Film stars making TV debuts as anchors and hosts is not big news anymore. But when it's the sexy Urmila Matondkar, it's definitely news. She will be hosting Sony's new music reality show, Waar Parriwar. Excerpts from our chat with the actress on the sets of the show:

How did you get to host this show? Did Gajendrra Siingh approach you or Sony?

Sony told me that on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, I was the most complimented judge. My fans told me that I didn't simply sit in the centre (between two other judges) on the show, but also balanced the whole show. So, Sony approached me for Waar Parriwar.

What is it about the show that excited you?

I have enjoyed music since I can remember. Right from classical to rock, jazz and blues, I listen to and appreciate all kinds of music. I was also excited because Waar Parriwar is directed by Gajendrra Siingh who's given us so many great reality shows. These are learned families and it will be great to do the show.

How is hosting different from judging?

In Jhalak, it was a very delicate situation. I had to judge my colleagues, some of them of the same age as me. I couldn't be too harsh neither could I be too candy flossy and give them diabetes (laughs). In Waar Parriwar, I hope to enjoy holding the show.

How confident are you as an anchor for this kind of a show?

The best part about hosting a reality show is to be able to communicate and build up a rapport with people. I've been doing it and hence have reached a certain level (in films), beginning as a child actor. So, I definitely have a knack for it. Of course, hosting is a much bigger responsibility...taking the entire show on your shoulders and being able to deliver it.

Talking of child actors, what do you think of Darsheel Safary demanding hefty sums and asking for best actor awards?

Well, no harm in it as long as his parents keep them grounded. I think Darsheel was fantastic but I also think he was very well cast. Credit goes to Aamir for having helped him. But yes, the child is the soul of the movie.

Did your parents do the same to you?

My parents kept my feet firmly on the ground.

What do you think of your co-actors from Bollywood hosting shows on TV?

Everybody's doing his or her own thing – each show's concept is different and everyone's personality is different. So, everyone has found what they like to do.

Are reality shows a good way to increase your fan base? Did it happen after Jhalak?

(Visibly irritated) I didn't do it for that. I do what I like to do. I didn't choose films for that (fan base) either.
