CB was the first adult's book that I read. Before that I was still reading Enid Blyton's works. So, it took me some time to realise what trash I was reading. Even so, by the time I was on his third book, I knew it's not working for me anymore, and that I need to find something new.

And my memories of watching the movies were pretty vague. I have to give one thing to Rowling though. The books are so detailed, so immersive that it's difficult to dislike the books while you're reading it. But once you remove yourself a little, all the plot holes, the problematic aspects just become apparent. Also, my hatred for the books are mounting with every new tidbit she reveals on Twitter, and those cash grab ke naam pe movies she has released.

I haven't watched the movie. Maybe I'll give it a shot.

I was 20 when I read HP and I thought I was lucky too because if I had read it as a kid, I would've totally missed the sarcasms and the digs at our real world. I enjoyed those immensely.

I agree, there certainly are loopholes. I mean you take on quantum realm, you're bound to mess something up. And she did it without putting much thought into it. I only come across one of her twitter comments once in a while (I think I have only read one or two). That's not going to diminish my love for the characters and their dynamics that I've adored for so long.

But I only consider the original seven books as the HP series. Not the Fantastic Beast series and definitely not that absolute TRASH called the Cursed Child.

While I absolutely hate what JKR came up with, I have read a few fanfics over the years that were just immaculate. I feel like fanfics have really helped in sustaining the hype that HP series gets.

I too loved the first too books by Amish. But I hated, hated the third book in Shiva trilogy. And Ram Chandra series toh I haven't read.

If you know nothing about the Minotaur lore, or like the Minotaur lore as it is, you can give it a go I guess. But I must warn you ki you may find Ariadne so frustrating passive, you'd want to get inside the book and get her to do something.

Miller ke works toh 1000 times better hai iss book se. There's another Greek myth retelling that has been released recently. Daughter of Sparta, I think it's called. I wonder if that book is any good 🤔🤔

Do you mean you were obsessed with the fanfics and not with the books? You're right about FFs keeping the hype up. Unlike many authors, JKR encouraged such writers, which I think, was a fantastic business move.

I didn't hate any of his books, but I am really put off when he starts on one of his ramblings. I can't stand too much philosophy. That's what made the third book in the Shiva Trilogy so long and dragged out. It could easily have been 150 pages shorter. It would've made the book much more interesting to read.

I only know the little we hear al the tine about the Minotaur lore. That's why this book interested me. I was hoping it was something like Circe where a we get a closer look at a less explored character.

I had never heard of Daughters of Sparta. Will see if it looks interesting.

The characterization and narrative was very interesting! The way relationships have been developed are heartwarming. 😳

Not unpopular, Neha. I liked it well enough while reading. As you said the second and third books were much better. Specially the third. And I know for sure that I'm going to read the rest of the books when they come out. But here's the problem. The first book was about Ram and he was so passive and boring. I just wanted him to do something but throughout the book, he merely existed. Sita's character was lively and I liked it so much but the story! It was so repetitive, with most of the book seeming to have been copy-pasted from the first. The third one was the best imo. It was a fresh view of Ravan, one of the characters in Ramayan that has always interested me, and because his life intersects with that of Ram and Sita much later in his life, it also didn't feel repetitive.

Do you like Mythology or Mythological fiction in general, or was it just this one series? Most people I know find it boring or difficult.

Most of the times, its very hard for me to understand what the book offers actually after completing the first chapter of a book, it needs a lot of will power to keep on reading past that and after four to five chapters you actually started knowing whether you are liking the story or not.

Happens with me when reading most books. Happened with HP too. 😆

Yeah it doesnt. Unless it involves a love story like twilight😆

It's like me hoping to find a mystery before taking a deep breath and plunging into a romance novel.😆

HP involves a few love stories but they're mostly side stories.

P.S. How was Twilight? The reviews are very discouraging.

Romance with mysteri in it is the best If you want to read one, check out The Bribe by Willa Nash

I read Twilight when I was a teen and it was one of my first books/series so I really enjoyed it. But now after reading more books, it is definitely overrated and not to say very badly written just like 50 shades

The Vampire Diaries is better

I loved Sita and Raavan.. both books were amazing!

Mythology and Mytho fiction is one of my favourite genres.. I love crime fiction as well. I have a long list of TBR with more Mytho fiction! 😳

But yeah I am curious why the book is so popular, and ill only know after reading it maybe!

Yeah what I like about Harry Potter Books is that the book offers much more other than magic. You should at least read beyond the troll chapter of Book 1 and then decide. The character dynamics and the bondings are one of the best things in HP books and whole book is written through Harry's pov and I always find Harry's character just so relatable (keeping aside all wizard stuffs).
