Hello all,
I am very new to both Vanshaj and this platform, so please forgive any mistakes related to my post.
That said, I live and breathe Mahabharat, thus was naturally drawn to this show (though a bit late).
I noticed some discussions on here about which of the show’s characters embody which of the story’s and just want to share my thoughts about Neil and Yuvika in particular:
Neil - Draupadi, Yuvika - Yudhishtir/Arjun
My reasoning:
Yuvika is pretty obvious, but I see Neil as Draupadi because 1) he strongly dislikes the Mahajans, who have been unjust to him, 2) he has a temper, but it isn’t misused, 3) he’s Yuvika’s love interest AND a source of light/support/motivation for her in a quite intimate way, 4) he has used fire metaphors on several occasions, 5) he was made to grow up too fast because of family reasons, and so on.
I personally don’t see Neil’s character traits (or his chemistry with the other characters) correlate with Krishna as much as they do with Draupadi…
After all, Draupadi did save the Pandavas! She is often not given any/enough credit for that.
What do you all think? Feel free to disagree (and discuss further).
UPDATE:
After discussing with you and watching more of the show, I’ve started to warm up to this idea of Neil as a combination of Draupadi/Krishna.
I can see more of Krishna’s teaching style in him.
It is difficult for me to digest Bhoomi being Draupadi at all, because a lot of her advice to Yuvika is about stepping back/away from the empire. (Kunti did ask questions, too - to address that point.)
Also, when I talk about how Neil’s anger reminds me of Draupadi’s, I mean the type of anger, not its frequency:
Krishna did get angry in some instances of the epic (Shishupal’s death, post-VH, during the peace talks, etc.), but his anger was chilling - its calmness made it scary.
Draupadi’s anger was scary in a different way, in that it was burning - open and unfiltered.
Both knew when to use their anger, like how Neil is not always angry. But when Neil IS angry, I see that unfiltered anger.
Overall, Neil is more emotionally expressive than Krishna, and this is a vital point of comparison when assigning a character!! Neil is playful like Krishna, but often irritable in his playfulness (unlike Krishna).
I realize no character is supposed to be exactly like the epic’s in this show, yet Krishna’s emotional stability is so central to his character - Neil can’t be only Krishna imo; his emotional core is more like Draupadi’s.
The love story does have some parallels for me as well. Yuvika-Neil’s relationship could be considered scandalous (Vidur lol), like that of another hexagon we know. :)))
We really just find what we seek, don’t we?
