The Wedding Hall
Devi stands up, to shower her blessings on the couple alongside Surya
Surya: What was that?
Devi: Something secret between the bride and her bridesmaid
Surya: Ah well, two can play at that game
Surya searches for something to hand to Gautham
Devi: Feel free (smiles)
Surya: You think I can't do it
Devi: Honey, you can do whatever you want. That was our only marriage vow, remember? We both promised that after marriage, we will never hold the other up from chasing their dreams and seeing their hopes become a success.
Surya: And, is there a particular reason why you're reminding me of this?
Devi: Maybe
Surya stares at her, to make her blurt out the information
Devi: Fine, I might have said this to prepare you for a surprise news I am revealing to you later today
Surya: Which is?
Devi: Something secret between a husband and his wife,
Surya again stares at her, hoping she will blurt out the information
Devi: That can only be revealed at the right time
Surya: Is it that big?
Devi: Come on, it's not a long time away. I'll tell you this evening. Besides, it is happy news, you shouldn't be worried.
Surya: I just think you can't have a better place to reveal happy news than a wedding hall.
Devi: I'd rather say it in the comfort of our own home
Surya: It's your choice, I've tried my best.
Devi smiles
Devi: Great, let's get back to the marriage
Surya: It still amazes me, this story.
Devi: Why?
Surya: It's just that Poongodi and Saravannan almost went through what we did. Poongodi had one-sided lovefor Saravannan, at the same time I had something something for you. Then we all went through the magical journey of love together. So deep for us, that we got engaged for twelve days. (smiles) Saravannna broke off their love as you broke off our engagement. We fixed our problems and got married but they split.
Devi: Hmmm
Surya: It's just that we had so many similarities butended up with a totally different outcome. It's so surprising; I think I'm just curious about how it all happened.
Devi: Actually, they broke up on our wedding day.
Devi: I met Saravannan coming as I was talking to Poongodi outside the temple just before our wedding. I told Poongodi to go inside and I had a brief talk with him and he explained everything to me.
March 2013 (flashback) Devi's Wedding Day
Devi: I heard
Saravannan: I was expecting it to happen.
Devi: Well, I don't know how you're supposed to take it.
Saravannan: Anything could happen to me. I forced myself to work in a very dangerous field. The last thing I want is for anyone to be depending on me, someone to worry about me. I put myself in this mess and no one else deserves to suffer from this, especially someone who's as loving and caring as Poongodi.
Devi: So, you thought it's better to give up.
Saravannan: I made a mistake, the biggest mistake of my life. I gave myself in to love her. And when I loved her so much, I only wanted to do what's best for her. Living with me isn't the best thing to do.
Devi: I think you're over thinking this
Saravannnan: I thought just enough. I didn't deliberately think to pick faults with the relationship. I wanted this to work too but it is better if we don't get together.
Devi: I realise what you're saying but there might be a tiny little chance that it might just all work perfectly.
Saravannan: I know it will be torture living as my wife. I'm not prepared to take such a big risk and ruin a special person's life. I've been trying to explain this to her and she finally saw my views. She made a very wise decision today. I want, I need your help. I want you to make sure she never regrets the best decision of her life. She deserves a better life and I will do anything to make sure that she gets it.
Present day
Devi: Oddly, I believed him and thought that it's the right choice. I wanted to support him so I helped him to make sure that Poongodi is past that too. She has been successful so far overcoming all my small challenges. And we come to the present, for my last challenge. I want her to succeed and show me that she's ready for the change. I wish she succeeds today. She deserves this life.
Gautham ties the thali around Poongodi's neck as she continues to grasp her hand tightly.
She closes her eyes to absorb what just happened.
The newly weds are guided to circle the fire three times.
1st round - Poongodi maintains the tight grip.
2nd round - Poongodi maintains the tight grip.
3rd round - Poongodi maintains the tight grip.
Devi rushes to Poongodi as this isn't one of the options. Actually Poongodi only had one option, to happily wed Gautham and completely forget about Saravannan.
Devi opens Poongodi's hand and finds nothing there!
Poongodi smiles a cheeky smile and looks at the fire.
Devi follows her line of sight to watch the fire and the remaining ashes.
Devi is happy that Poongodi has whole-heatedly accepted the change.
All this while, the newly-weds haven't let go of each other's hands.
Both of them continue holding their rights hands very tightly, waiting very eagerly for their new life together.
