I like to think that I am a very understanding person. I can empathize when the situation arises. However, I have recently found myself annoyed by Thakur's pride and his "I am still the great Thakur!" mantra.
I understand that this man has been stripped of not only his ancestral home but also his identity, perhaps even his self-perceived integrity. His obnoxious nature and pomposity rise from that loss and he is not able to control his anger.
What angered me was when he came in to SB house and told Jagmohan and Karan that their father and grandfather, respectively, was a lowly driver, his servant. It was really callous and fanned the flames even further. I don't care whether the prasad (drink) had anything to do with it, because these feelings were always inside him, and he stated these things even when he was sober.
All said, Thakur is, dare I say it, a jerk. He does not deserve Karan's or anyone's respect. Respect is earned, not attached to a house. Thakur is a vindictive, old-world guy who cannot handle his present and his insignificance. And I wouldn't be surprised if he was somewhat like this before this whole SB thing. He needs to learn some humility, bravery, and grace. It seems everybody else in his family has it, but him.
He's also a tyrant to his family.😡
