Neil-Yuvika: My Understanding

Hello all,

I am very new to both Vanshaj and this platform, so please forgive any mistakes related to my post.

That said, I live and breathe Mahabharat, thus was naturally drawn to this show (though a bit late).

I noticed some discussions on here about which of the show’s characters embody which of the story’s and just want to share my thoughts about Neil and Yuvika in particular:

Neil - Draupadi, Yuvika - Yudhishtir/Arjun

My reasoning:

Yuvika is pretty obvious, but I see Neil as Draupadi because 1) he strongly dislikes the Mahajans, who have been unjust to him, 2) he has a temper, but it isn’t misused, 3) he’s Yuvika’s love interest AND a source of light/support/motivation for her in a quite intimate way, 4) he has used fire metaphors on several occasions, 5) he was made to grow up too fast because of family reasons, and so on.

I personally don’t see Neil’s character traits (or his chemistry with the other characters) correlate with Krishna as much as they do with Draupadi…

After all, Draupadi did save the Pandavas! She is often not given any/enough credit for that.

What do you all think? Feel free to disagree (and discuss further).

UPDATE:

After discussing with you and watching more of the show, I’ve started to warm up to this idea of Neil as a combination of Draupadi/Krishna.

I can see more of Krishna’s teaching style in him.

It is difficult for me to digest Bhoomi being Draupadi at all, because a lot of her advice to Yuvika is about stepping back/away from the empire. (Kunti did ask questions, too - to address that point.)

Also, when I talk about how Neil’s anger reminds me of Draupadi’s, I mean the type of anger, not its frequency:

Krishna did get angry in some instances of the epic (Shishupal’s death, post-VH, during the peace talks, etc.), but his anger was chilling - its calmness made it scary.

Draupadi’s anger was scary in a different way, in that it was burning - open and unfiltered.

Both knew when to use their anger, like how Neil is not always angry. But when Neil IS angry, I see that unfiltered anger.

Overall, Neil is more emotionally expressive than Krishna, and this is a vital point of comparison when assigning a character!! Neil is playful like Krishna, but often irritable in his playfulness (unlike Krishna).

I realize no character is supposed to be exactly like the epic’s in this show, yet Krishna’s emotional stability is so central to his character - Neil can’t be only Krishna imo; his emotional core is more like Draupadi’s.

The love story does have some parallels for me as well. Yuvika-Neil’s relationship could be considered scandalous (Vidur lol), like that of another hexagon we know. :)))

We really just find what we seek, don’t we?

I feel that Neil is both Krishna and Devika parallel than Draupadi

This show kind of twists with MB parallels like Shobana ( Satyawati) being the mom of Dhanraj and Prem ( Dhiridirastra and Pandu) so i wouldn't put it past the makers to combine 2 character parallels for a single character

What i think Neil has both traits of Krishna and Draupadi.

Krishna as - 1) he is the guiding light of Yuvika ( I don't know if Yuvika understands this or not but Neil is the one and only guide in her current life )

2) you can clearly feel a Krishna aura in Neil .

3) Yuvika understands things very easily when Neil tells her something ( just like Arjuna understood when Krishna taught him something)

And now some unmatched things with Krishna / matches with Draupadi

1) Neil has anger issue, which Krishna didn't has but Draupadi had after all Draupadi's anger was one of the reason for the war

2) Neil hates Mahajans as they have done something bad with him just like Draupadi had with Kauravas

Ooh, I am really interested to know why you think he’s Devika, since we have so little info about her?

I could see Neil as a combination of two Krishnas (Krishna-Draupadi), but Draupadi alone did guide her husbands, too.

Krishna was the biggest influence on Arjun, but even then, Vyas credits Draupadi with liberating her family from darkness.

There’s more to her than anger. 🥲

Honestly, I sometimes think Bhumi is a combination of Kunti and Draupadi. Because Bhumi too is very important to Yuvika, but Yuvika listens to her on and off. Like how Yudhishthir didn't listen to Draupadi during the Dyut Sabha, here Yuvika didn't listen to Bhumi before becoming the chairperson.

Bhumi is fiery and intelligent too. As was Draupadi. But we see that side of Bhumi only when she is faced with a challenge or a threat. She does guide Yuvika many times like Draupadi pointed the way to Pandavas. She is also a source of inspiration for Yuvika like how Draupadi was the driving force to enlighten the fire in Pandavas.

So I think Bhumi's character is a mix of Draupadi and Kunti. I wouldn't use the love interest wala point because it doesn't make sense here. If we go by that, then Dhritarashtra and Shakuni are married smiley36.

Now here's why I think Neil is her Krishna, not in the divine sense but Neil is to Yuvika what Krishna was to Arjun. He has been her true friend, her guide. He has always supported her in her right decisions. He has been with her throughout her investigations but he always let her take the driving seat, other than when she was too overwhelmed, when this happened, he showed her light and got her out of that state. I can draw parallels to how Krishna always let Arjun choose the karma he did, but when Arjun was overwhelmed, Krishna became his light.

Ofcourse, here, I don't mean that Neil is divine and perfect like Lord Krishna. Rather I would draw parallels to the relationship of Krishna and Arjun.

Again, I may be wrong, because I've not read Mahabharat, only watched SP Mahabharat which did have some fallacies with respect to its story.

I would love to hear opinions from you four people on this.

This is definitely an interesting take!

I’m not sure if I necessarily see Bhoomi as Draupadi also, but nice analysis. 😊

My heart still seems to be somewhat set on Neil for this character; I have, however, been giving it more thought and can now view him as a mixture of both Krishna and Krishnaa.

Similar to how you put it, Draupadi was to Yudhishtir as Krishna was to Arjun. So now, I am thinking:

Neil - Draupadi/Krishna, Yuvika - Yudhishtir/Arjun

Especially because I cannot dismiss the touches of Draupadi’s fiery nature within Neil (and love the 6’s bonds too much to ignore her).

Also, I’m a huge fan of Dhritrashtra-Shakuni being married in this… Gandhari deserves the break. 🤣

yeah he is the combination of two 'Krishnas' here .

One extra point in similarities with Krishna - Neil always motivates Yuvika to fight by herself, he never tells Yuvika that " ok sit down , you are a girl , you can't fight , I am fighting the battle for you " just like Krishna motivates Arjun for the war .

And let's come to Draupadi as you have given few similarities of Neil with Draupadi that's why I hadn't written much about similarities of Neil with Draupadi in the my post 😅

Interesting discussions.

For me Yuvika represents a combination of each Pandavas.

Like Yudhisthira she follows her Dharma, lives by her own rules & principles. Filled with empathy & compassion. Very very accommodating, even ok to sit on a normal chair beside Dada Babu.

Like Bheema, she is strong, very strong. Bhima was Vayuputra, just like air Yuvika is also the lifeline for her near ones. Always protecting & saving.

Like Arjun she has the humility, that enquiring mind, curiosity, innocence & the fire..She is idealistic in a non-ideal world.& Fire needs direction, without it it is destructive. That's why she needs Neil's guidance and direction.

Arjuna's questions & Krishna's answers that elevated Mahabharat war from a regular blood bath to a war of Dharma. Similarly Yuvika's confusion & Neil's guidance elevates VANSHAJ.

Like Nakul she is beautiful & knows how to present herself well & the love for animal that she has developedsmiley27

I always thought that Sahadev's intelligence is lacking in her..But makers have shown that despite her naivety & innocence she is intelligent. She knows what to speak when. How to manipulate (not in a bad way)& get her things done. She is intelligent.

As Saumya said, I also see a combination of Kunti & Draupadi. The most powerful moment of Draupadi are those when she asked such poignant questions to people who are in power & nobody had an answer to this!I see it in Bhoomi. How fearlessly she asks right questions to Db! Just like Draupadi she is the wind beneath the Nagars' wing, the blazing flame that fans Yuvika's bravery.

YUVIKA for that matter also has Draupadi's 🔥, her impulsive nature, her empathy for women.

For me Neil is Krishna... Yuvika's best friend, guiding light, biggest strength & that invisible force behind her every success! Remember that episode of Yuvika's kidnapping! YUVIKA fell down while running towards Neil but Neil didn't run to pick her up. He stood there & waited for her to come to him.& even after that he encouraged Yuvika to fight the battle & he was there to support her. That's exactly what Krishna did to Arjun! He made Arjun the best version of himself.

I would like to discuss more !! Please share your opinion.
