Sumo..
🤗.
that's a wonderfully analyzed write up. and delightful perception.
pleasure reading your thoughts.
i totally agree with the inferiority complex part. i for one love vulnerable heroes. my only grouse is.. as K.Kapoor mentioned.. cvs keeping Suraj's POV vague.
Cvs are the ones who created Chakor too. and she is SO crystal clear in her thoughts, actions and words. She LOVES Suraj. what she felt for Vivaan doesn't even come closer to the vicinity of what she feels for Suraj. Suraj for her is above and beyond all. Full Stop.
as clear as been written on a hard rock in bold capital letters in sparkling neon colours.
and then we have Suraj.
there is Suraj who vehemently denies ever loving Imli and then there is Suraj making complete and utter psychotic nuisance of himself over her.
there is a Suraj who says with heartbreaking vulnerability.. kya hum sach mein alag hojayenge? to Chakor.
and then there is Suraj who takes Chakor for granted and acts like a brat.
there is Suraj who roars... Koi Chakor ko haath nahi lagaye. will make you pay Sood Samet for hurting this girl.. and then there is Suraj who doesn't even try to walk the talk.
there is Suraj who runs on bleeding feet to rescue Chakor during Delhi stint and then there is Suraj who sleeps peacefully in the arms of his ex no nevermind Chakor who is all alone and Villains are loose.
there is Suraj who KNOWS how insecure Chakor is when it comes to Imli and then there is Suraj who not only allows Imli to crawl all over him but gamely joins in.
there is Suraj who was blessed with Killer instincts and one who made things happen.
and then there is Suraj who is ... just there.
i get him feeling vulnerable, having low sense of self esteem, feeling that he doesn't deserve Chakor but i don't get him being SO for the lack of better word i will say... Lethargic... about everything. be it love, vengeance and life.
i simply do not get him.
we have been running in circles since time immemorial when it comes to Suraj.
He is father of Imli's bachau. No! he is not.
He loves Imli. No! he doesn't.
He loves Chakor. oh! does he?
He will start trouncing his nemesis. err! when?
if three quarters of our time is spent in finding reasons, justifications, excuses for the actions (or lack of it) of the character and rest of the quarter in making sense of the story.. how are we to enjoy the story and love the character?
you know lot many times i think it would have been kinder to let Suraj remain a villain. be it character, attitude, dialogues, costume and hairstyle and all.. he was at his bloody best there.
and now we have this Suraj.
as if Cvs have no idea what to do with him.
i feel when Cvs created him and chose VJ they had no clear cut idea.
should Suraj turn into a hero and the story will proceed as per their famous swap and love story mantra.
or Should he remain a villain and Chakor sends him to jail or worse and they will go on with their 'social cause' plot.
and hence kept pushing it. be it abusing Chakor, blackmailing, living off her, going as far as near rape. but still people kept rooting for Suraj and Cvs decided to go with the former plot for SuKor was selling like nothing else.
reminds me of Sir. Author Conan Doyle and his creation Sherlock Holmes. when the creation became bigger than the creator he couldn't handle it and hence killed the creation off. but the furor over it was so furious he had to bring back Sherlock in next sequel.
Cvs are facing the same predicament.
their creation has turned more spectacular, more beautiful and more successful than they ever imagined.
and hence they have no idea what to do with him. and are winging it.
it is left to us and our interpretations and imaginations to understand what Suraj is. his thoughts. his actions. his love.
him.
dear Cvs... your creation is here to stay. we haven't given up on him. yet. you still have time to understand him and resurrect him. albeit limited but you still have time.
make it count.
