Wow, the pupils here swear at the teachers, fight with them, and occasionally make them cry.

This kind of scenes are seen very very rarely in college. But in school? Even the worst of trouble makers are generally respectful toward teachers.

The position of a Guru is a highly respected one. As Harsha said if a teacher says that sun rises in the west then that would not be challenged.

Yes, in school. Children as young as seven misbehave here. Thirteen and over directly disobey teachers. One of my teenage cousins made a supply (stand-in) teacher cry.

I know the western countries are rather disrespectful towards their elders and unfortunately this attitude can be seen amongst youngsters in India as well.
I firmly believe that humility is the only prerequisite to knowledge.
This "I know everything" attitude will last only until life fu*ks you.
Then when you finally hit the ground, you don't have anyone supporting you. Because by then you yourself would have chased everyone away with your so called "cool" attitude.

Raise your concern, not your voice. I believe in that.
One can argue with people and still be respectful.
We Indians have a lot to learn from the western countries, but I do wish we do not end up losing our values in that process.

Yes when I was kid, a stern glance from my teacher would suffice. Now a days the kids have the audacity to say no right in your face.

Like the other day, a kid was misbehaving during our workshop. So our sir told him to get up and sit at the back. He looked him in the eye and said NO. Like a straight no. No matter what we said the boy would simply not move from his place and when we tried to talk to his mother, she said yeah well he is a bit stubborn. But its a good thing, she said. At least he knows how to say no.😕

This semester, I teach at an MBA University. I usually do corporate, but I took up teaching at the University as an exception.
The students there won't call me by my name. Even if I insist and I am only 4 years older than them!
The couldn't care less for learning the language as they are forced to learn German.
But still, they are super respectful.
I don't remember being that respectful towards my own teachers, even the very old ones 🤣
So I can't really say that things are changing.
Or maybe I am a "special case" because I am a visiting professor. Or maybe they really like me 🤣
I'll choose to believe the latter 😆

Well, look where this conversation has come to!
All because I was too sleepy and typed Punjabi instead of Hindus 🤣

That's the thing. They are all from our generation. The current generation is extremely patchy. I mean on one we have students who are extremely respectful and on the other side we have kids like that boy...

OH MY GOD!!!!!

Just look at me. I am talking like 80 year old lady. Talk about generation gap!!!!😲
