This is the gist - The plot revolves Amba and her third daughter, Manpreet. Amba's husband was the head of their clan - the Pawaniyas. Amba already had two daughters, and when she was pregnant with the third child, her husband was killed in a fight with a rival clan - the Bajwas. Amba's mother-in-law warns her that if the third child is a girl, the baby will be thrown out of the house/killed. So Amba asks the midwife to lie and announce that a son was born. The child is named Manpreet and is named the next head of their clan. Amba's parents are dead but she has a brother and he is her biggest support. He helps her hide the fact that Manu is a girl. Amba raises Manu as a boy, and doesn't let anyone come near the child to stop the truth from coming out. Manu believes she is a boy and accepts everything said by her mother. But now she has begun going to school and is starting to question the restrictions imposed by her mother.
