The Twilight heartthrob - who plays hunky vampire Emmett Cullen - found himself bound to a Twi-hard after an autograph signing and had to call security for help.
"I remember one fan, she asked for an autograph and asked if she could take me home, and I was like, 'Yeah yeah yeah, what's your name?' - she yanks out, and you hear this 'clink, clink, clink', big old handcuffs; I was like, 'Hey!'," he recalled at the film's press conference in London.
The 25-year-old, who reprises his role for Eclipse, the third instalment of the Twilight saga, has also been on the receiving end of more pleasing gestures.
"When I was doing the circuit for New Moon, another fan pulled out these fuzzy handcuffs and then she was like, 'I have something for you' - she undid her jacket and had some nice number on," he said.
"I was like, 'Hey!' but it was really cute. And they are cute - there is no other way to explain this love that they have for this franchise."
