Kismat ki dor
9 pm at the gurdwara
He closed his eyes in a silent prayer kneeling in front of the ' Guru Grant Sahib' worshipping His Holy kindness enchanting His name in his broken soul.
" Babaji , i am a bad person. I did wrong to many . I hurt my family. I hurt tejo but believe me it was unintentional. I never wanted to. I was weak in love. That's all. It blinded my clear vision. Now i could see things vividly, but it's too late. Jasmin is that hanging rope bound to hurt my neck for full life. I accept my mistakes , babaji, pls forgive me. I know this birth i can't unite with the woman i deeply love but i beg u babaji pls pls pls make her mine next birth. I surrender my fate in your hands. Pls forgive all my sins. I am a bad human and deserved to be punished'.
He weeped and bowed seeking for forgiveness .
Just then a hand rested on his shoulder. A helper ( sevak) stated calmly
' gurdwara going to close now. Pls proceed for guru ka langgar'.
He nodded and took a leave towards the kitchen side where dinner was served
Seconds later,
He looked at the capati, rice and sabji served on his plate. He didn't have the appetite . The person seated next to him encouraged him to eat his meal
" We can't waste Guru ka langgar'.
He took slow bites. The guy enquired politely while smiling. He was in his mid forties.
" U look disturbed. U can share ur sorrow. It will enlighten ur heart'
He replied sadly
" My sorrow comes from my own deeds. I am an evil person. I did bad karma. I ought to receive punishment'.
The gentleman smiled widely, amused with fateh's words
" We can't decide our punishment. Only He decides by comparing our good versus bad karma. When the good deeds out numbered the bad ones, he lends a helping hand and saves us from our sorrows. That's what we say as the balance sheet of karma".
Fateh was puzzled but nodded politely to thank the stranger for his advice.
The next morning
9am , bedroom, virks residence
He hasn't dressed in the groom attire and looked at his own reflection at the mirror hanging on the wall of the washroom. His eyes were red and swollen. 'That's it. This is the end of my journey of happiness and solace welcoming sorrows and miseries in the name of jasmin sandhu, his ex.
His repentance was of no use as his destiny played the twisted evil game with both siblings. When he was forced to marry the older sister , he pined for the younger. At present , it was vice versa
'tejo' , hearing that name itself made his heart bleed a thousand times penetrated by sharp deep arrows. He was sinking. It was suffocating. It was painful. When u love someone dearly but unwillingly tying a heavenly knot with another was torturous. An unexplainable sorrow
Just then
Sounds of drums could be heard outside his room window. His bride was dancing at the entrance. The evil sister with whom he didn't want to spend his life with. His eyes searched for her. ' tejo' did she attend his wedding??.
Suddenly his eyes caught a distraught gentleman wearing a worn-out peach kurta pyjama holding a bowl in his hand standing in front of virks entrance begging for money. A beggar on his wedding day. No one noticed . Everyone was busy watching the birde's comic moves. Some were entertained, and the others were amused but the families were very much annoyed. Sandhus ashamed with their heads bowed staring at the ground. Virks cursed their fate
Seconds later
He rushed forward towards the backyard so no one could see him giving away some generosity( bakshish) to that standing all alone poor miserable beggar at the gate. He donated 100 rs and said
' sorry baba, itney hi paise hain. Bure din ageye'.
The stranger smiled.
' tera dil saf hain beta. Karmon ka phel tujhey zerur milega'.
As the beggar was about to take leave, suddenly he collapsed on the ground . Fateh immediately held him for a support and he requested.
" Do din sey tabiyat kherab hain. Mera ghar pas mey hain. Chod do gey?". Fateh was puzzled.
Marriage rituals were about to begin soon but looking at the stranger's bad condition, he decided to send him to his home. He would rush back for the marriage. He supported the guy and moved towards the roadside which took a fifteen minutes walk and finally got hold of a richshaw and instructed the rider to fetch the beggar to his home by settling the amount for the journey which was 20rs. He ran as fast as he could to reach home on time for the marriage. He climbed up the pipelines from the backyard towards his window.
A few minutes later , bedroom
He was shocked to see the dulha attire disappeared from his bed. Who took his clothes??
Just then,
He heard mantras going on from the living room. Marriage rituals were executed. Jasmin looked excited What's happening??
Someone took his place as the dulha.
Just then he received a call from the rickshaw wala stating he has sent the beggar to his home safely. Apparently, fateh gave his contact to that guy to make sure all went fine.
The rider complimented
" Sir ji , ap bahut ache ho. Aur ache logon key sath acha hi hota hain".
The line disconnected.
He sank on the marble floor sitting at one corner of his bed , weeping.
The beggar saved him.
Babaji helped him
It is said that the Almighty comes in any form to perform a good deed.
Then he understood and recalled the stranger's words at the gurdwara
His good actions were more than the bad ones. His balance sheet had higher number of good deeds. The Lord blessed him .
The end
