Character Insight of Jasmine

Hi this is my first post on IF and a bit rambling on my part. Please look upon kindly on me. šŸ„ŗā¤ļø

Its interesting to see Jasmine's character. Right from the upbringing, she has been spoilt like anything. It is pretty evident that they never objected to her questionable behaviour in name of playfulness/childishness.

And because Tejo is the one with the duty of being 'responsible' this only pushed her to get protected from everyone without taking any responsibility for her actions.

I also think her obsession of Canada is pretty much result of her family's obsession over the same.

And the unending attention from guys added to her narcissistic and self-centered character. She feels like she is the main character and everyone else is there to aid her in fulfilling her dreams. She can have anyone she wants to.

Its interesting to see her obsession with Fateh as well. While I do think that she liked him in some sense but when her conditioning and obsession of Canada came into conflict, she obviously chose the latter one.

I also think that she loves her sister dearly but when she saw that her trope that 'she can have anyone as long as she desires' is going down the drain because fateh and tejo are now in a relationship where she cannot have fateh, she became obsessed with having him. Pretty sure she will lose interest once she will have him because it's like a toy that a child wants and they do not get.

She was almost sure that fateh would have waited for her and would have tried marrying her once he gets a job in Canada and she still believes that Fateh will leave her sister and come to her because she is the one deserving of all the attention. Since now everyone abhors her for her actions of calling of her marriage, she deep down thinks that once fateh comes to her, everyone will be back to playing their own 'side character' roles - fateh her prince charming (more like slave tbh lol), her sister always shielding her, her parents always loving her etc.

And essentially, she is projecting her frustration of not having fateh on her sister and it's the conflict of emotions again at this point between love for her sister and obsession towards fateh. At one side she cries for her sister's well being but on the other hand blames her for everything.

Also, her blaming others signifies two things: one her using denial as a coping mechanism and second that she needs to blame someone else for her actions that is why she keeps finding instances and people to blame. It is pretty same as she is dependent on someone else for fulfilment of her dreams, she is dependent on others for being responsible of her own actions. Again, because she feels she is the main character.

She will always have answers whenever it hurts her ego and would put up brave front but gets anxious deep inside. She is a character full of conflicting emotions and make her character really interesting.

Hey welcome to IF.

Jasmine is a grey character. She isn't a bad person but has been spoilt by her own family and friends. She is irritating at times.

There are few things I like abt her like her punjabi is too good and she looks really cute using slangs. And her hairstyles are dresses are also beautiful.

I wish she becomes a better person in future and start being mature.

Excellent post.

I have to say that prior to the wedding for me she was a silly airhead she looked good bt I didn't think much of her.

I think the character is a very unlikable one wherein she has allowed her ego and her dreams to trample over others.

I think In her head she was very clear from the start what she wanted from life and how she wanted from life. So u wana hate her bt u can't.

I think the likeability and the essence of the character is gona have alot to do with how the actress playing her goes enacts her. She has a nostril flare problem at the moment and over emphasis when it comes to her eyes in certain scenes. I think if she controls that and acts well she will definitely be a treat to watch especially if they keep her as a grey character and not make her into a Cillian.

Also I think she really does have good chemistry with fateh. Although I totally love tejo and fateh can't but admit that after the wedding they do have very good scenes together.

Thank you, good to be here <3

Indeed she is a grey character, she isn't good or bad and you neither can love her, nor hate her (not sure about this one at this point but I guess this is how this character was written) :D

Haha. not really sure about the actress. I do find her acting lacking at many places myself but it would be hard to imagine someone else at this point of time at least for me. Maybe because she has that typical face and charm of beauties from Punjab side. (I am also from there, I am just praising their beauty, please don't take my words otherwise.) Haha, I know not a good reason but I find her okayish. :D

Welcome!!

Oh I absolutely agree with what you’ve written, I was thinking/feeling the same way. Fateh’s wound is of the heart and while it hurts a lot now with time and distraction(Letting himself MoveOn, surrounding himself with people who actually care about him, etc.) it will heal.

However, Jasmin’s wound is of the ego. With the characteristics that you’ve mentioned and that she’s displayed she’s got quite the ego. And why wouldn’t she-the way she was raised practically coddled not only by her family but especially Tejo her entire life coupled with the attention she’s gotten outside the family she’s always been protected, and desired. She has taken him trying to move on As a rejection which is kind of some thing she’s never truly experienced. Their relationship was always somewhat one-sided with him continuously giving and her taking; it’s not about he still loves me and I still love him. With her ego bruised, it’s about he Worshiped me I was a god to him. And trying to chase/ reinstate the power dynamic of he bows down to me.

I hope they show him learning about how she speaks about him as if he were an object, her ā€œI snap my fingers and you show upā€ mentality is all ego.

Thank you very much! Also, omg impeccably articulated! Completely agree to whatever you said especially "Fateh’s wound is of the heart while Jasmin’s wound is of the ego. " And with "She has taken him trying to move on As a rejection which is kind of some thing she’s never truly experienced." you won my heart. Byeeee. šŸ™ˆ

I don't actually dislike her.

She was very clear on what she wants and informed everyone about it. That's a trait I liked in her. I also liked the fact that she was unwilling to compromise on her dreams no matter how silly I found them.

I do think her family didn't give her a reality check and now it's a bit too late.

For now, she doesn't want to hurt Tejo but she doesn't understand that she will be hurting her sister with her games anyway.

You can do a character insight on Tejo as well.

You guys have analyzed her character so well. I have nothing more to add. I don’t hate her but I don’t like her either.

Same, I don't dislike her either. Rather I find it very humane the way she behaves considering the environment she was brought up in. (Not excusing her behaviour, just maybe, as you mentioned, if only she had got a reality check before.)

And I agree, she doesn't want to hurt Tejo consciously but subconsciously her impulse to soothe her ego is much stronger which inadvertently leads to Tejo getting hurt even if she doesn't want to. 😢

I would love to do character insight of Tejo someday! Thank you for the suggestion šŸ„ŗā¤ļø
