"I didnt mean to make you cry" Uma's thumb wiped away her hot tears, her face hurt from the crying and her throat was raw. "I want to be honest with you"
Uma sat down, preparing himself to listen to whatever it was Kanak wanted to say.

"I was in college, we had an exchange programme and thats how I met Rajiiv. We clicked straight away and falling in love with him was easy, but one day my family sent him away, got him sent back to Lahore without any reason, I thought that maybe it was because they didnt want me to marry a Punjabi, but my cousin married one and it didnt bother them and at first they liked him"

Uma clenched his fist, anger coursing through his veins. Another man had come close to what was his, he hated it. Tipping her chin up with his index finger, he looked into her chocolate orbs, her eyes were showing longing, but for what he did not know.

"Do you love him still" she nodded "I always will"
Uma looked away, then as his gaze returned on her, he knew then and there that he would ensure that she was his, in every way. Rajiiv would be but a distant memory.

"You wont for long Jaan"
His thumb pulled her bottom lip down "Tell me you dont want this"
"Want what" she stuttered
"Me to kiss you"

"I dont" she paused, her eyes drawn into him, his scent making her even more hypnotised
"I love somebody else, it wouldnt be right"
"But you are my wife, not his"
"I cant, we cant" she whispered but her body crept closer to him anyway

Like a moth to a flame she was drawn to him, she heard him inhale sharply
He was exquisite, sharp jaw line, hard muscles and eyes that pulled at her heart
She couldnt deny her attraction, but she wasnt sure why recently it was Uma she looked for in a busy room not Rajiiv

Throwing all care to the side, she kissed him, slowly, softly but with a hidden desire for more
"Do you want this" he whispered
"Yes"
Pulling her to him, she pushed her hands under his top

Then pulling back, she blushed
"Im all yours, dont be afraid"
Kanak bit her lip, but proceeded to run her hands over his chest
"Isn't this wrong"
"The only wrong thing you've been doing recently is thinking of him rather than me"

Kanak's hands froze and she pulled them away "Why are you so stubborn in the way that you must have me"
"You're my wife I dont need to explain"
"But with your looks, job, family you could have any woman, so why me"

Uma put her next to him and stood up "Stop going on about this go get another woman, or maybe I might"
His shoulders shook in his anger
"That wasnt what I meant"
"Then what did you mean" he shouted turning back to face her

"Whats so special about me" she looked down, her voice was low

Kanak looked down at her phone "Its Rajiiv, I know youre married but im back in India and I need to see you"
Uma peeked over her shoulder
The question she had previously asked him had left him backed up in a corner

There was so many things special about Kanak that made him want her more than anyone he had ever wanted before.
But now as she turned to face him, with her questioning eyes

"Go" he whispered, making her eyes light up. It was true he had fallen for her years ago when he first met her, but if her heart belonged to someone else, then what could he do, he couldnt force her to stay if her heart belonged to someone else.

"Are you sure" he nodded, lowering his head he pressed a kiss to her cheek "Goodbye jaan"
She inhaled, she didnt want this to be a goodbye, she had grown quite fond of the godlike man stood infront of her

"Ill be back I promise" his hand covered hers
"I will wait forever, but dont make promises you cannot keep"
The tears brimming in his eyes made her heart hurt
"Its not a promise I can't"
His lips on hers, interrupting her sentence

She could taste the saltiness of his tears on her lips, he pulled away quickly, her fingers went to her lips and she stepped back
"Let me take you there" she nodded and she shouldnt have but she wasnt ready to leave him yet

The car was full of tension in the air but nevertheless it was deadly silent
Finally arriving at the cafe, she turned and put her hand on the car handle
She couldnt look him in the eye again or she wouldn't be able to do this

Pushing the door open, she got out and walked over to the cafe
Rajiiv stood up straight away and pulled her into his arms
Uma tapped his fingers on the steering wheel, his eyes glassy as he watched their embrace

"Let go, my husband is in the car"
"Its so good to see you Kanak, but please dont call him that, im here to get you back, I know you still love me"
"I do, its just difficult, Uma isnt a bad man"
Rajiiv guffawed "So he has a name"

Kanak turned to look at Uma's car
"Spend the night with me Kanak"
"I cant, it isnt right"
"Isnt it, hes your husband for names sake, thats it"
He followed her gaze then pushed past her and walked over to Uma's car

Uma got out "I dont know what hold you have over my girl and why shes so scared to even hug me, but it stops now" his Punjabi accent was thick as he locked eyes with Uma.
Uma said nothing, but his eyes remained on Kanak

"Im going home Kanak, do you need a lift or are you staying"
"Dont pressure her" shouted Rajiiv but both Uma and Kanak ignored him
"Im staying" she whispered
He nodded and got into the car

Kanak shoved past Rajiiv, her hand went through Uma's car window
"Hey"
He looked up at her
"I always keep my promises"
He smiled and started his car

Driving away, she wasnt sure why it hurt so much to see him leave

So a sad chapter but I hope it shows how Kanak has gone from not accepting Uma to at least considering his feelings!

A whole week had passed and Uma was living on minimum sleep and no food. His hair was a mess and the bags under his eyes were ginormous. He had spent so much time thinking of all the things Kanak could be doing with Rajiiv.

He had lied to his family, said she was visiting her family but something told him she wasnt going to return. The door opening made him stop in his tracks.
She slid past the door and shut it

He strode toward her and pulled her into his arms, letting her chandan scent calm him "Did he touch you" she shook her head
"I didnt let him" he wanted to believe she was telling the truth but he felt sick with his own imaginations

"Why did you stay away for so long"
"I needed to finalise things with him"
"Such as" he tucked her hair behind her ear
"That I am a married woman"
"So he didnt have you in ways only I should"

"No and he never will, I was stupid to think it was okay to return to him but I had to know for sure what I felt"
"And what do you feel"
Kanak sighed

"That you deserve a chance, at the very least with how good you have been to me"
Uma smiled
Kanak stroked his cheek "Ive only been gone for a week, and you look so tired and have lost so much weight, come lets eat"

Sitting him down, she grabbed some food and began to feed him "Kanak you dont need to" "shh" she said sternly, but her eyes were teary
Putting the plate down she wrapped her arms around him
"You need to look after yourself, youre gonna make yourself ill if you do this everytime I leave"

Uma pulled back, his face sad. "Youre going to leave again"
She shook her head "Wherever I go, ill take you with me but promise me, youll never punish yourself this way"
"I promise"
Kanak sat on his lap and snuggled into him

Her other hand massaging his hair
"Promise you wont leave me again because if you do, im not sure I'll survive"
"Dont talk like that, im here just rest okay"
Uma held her tighter to him and closed his eyes


Kanak watched as Uma's eyes drooped and his head fell back.
Kanak placed her hand on his stubble, stroking it, he opened his eyes and looked down at her with a hooded expression
He leant down, rubbing his stubble against her cheek
"tumhaaree daadhi" she giggled not being able to finish her sentence

He smirked as he looked down at her glowing expression
"You asked me before what was so good about you"
Her smile dropped, fearful of what his answer would be
"Well, everything about you makes it special, from the way you blow your hair out of your face when you're annoyed or the way your toes curl when I compliment you"

She watched her toes curl and smiled, she wondered how he had paid so much attention to her to know so much about her
They say the man you should trust with your heart wasnt the one who complimented you when you dressed up and put your make up on, but the man who recognised you in a crowded room even when you hadn't made an effort
