Even this is very dangerous . Infants don't have any immunity . This infant had nothing else in this system . Just born . Many times infants have difficulty with mothers milk . honey to bohot door ki bat hei .

People need to be careful and not follow TV or old rituals with blind faith . I have seen lots if problems .

I don't think it's dangerous. It's a custom Indians have been following for so long and television is a reflection of the society we live in. People follow this tradition and that is why they showed it. And there is this belief that whoever gives the honey to the baby, the baby imbibes his/her traits.

for the 1st 3-5 months of baby's life they should not be given anything except mother's milk. not even water.. for special cases there are special baby food which should be given only after doctor's consult.
having said that, i believe this ritual is very old and in some cases i have seen that they just make a tikka of honey and not touch baby's mouth.

But yes, People should not ape without knowing the implication.

U should be wise and not follow something just b'coz of tradition. If u analyse it wat must be the thought wen they give honey? They intend that it licks and the first thing it eats is sweet/nutritious occording to them. Defenitly if it is applied externely and wiped off no harm unless the skin reacts.Otherwise anything other than mother's milk is harmful.

I haven't heard of honey. But I know on the namakarana day (10th or 12th day) the baby is touched with sugar water as part of the ritual. It's a teeny drop and instantly rubbed of before the baby licks his/her lips. No harm is done.
Sweet feeding ritual is an age old ritual and no child was harmed in the process. It's the serial copying those rituals followed by the society. I am sure nobody would dare to take chances with a new born and literally feed honey by following a serial with no medical knowledge. Elders in the family will surely warn on how to "feed" the honey or sugar water so that the baby is not harmed in any way.
If at all the baby reacts even to a tiny touch of honey or sugar water, then it's strictly individual allergic reaction.
