Hello lovely people of the forum! I know FaTejo hasn't officially fallen in love with each other yet and so wrote a fanfic for FaTejo. It's been a while since I've posted a fanfic so I'm kinda nervous. I hope you'll enjoy it! đ
Fateh looked at his wife from across the room. She was dressed in pink, sitting in front of her friend Rahila as she excitedly discussed something. A smile drew across the manâs lips. Tejo and he had come a long way.
Who would have thought that Lafandar and Shadain could fall in love with each other?
He canât tell the exact moment he fell in love with her. Maybe itâs when he thought sheâd be gone forever?
No thatâs not it. He was in love with her way before that.
It started slow, obviously. He and Tejo didnât meet in the most ideal ways or under the most ideal circumstances.
He remembers when she told him the story called The Royal and the Hero for the very first time. The story is basically about this guy who learns the difference between who he loves Vs who he thinks he loves.
Fateh scoffed at it and said âheâs a wimp. Why didnât he fight for Jiya? How could he fall in love with Tara?â
He regretted his words as soon as they left his mouth, but it was too late. He could tell the exact moment he broke her heart.
The smile from her face fell. He instinctively reached out to her and she stepped back. Fateh felt his heart fall to his stomach but he didnât know why. Why would Tejoâs withdrawal have that strong of an effect on him? Granted they were friends. Best friends even but his own reaction to her and his realization about himself confused him.
âI-I didnât mean thatâ he stammered. Why did he stammer? He was only voicing his opinion right?
Tejoâs smile didnât reach her eyes. âItâs alright Fateh. I understand itâs just your opinionâ she said and quickly switched the topic and said âI-I gotta go, I just have too many assignments to mark. Exam season is coming up you knowâ and let out a nervous laugh. âTejo Iâ he started but she cut him off saying âI have to go. Iâll see you later Fatehâ she said and left.
Fateh was left confused that late afternoon. It was autumn and the colours of the leaves were slowly changing. Was his heart changing too?
He was afraid that he didnât know.
Tejo continued to avoid him after that day, or if she did choose to talk it would be just small talks.
The most he managed to get out of her when he apologized again was âitâs ok Fateh. I understand you didnât like the story. You just expressed your opinion and itâs alrightâ Tejo said and gave him a small smile.
Fateh knew that there was a crack in their relationship and he knew he hurt her. She wasnât giving him âthe silent treatment.â She simply kept the interactions to a bare minimum.
Part of him was scared because she wasnât deliberately being quiet, but she was so hurt that she didnât want to be around him anymore because she saw no point in that.
So he texted her and asked if she was upset, again. She replied to him explaining she wasnât mad at him at all. âI promise you Iâm not mad. For the 10th time, you donât need to apologize! I just have a lot on my mind, so you donât need to worryâ she said.
He knew there was more to it than what she said. Fateh knew she didnât want to talk about what was weighing on her mind and so he didnât ask her to share what she felt.
He remembers the day when realization almost hit him. He was at the college to pick up a document and went to the cafeteria to grab something to eat.
âDid you see the new professor?! Heâs so dreamyâ he heard one girl say. âI know! Heâs young tooâ another girl said. The first girl now said âI think he likes Tejo maâam.â
Fateh almost dropped the water bottle he bought. His heart was sinking a little bit now but he quickly tried to shake off the feeling." âI mean I think theyâd make a really cute coupleâ the second girl said.
It hurt. For some reason the thought of her ending up with another man hurt. Fateh said to himself âyou have no right to think like that. Youâre not even in love with her.â Problem was he has started to believe the latter part increasingly less these days.
âI saw them walk together to the office today!â the first girl said. âI need to leaveâ Fateh thought to himself. As he was walking out, he heard one of the girls say âyou know she looked happy.â
His eyes stung but he told himself it was because the samosa was too spicy. Of course, itâs a lie but the thought of finding the truth scared him. He didnât see her for the rest of the day.
About a week later, he was told by Mahi to pick up Tejo, something about recipes and studies, he doesnât remember super clearly. He just wanted to see her. So, he took the chance and left.
He saw Tejo with the professor in question and he felt his heart crack. He wasnât jealous but a deep sense of loss was slowly crawling into his soul and he didnât know why. Just because sheâs with that guy doesnât mean sheâs in love with him right?
Then their eyes met. She tried to give him a polite smile and Fateh could barely manage to smile back. He didnât like that she was with that guy but then he told himself he shouldnât be feeling this way. âIâm just looking out for her, what if the guy is a creep?â He said to himself.
His heart said it was a lie and he was afraid his heart was right.
The ride from college to Fatehâs house was quiet, except for the occasional small talks. They used to be so close and now this is what their relationship had come down to? He offered to drop her off but she mentioned that Mahi already decided sheâd do that. So, he stood at the door waving her goodbye as she hopped on Mahiâs scooter.
That night he couldnât even get an ounce of sleep.
âWhy did Tejo smile at him like thatâ âhas she ever smiled at me like thatâ âwhy does this hurt?â âWhy does the thought of her ending up with someone else breaks my heart?â All of these questions were running through his mind.
He got up. He wanted to see Tejo. He has been wanting to see her every day for a while now. Granted if she says that she doesnât want to see him or needs space, heâll leave.
âMaybe she doesnât want to see meâ he muttered to himself. âand itâs quite okâ he thought. The thought of Tejo with the professor occurred again. He sighed. âMaybe it wouldnât be such a bad thing? She deserves to be happy, afterâ he took a pause, for his throat was closing up. Then he added âafter everything she has been through. Maybe, maybe this guy will genuinely love her? Maybe sheâll love him too.â
He was crying. Fateh wiped his eyes, and it was at that moment it hit him.
He was in love with Tejo and there was no going back.
"That canât be true, can it?â He asked himself. However, it was true. It was very true.
âWhoâs the wimp now?â He bitterly asked himself. He realized that maybe the reason why he hated a fictional character so much is because he reminded Fateh of himself. If anything, Ferdinand was able to admit the truth, something Fateh wasnât able to.
Fateh took a deep breath. Should he tell Tejo how he feels about her? âShe doesnât love you. Why would she? You basically told her thereâs no way you could fall for herâ a little voice told him. Then he told himself âit ok if she doesnât love me back. I just want to see her happy even if it means seeing her with someone else.â
He had truly meant that. âIâll tell her that I love her. Iâll do it tomorrowâ he quietly said. So, Fateh asked her if he could meet her somewhere and they both agreed on a place.
He was nervous which was rather different than how he usually felt around her. His heart didnât really beat super-fast around Tejo.
Instead, he would be at peace; like he was near the sea, being enveloped in its calmness and mystery. Tejo was like the sea - always making him feel that all will be ok and that he was seen for who he is. He felt safe with her.
But now?
Just like Ferdinand, Fateh too confessed to the love of his life with a heart beating increasingly faster against his chest.
âTejo, I just want to preface this by saying, itâs alright if you donât feel the same way about meâ Tejo looked up at him, her beautiful eyes showed confusion.
âI know this will be hard to believe and to be honest, I donât expect you to believe me. I am sorry for hurting you. I promise to do betterâ he said and then added âI really do and it will still apply regardless of how you feel about me. I just want to see you happy even if it meansâ he paused.
He then took a deep breath and said âeven if it means it wonât be with me. I-I love you. I really do. Whether you do or not. Itâs ok. Whoever you share your love with, I promise to stand by you and make sure you get your happiness even if it means letting you go foreverâ
âI love you Tejoâ he said again. âI love you with everything that I have. Iâm sorry if I made you feel that there was no way someone could fall for you. Youâre more than worthy of all the love in this world and only an idiot wouldnât see it. I admit I was that idiot. I was too scared to admit the truth, I was scared to admit how much I love you and you deserve better. Youâre incredibleâ
Fateh knew he was crying. Some might say he was being too much like the heroes from cheesy romantic films but he didnât care.
âIâll be honoured if you give me a chance to show you how much I love you, but if you donât want me to then Iâll respect it. Whatever you decide will be respectedâ he said.
Then Tejoâs eyes started to water. Fateh panicked. He quickly wiped his eyes and asked âare you ok? Did I hurt you?â He asked. Tejo shook her head. âAre you in pain? Do you need to sit down?â He rambled.
Tejo shook her head and smiled through her tears.
âNo. I just wanted to say I love you tooâ she said. âI knowâ Fateh said but then his mind finally caught on to what she was saying and he asked âwait, what?â
Tejo said âI said, I love you too, you big goof.â
Fateh felt his own eyes were slowly watering again. He pulled her into his arms and held her tight. Itâs like he wanted to make sure she was there, and he wasnât dreaming. Tejo hugged him back.
He then picked her up and twirled around. Tejo let out a yelp and then broke into a laugh. Fateh smiled down at her.
âSo filmyâ some would say but neither one of them cared.
Fateh finally felt that his heart was complete. Like it found a piece he didnât even know it was missing. He vowed to show her how much she meant to him, every day for the rest of their lives. He promised to never let her doubt his love for her.
Later, the professor Tejo was seen speaking to turns out to be an admirer of Rahila, Tejoâs friend. The reason he was seen talking to her is because Tejo was a mutual friend of the two. So Tejo was asked to essentially play match-maker for the duo.
Rahila and Rahul, the professor (what a coincidence I know) are now married to each other.
Ironically enough, The Royal and the Hero was now one of Fatehâs favourite stories. Tejo had asked him why he loved that story so much and he said âbecause itâs a reminder that what we often mistake for love isnât actually love at all. True love is beautiful, and it doesnât require you to sacrifice the essence of your being.â He then added âFerdinand finally understood how much Tara meant to him and that the one he truly loved was Tara, after he was able to reflect and face himself.â
âHey, Bhabi is calling for youâ Mahi said and broke his trail of thought. âOh, ok Iâll be right thereâ he said and started to walk towards his wife.
Tejo smiled at him and he grinned at her. Her smile was contagious, and heâd do anything to protect it.
âYesâ he said in a cheery tone. âWhy are you standing way over there? Sit beside meâ she said. He did what she said, and she handed him a piece of the birthday cake on a plate.
âThis is deliciousâ he said, and she smiled proudly at him. âYes, I suggested Rahila should go for this oneâ she said. He chuckled and said âI shouldâve known.â
âHey Tanvi! Come hereâ she called out to someone. A woman walked up to Tejo and the latter said âthis is Fateh Singh Virk, my husband.â
Fateh smiled. He will never get tired of hearing Tejo say that. The happiness in her eyes and the pride she felt at calling him her husband, all shone through.
Itâs been 2 years since they have been together and everyday they fell in love with each other just a bit more.
Tejo loved him. She showed him that every single day. The thought made his swell with the kind of happiness he never knew was possible to feel.
âHi, nice to meet youâ Fateh said and smiled at Tanvi. âTejo always talks about youâ Tanvi started and added âitâs nice to put a face to the name.â Fateh smiled at his wife and she grinned at him.
The rest of the evening was spent getting to know some new faces, trying lots of delicious food and then sharing more stories.
When the day was done, Fateh and Tejo returned to their humble abode to rest.
âI love youâ Tejo said as she looked at him with a soft smile on her face, and to respond Fateh pulled her into his arms before saying âI love you too, my heartâ as he kissed his wife. His promises and love were shared and returned.
The night was peaceful, and it sang the song about two pure souls writing their story of true love.
P.S: Iâll post "The Lafandar and His Shadain" later in the week :)
