Part 2 guys! sorry for the long delay :(
PART 2
"Sorry ma'am, No degree...no job" said the woman as she went back to her work.
Sonia let out a tired sigh. No matter where she went, all replies were exactly the same. 'No degree = No job'. She had now begun to realize the importance of that one small paper. That paper was everything. People insantly considered you to be credible if you have a degree, and without it, you're nothing, even if you're intristic talent is immense.
She slowly nodded, got up and exited the office. She walked into the bustling city. Everyone seemed to be busy. Traffic lights changed every 1 minute, giving way to a fresh torrent of traffic, it sweeped across the roads like a huge wave. Everyone seemed to have a purpose, except her. Except Sonia.
It had been 3 days since she confidently accepted Rahul's challenge, but after 3 days of continuous efforts but no result, she was beginning to lose hope. A sudden wave of anger went through her mind. Anger towards her parents.
*Flashback*
"But Papa-"
"I don't want to hear a thing! My decision is final. You're not going to college. Who do you think will pay the fees? Besides, what will you do with the degree ? You have to get married and settle down as a housewife anyway" he said disdainfully. He was visibly worked up, and did not want to have a conversation on this topic anymore.
Sonia fell silent. She didn't know what to say to him now. It had been a week since she had been trying to persuade her father to let her go to college, hoping that his mind would change someday. But all her attempts were in vain. He did not want to change his decision. And her mother wasn't helping either, she seemed to be convinced with her father's decision. and why would she not ? thought Sonia, she herself is a spineless woman..She tried to imagine herself as someone like her mother, and shuddered at the thought. She wanted to be something, wanted to have an identity. But at the moment, it seemed like a faraway fantasy.
She hung her head in disappointment and walked out of the room. Agreed, they weren't so rich, but they weren't so poor either. She wasn't demanding to go to some expensive college, but a college whose fees she knew was within their affluence. Sonia, at 17, was an extremely smart girl. She was quick with words, and wit was her best friend. She was not an exotic beauty, but she had a classic face which radiated confidence.
Sitting down on her bed, she decided there was nothing else she could do. Apart from one thing. Apart from the hardest thing, but the only solution - Running away.
*Flashback ends*
Sonia was jolted back to reality by the loud honk of the car horn. She glanced at the traffic light and saw that it was green. She had slipped into a trance, without noticing when the light turned green. She snuck her head out through her car window and made an apologetic gesture to the car honking continuously behind her. Getting the car into the second gear, she pressed down on the accelerator and brought the car into motion.

"Can you help me Aditi ?" enquired Sonia hopefully as she spoke into the phone. She was in her house, now desperately in the need for a job. Only 3 days were left. Aditi was her friend from school. She didn't know what Sonia did for a living and she didn't ask, it was something sonia really appreciated. Aditi worked in a call center, and had done quite well for herself.
"Well..let's see. The problem here is that you don't have a degree. And even call centres don't employ people who are not even graduates, no matter how 'liberal' they publicize themselves to be" she said. Aditi had always been a straightforward person, and this attitude often got her in trouble.
Sonia sighed, apparently pissed off because she had heard that sentence too many times, "I know that Aditi. That's why I need your help. Kuchh kar na yaar, please. I speak good english, perhaps you could get me a job in your call centre" she said, expectedly.
Aditi seemed to be considering the possibility on the other end. Finally, after few seconds she spoke, "Do one thing - Come to my call centre at 8 am tomorrow morning, during my shift hours. I'll arrange your meeting with our CEO. Hopefully he'll help you out'
Sonia smiled gleefully, "Thanks yaar! Thanks a ton. I'm really grateful"
"Yeah..yeah..whatever. Just be there, ok?" Aditi replied, sonia deduced that even she was smiling at her childlike response on the other end. She thanked her once again and disconnected the line.
Amidst her excitement, Sonia didn't realize that she had just walked into a trap. A trap constructed by someone very close to her.
