestion of the the bacteria. Skin is a thick barrier that prevents bacteria from entering into the blood stream. If bacteria is detected citing to have entered through skin then it's only possible if there is a lesion or slight puncture. Honey or sugar is therefore NOT allowed to be swallowed by the babies and instantly wiped off once placed on the skin.

Honey is not given under one year .but at the time of birth it's ritual in many culture but it's amount is not even a drop so it's not harmful .
Information for Muslim culture
Tahneek is the practice of chewing date and applying a part of the chewed portion to the palate of the child so that it goes down the child's mouth easily. If date is unavailable, one may apply any thing sweet, like sugar-candy, honey or juice, to the child's palate. Thereby, the sunnah is fulfilled. The veins and the muscles are strengthened. The dental palate, the jaws and the mouth are made active. As a result, it is easy for the child to suck milk from the breast of its mother. A pious and God-fearing scholar or a venerable saint may be invited to do Tahneek. Tahneek is mustahib. Sayyidna Abu Musa said, "When my son was born, I brought him to the Noble Prophet, (Sallallaho alaihe Wasallam) who named him Ibrahim and performed his Tahneek with date, blessed him and then returned him to me''(Bukhari and Muslim) Sayyidna Anas carried the new born son of Sayyidna Abu Talhah to the Noble Prophet.(Sallallaho alaihe Wasallam) chewed a date and gave some of it in the mouth of the child, carried out Tahneek, and named the child, Abdullah (Bukhari and Muslim

I am so glad you made this post. 👏 I was actually thinking of making a similar one. Forget what people generally say, mother's milk is sufficient for the baby in the first 6 months. You don't even need to give water. All this honey, sugar water, prelacteal feeds they are called, could actually harm the baby.

it is not a recommended practice by the physicians..ofcourse it is upto the patients to agree to it or not...
all the latest n old guidelines mention the same...not only that, in practice also, we advise the same to all new mothers,,,,

I'm a doctor, so i can say for sure that medically it's not appreciated if parents give honey to infants =)
I wonder why they showed as such in the serial... Isn't the main lead playing the character of a doctor =S
