LUCKNOW: Countering the Samajwadi Party advertisement featuring mega star Amitabh Bachchan talking about the low crime graph in Uttar Pradesh, TV actor and BJP leader Smriti Irani today said the true picture of the state was reflected in the serial killings of children in Nithari.
"It does not appear after the Nithari killings that crime in UP is less," Irani told reporters here.
Irani also said that Uttar Pradesh needed a Chief Minister like Gujarat's Narendra Modi, a senior leader of the party.
Asked whether she would have agreed to appear in such an advertisement for money, the actress of 'Kyon ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' fame said that she would never agree to feature in certain commercials like those promoting tobacco products.
Irani, however, refused categorically to say whether Bachchan should not have appeared in the commercial.
Observing that UP lagged behind in development owing to lack of will on the part of the SP government and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, she said the BJP was harping on development issues in its poll campaigns.
"UP needs a chief minister like Narendra Modi and Kalyan Singh who have all the qualities," Irani said.
On the Ram temple issue, she said it was not a political issue but a cultural one and was associated with the faith and belief of the people.
