Episode 24

Moksh was in school but his attention was wandering from what the teacher was saying. He began imagining how his little baby brother or sister would look. He hoped he would have a brother too just like his friend Arav. He knew some of his classmates had little sisters and were not too pleased about it.

"Moksh…..Moksh… " Arav murmured in his ears, "teacher tumhe dekh rahi hai, so rahe ho kya?"

"Moksh, you are not paying attention in class, what are you dreaming about?" his teacher asked him sternly.

Moksh stood up and lowered his head, "Sorry teacher."

"It's ok, be attentive or else next time I'll punish you. Sit down now."

During their recess break Moksh and Arav found that their friend Vishal was looking very sad. "Vishal chalo na khelte hai." they called him but he refused. "Kyun nahi aana hai?" Arav questioned him and he replied, "Kal mummy ne mujhe bohot daanta, woh ab sirf nayi baby se pyar karti hai, mujhe pyar nahi karti."

"Are haan Vishal, meri mummy bhi mujhe bohot daanthi hai. Sab mere bhai ke wajah se." Arav also complained to his friends.

"Meri Aai kabhi aisa nahi karegi." Moksh told his friends confidently.

"Tere ghar me baby jaldi aanewala hai na, tab pata chalega tujhe. Jab bhi mummy mere paas baitthi hai, tab baby rone lagti hi, phir mummy mujhe chodkar uske paas chali jaati hai." Vishal told him with a sad face.

"Meri mummy bhi…" Arav added his woes too.

Moksh was confused and his little mind began to think. Pehle toh Vishal aur Arav Kitne khush the ki unke paas baby hai. Ab itne sad kyun hai? Maine Bappa se baby maanga aur unhone diya Lekin ab kya karun? Kya baby aane ke baad, Aai bhi mujhe pyar nahi karegi? Aai aur Baba mujhe bohot daantenge? Unko sirf naya baby pasand hoga kya?

The rest of the day he remained quiet and attentive in class. At the end of school, he saw his mom waiting at the gate for him and they both went home.

As they sat down to eat their snacks and milk, Kalyani found Moksh unusually quiet so she held his chin and asked, "Kya hua Pillu, tu mujhse baat kyun nahi kar ra hai? Hmm.. bol na."

"Aai, mujhe bohot bura lag raha hai, ab mai tumhe hug bhi nahi kar sakta, ye stomach me jo baby hai uske wajah se."

"Bas itni si baat, aao yahan.." she held his fingers and made him come around her from behind. She brought both his little hands around her neck and he automatically bent down, his cheeks touching hers.

"Aage se hug nahi kar sakte to kya, peeche se hug kar lenge hum.. "she kissed him.

Moksh felt a little better and happy that his Aai was not like others but he still wanted to clear his doubts. "Aai, baby aane ke baad kya tum mujhse pyar nahi karogi?"

"Kyun nahi karungi, tu bhi mere baby hai na…"

"Vishal aur Arav ne kaha unki mummy hamesha baby ke paas hi rehti hai aur unko bohot daanthi hai. Kya tum bhi mujhe daantogi?" tears had gathered in his eyes as he looked at her for answers.

Kalyani tightened her grip on his hands, "Pillu, tumhe pata hai na mai aur baba tumhe tabhi daantenge jab tum kuch galat karoge."

Moksh nodded his head and looked at her as she continued, "Aur Pillu, new baby ke paas toh jyada der baitna padega kyunki woh tumhare tarah chal nahi sakta, baat nahi kar sakta. Har cheez roke hi batayega. Use tumhare tarah big boy banne me wakt lagega. Tab tak use meri, tumhari aur Baba ki help ki zaroorat hogi."

"Meri bhi?"

"Haan tumhari bhi, jab mai aur baba apne kaam me busy hai to tumhe usse baat karni hogi, tabhi to tum uske Dada ban sakte ho."

"Kya woh mujhe Dada bulayega? Boy hi hoga na Aai? Vishal ne kaha girl baby bohot roti hai."

"Boy ya girl jo bhi hoga pehle to bohot royega, kyunki woh to hum sab ke tarah baat nahi kar sakta na, isliye hume har cheez ro roke bolega aur hume samajna hoga use kya chahiye, use bhook lagi hai ya usne susu kar diya… "

"Susu….yew… .."Aai !! mai jab baby tha, toh kya mai bhi rota tha?

"Haan bilkul rota tha, susu bhi boohoot karta tha, tab na hum sab ne teri help ki thi, aise… .yew… nai bola…"

"Yew… maine bhi susu ki thi?" Moksh looked shocked.

"Hmm...main na tumhe kal tumhe tumhare baby wale photos dikhati hun."

"Aai, baby aane ke baad mai tumhara favourite nahi rahunga na?" he was still doubtful.

"Mera Pillu toh hamesha mera favourite rahega. Aur new baby toh mere Pillu ka favourite hai na, isliye hum sabka favourite ban jaayega, hai na Pillu? Ab Pillu ke favourite baby ko hum sab milke care karenge, teek hai? Bol, tu bhi help karega na baby ko sambhalne me?"

He kissed his mom, "Haan mai bhi help karunga aur mai na sabse best Dada banunga, Vishal aur Arav se bhi acha wala."

"Ye hui na baat, mera Moksh toh kitna samajdar bacha hai." Both mom and son turned around to see Malhar smiling at them. They had been engrossed in their conversation and had not heard him enter the house. He moved forward, picked up Moksh, making him sit on his shoulder with legs on either side. Soon Moksh's worries were forgotten and he was giggling jubilantly.

Later when Moksh was playing with his toys, Malhar went into the kitchen and put his arms around his wife from behind while she was making tea for him. He placed his chin on her shoulder, "Kalyani, aaj check up kaisa gaya? Sorry mai aaj kaam se atak gaya, nahi aa paya. Doctor ne kya bola?"

"Koi baat nai, Aai ko tho beja tha na aapne. Malharji, aaj na jab doctor scan kar rahi thi, tab baby ne apni mutti kholkar wapas band ki. Kitna cute tha……awww."

"Acha… maine miss kar diya." he said sadly. "Aur kya bola doctor ne? Koi instructions di?"

"Aapko hamesha instructions ke baare me hi padi hai, maza aata hai aapko mujhse woh sab karwane me, hai na?" She pulled his nose.

She rolled her eyes in frustration, "Aaj na mujhe itna gussa aaya Aai pe. Doctor ne mujhe prenatal yoga join karne ka sujaav diya aur Aai ne jaake booking bhi kar di. Ab mujhe roz woh exercises bhi karne padenge."

"Very good, acha hua aaj Aai tumhare saath gayi, meri baat tho kabhi manogi nahi tum. Kisi ka toh maanna pad raha hai tumhe, isi me khush hun." he teased her.

"Aap aur Aai dono maze le rahe hai.. Hunh.. "

"Are ye sab exercises karne se delivery me aasani hogi Kalyani, tumhe karni chahiye."

"Acha… ? Toh ab na roz subah jaldi utkar aap bhi mere saath exercise karenge."

"Kalyani, pehle hi mujhe bohot kam neend milti hai, kyun use haraam karne pe tuli ho tum? Please isme shaamil mat karo na mujhe.."

She didn't give in and now Malhar had one more extra duty of exercising with her in the mornings. Nights were another story as Kalyani's growing belly was putting pressure on her bladder, she had to get up frequently to relieve herself. She couldn't turn sides abruptly and had to get up, sit for a minute before turning. So sleep had really become a luxury which both of them couldn't indulge in.

On a Saturday, Aao Saheb had asked all of them to over for lunch. Pallavi and Anupriya had made all of Kalyani's favourite dishes. After lunch, Moksh went along to play with Goda and Nal while Aao Saheb sat down on her swing facing the rest of them.

"Malhar, ab Kalyani ka saathva mahina shuru ho gaya hai, hum chahte hain ki Godh Bharai ki rasm ki jaye."

Before Malhar could open his mouth, Kalyani answered her, "Bilkul nahi Aao Saheb, agar aas paas le log sab aaye toh woh apna bada sa muh kholkar kuch na kuch kahenge jisse mere Pillu ke dil ko chot pahunchega. Isliye mai ye rasm nahi karwana chahthi."

Aao Saheb was annoyed at her command being disobeyed, "Parmeshwara !!!! Anupriya apni beti ko kuch sikhao. Ye sab rasm isliye kiye jaathe hai taaki jo sthree pehli baar maa banne wali ho, use aur uske hone wale bache ko sabka aashirvaad mile."

"Lekin Aao Saheb, mai pehli baar maa nahi ban rahi, mera pehla bacha Moksh hai." Kalyani further argued with her.

"Hume pata hai Kalyani. Anupriya ! Malhar ! Tum dono ko toh hamari baat samajh me aa rahi hai na. Chup kyun khade ho, kuch toh samjhao iss ladki ko. Agar aaj hamara beta Atul yahan hota, toh woh bhi yehi chahega." she said sternly.

"Nahi Aao Saheb, galat hai aap. Mere Papa meri baat se agree karte."

Malhar's eyes teared up thinking how selfless Kalyani was in her love for Moksh and he made up his mind to make her first pregnancy as special as every woman's would be. He didn't want Aao Saheb and Kalyani to argue further and he cut into their conversation.

"Aao Saheb, aap bilkul teek keh rahi hai, hume ye rasm karna chahiye."

Aao Saheb gave a victorious look at Kalyani while she was annoyed at her husband, "Malharji.. aap mujhe support karne ke bajay Aao Saheb ki baat maan rahe hain?"

"Meri baat puri nahi hui Kalyani."

He looked at Aao Saheb and continued, "Kalyani ki soch bhi galat nahi hai isliye hum ye function simple rakhenge aur sirf unhi logon ko bulayenge jinhe Kalyani bulana chahti ho, jo log Kalyani aur Moksh ke rishte ko ache se jaante ho aur samajthe ho."

"Haan Aao Saheb, Malhar ne bilkul sahi kaha. Aap bhi khush aur Kalyani bhi." Anupriya supported his decision.

Kalyani seemed happy with the idea and did not argue but Aao Saheb was not one who would back down so easily. "Agar tum logon ka yeh vichaar hai toh hum maanthe hai lekin hamari shart ko bhi manna hoga." she said firmly.

"Kaisa shart Aao Saheb?" Anupriya asked.

"Godh bharai ke baad Kalyani ko prasav tak apne maayke me rehna hoga, yaani yahan hamare saath."

This shocked both Kalyani and Malhar and he asked, "Aao Saheb… lekin Moksh ka kya, use Kalyani ke bina rehne ki aadat nahi hai." What he didn't add was that he could also not stay without his Kalyani.

"Are !! toh maine kab kaha ki Moksh ko uske bina rehna hoga? Moksh bhi Kalyani ke saath yahin rahega."

Now Malhar was scratching his head and looked at Kalyani, his eyes telling her, "Kuch karo na..."

Kalyani was enjoying his dilemma, "Main kya karoon?" her eyes teased him.

He gave her an angry look and turned his face away from her towards his Kaka.

Sarthak understood his mind and came up with his best, "Aao Saheb, Kalyani ko apne maayke yani apne maa ke ghar rehna chahiye na? Toh woh hamare ghar mein mere aur Anupriya ke saath rahegi."

Aao Saheb glared at him, "Anupriya ab Rane ban chuki hai."

"Lekin Aao Saheb, Kalyani ki ma toh wahi hai, isliye Kalyani ka uske aai aur baba, yani mere aur Anupriya ke saath rehna hi sahi hoga."

"Aur Aao Saheb, agar raat ko hospital jaana pada toh yahaan Vivek bhau bhi nahi hai. Aapko Aur Pallavi ko pareshani hogi." Anupriya added.

"Hamari har baat ko kaat kar tum sab ne hume ehsaas dila diya ki ab hamari zaroorat nahi hai kisi ko."

"Nahi Aao Saheb, aapka kaha maan rahe hai na hum, rasm bhi karenge aur Kalyani maayke bhi jaayegi. Sirf aapki madad karna chahte the…" Anupriya tried to pacify her.

"Rehne do Anupriya, hum bhi apne pothi ke liye kuch karna chahte hain, isliye ab godh bharai ki rasm Ahilya Niwas me hi hoga. Ab is baat me bhi agar koi pareshani ho toh bata do." she growled.

Malhar held her hand, "Koi pareshani nahi hai Aao Saheb, rasm yahin hoga, iss ghar me."

Back in their own home, Moksh who was unaware of all the conversation between the elders and had a very good time playing with Goda went to sleep.

Kalyani sensed that her sweet hubby was upset and laid down with her head on his lap.

"Kya Malharji, kyun aise muh latkaake baite hain aap?"

"Tumhe nahi pata?"

"Ab mai kya kar sakti hun, saare decisions toh aap sab ne milke li."

"Tum toh badi khush hogi, aai ke ghar jaanewali ho na, mujhe akela chodkar."

"Aapne tab mana kyun nahi kiya? Wahan chup khade the aur ab aapko gussa aa ra hai. Mai bhi toh nahi jaana chahthi."

"Tum bhi mana kar sakti thi na? Chup toh tum bhi thi. At least maine koshish ki."

"Sirf do mahine hi toh rahungi wahan."

"Sirf? Dooo mahine… Kalyani." he dragged his words to indicate how long he felt it was. "Main itne din tum teenon ke bina nahi reh sakta, samaj gayi? Aur mujhe roz meri baby se baat karni hai." His hand stroked her belly.

"Acha sirf baby se baat karni hai? Hunhh." she twisted her lips but then she got emotional, held his chin and asked him, "Aap roz aayenga na mujhse milne? Main bhi aapko dekhe bagair nahi reh sakti."

Her teary eyes made him divert the conversation, "Haan bilkul aur ab iss baat ko chodo. Wakt aane par mai kuch na kuch soch lunga. Kal hi tum list bana lena tum kis kisko bulana chahti ho warna Aao Saheb naraaz ho jayegi."

She nodded her head and slowly got up from his lap. They lay down facing each other, careful not to hurt her tummy, he kissed her lips hungrily and whispered, "So jao ab." She closed her eyes as his arm circled her waist protectively.

***Just a little more patience... Baby will arrive soon.
