Forty-five minutes later, the bell rang. Nervously, she opened the door. He was just standing there, with a huge grin on his face, holding the food. They just looked at each other for a bit, but then she started to feel uncomfortable and asked him to come in.
"Nice place," he said as he was looking around the apartment. "Do you live by yourself?"
"Of course not, my roommate went out, she'll be back soon." She felt bad about lying to him, but she didn't want him to stay too long, just the thought of him being at her house scared her. Her roommate was out of town for the weekend.
Sensing her uncomfortableness, he asked how she was feeling now and she said she is feeling a little better.
"You don't look so good. Why did you get out of bed?"
"Because."
"Because...?"
"I don't know, I don't like being in bed too late."
He had figured out that she got out of bed because he was coming over, but didn't say anything. "Ok, well. Here's some food, eat it, ok?"
"You didn't have to do that.."
"I didn't, but I did anyways. Eat, then get some rest and I will call you later to check on you."
"You're not staying?" shocked at her own self for asking that, she looked down, embarrassed.
He smiled, "no, I can't stay. I'll be covering your shift at work and told them to just deal with it for now."
"Oh, ok. Well, thank you. I really appreciate it."
"Anytime. Let me know if you need anything. Here's my number." He wrote down his number on a piece of paper and left it at her table. "Ok, I'll see you later then."
"Alright, bye..thank you, once again."
"No thank yous and sorrys in friendship."
She smiled and said ok. After walking him out the door, she came back to sit at the couch and started eating. "Weird," she thought, "I wasn't hungry earlier. I was so wrong, he's such a nice guy.. and now he's my friend..."
Meera is not one of those people who make friends easily so it surprised her that she considered him a friend, but happy nonetheless, he was very sweet towards her. She ate the food, watched tv an fell asleep while watching it. A few hours later, her phone rang; expecting Jai to call, she didn't even look at the number and answered it with an enthusiastic "hey!" Her mom was on the line, "hey honey, how are you? You definitely sound excited."
"OH, MOM, no, not excited. I was sick earlier, but I feel a lot better now."
"You're unwell? Why didn't you tell me earlier? We could've come over."
"No, it's ok. I'm fine now, actually. I am still coming over tomorrow."
"Are you sure you'll be ok to drive? Maybe you should just rest tomorrow."
"No, mom. I'm totally fine. I'll leave around 10 a.m and be there by 1."
"Ok.. see you tomorrow then."
"Bye, mom."
It was 5 p.m., he should be out of work by now. She decided to clean up her room. After putting some nice music on, she went to work. She likes cleaning while listening to music. It makes her feel calm. After cleaning up, she was wondering about why he hadn't called yet so she decided she should call him. Just so he knows that she's much better now and thank him for everything. "That is justified, right?"
