Why Kasturi?

Firstly, Kasturi didn't mortgage Chakor, it was Bhuvan, he made the choice for both of them right on the spot without thinking and without discussing it with Kasturi. Kasturi was in such shock that it rendered her speechless at what Bhuvan did.

Ishwar doesn't know the full details as to why they mortgage Chakor, all he knows is that she was mortgage. Maybe he should've started from there, asking why they mortgage her.

Even if Ishwar was to help them to pay off their debt Bhaiya ji will know and he will do everything in his power to stop it.

Its not so simple. Its about control that bhaiyaji has to have on this village to control everyone there. They can never leave the village nor will they be able to / allowed to earn enough to return the money. They all are under forced labor with minimal pay which won't be enough to even make their basic needs. Then how will they repay him?

CVs gave good answer thru Ishwar today to your question about returning money. He wants to save not just chakor. His aim is to eradicate this practice of bonded labor for everyone, not just one person or family.
