Kanak sat at the window of her dorm , the wind blowing her hair back as she sat next to her friend

She twirled a daisy between her fingers
"Kanak, you seem so happy to go home"
Smiling she looked towards Anika

"So happy, im going to see my best friend, and I havent seen him in so long, when I had to leave for my studies , there was no real way to stay in contact but I know he will be as happy to see me as I am him"


"Pagal girl, what if he has forgot you, or has changed"

Dropping the daisy to the floor, she pulled her legs up and jumped back into her room

"He would never forget me, we're best friends, change, no, thats impossible "

Anika shook her head "I know you talk about him all the time, but he never visited, never replied to your letters, I just dont want you to be heartbroken when you go home"

Holding Anika's shoulders she bent low "Maybe he moved home, lets not assume, I know ill prove you wrong when I call you and tell you how great it was seeing him after all these years"

"How many years has it been exactly Kanak"

Blushing she lay on her bed "6, but what does time matter when youre in"
Stopping she pulled herself up

Anika raised her eyebrow "Love"?
Kanak shook her head "No, of course not, were just friends "

Anika nodded "All im saying, is dont give him your heart if he wont give you his, people changed Kanak, really fast. The young boy you knew may be a completley different man"

Kanak sighed "Anika, trust me, I know you care but he will never hurt me , Uma will never break my heart"

A tall man, dressed in a black suit stood at the top office of Toshniwal Enterprises.
Sipping his coffee he slammed the cup down.

"I dont care if your wife is pregnant Akash, I want you in tomorrow, you can see your baby when she or he is born"
The man's jaw was strained in anger as he gripped the phone tightly

"But Sir, its my first born and i'm my wife's birthing partner, without me she wont handle it well" begged Akash

The man rolled his eyes "You listen to me, I dont pay you to sit with your wife through pregnancy or to chew my ear off because you dont want to do a job I pay you for, so you will be at that airport to pick up our client tomorrow morning at 8am or youre fired"

Akash gulped at his boss' anger.
"Im sorry Sir, but my wife's pregnancy is more important, if you want to fire me then okay, I understand"

The man threw the phone down in a fit of anger
Now he would have to go to the airport to recieve his client

What was the point of having all these workers if they didnt do their job properly?
Everyone always had a complaint, but the path to success wasnt paved with favours and ease


Maybe he was the only person who knew that, picking up his coffee, he gulped the last part down before storming out of his office


"I want the papers done by 5pm, for Akash's dismisal, he no longer works here"
The woman looked up at the clock 4:40pm.

Nodding she watched as he walked away
Answering his phone he paused
"Hello Maasa"
"Beta, when are you home"

"Not now Maasa, I have a lot to do and an early start in the morning, was this call necessary"
"Arre beta, is it wrong for a mother to want to hear her sons voice, and see if he is well"

Rolling his eyes he cleared his voice "Again this drama, you know im fine, ill be home when I am free , bye Maasa"

Revati sighed as she sat back on her chair "Please bring someone who can bring light into my Uma's darkness "


Note: I have no idea what Uma's mothers name is in the show, so for the purpose of this story and future stories I will use the name Revati until I can find out her name.

Kanak couldn't wait to arrive at the airport.
Twiddling her thumbs she turned to the sleeping man next to her

"Uncle "
Tapping his shoulder he stopped snoring, blinked fast and looked toward her nodding

"Im going to see my best friend since childhood, im so excited and this journey has been so lonely so I had to wake you up"
Kanak said smiling, tapping her feet on the floor anxiously


"Ladki, I have been woken up by your constant chatter and singing throughout the entire journey, cant you let me sleep"

Kanak's jaw dropped
"But Uncle, your snoring prohibited me from sleeping so really its all fair, whats the saying"

Snapping her fingers she smiled "All is fair in love and war"
The man looked on confused "We're strangers, theres no love or war here"


Kanak held out her hand "Then we can be friends"
The man laughed , taking her hand

"May no one dampen your spirit ladki"
Kanak smiled "Never Uncle"

As the plan arrived Kanak hugged the man, wishing him well as she went to collect her bags


"I have never seen a happier girl"
The man muttered to himself

Turning he shouted "I hope you have a good time seeing your best friend"
Sticking her thumb up she smiled, so he had listened

Uma stepped into the airport surrounded by security guards

Walking over to the arrivals section, he lifted his sunglasses from his face, tucking them in his pocket he looked down at his watch

Tapping his foot, he hated waiting.

Kanak couldn't believe her eyes, dropping her bags she ran forward
Wrapping her arms around Uma's waist she smiled into his chest

Looking up at him "Uma, i knew you would come"
Uma kept his arms down straight

Whispers could be heard from the crowd "I cant believe she hugged him, has she no idea who he is"
"He will kill her, or something, poor girl"

A security guard pulled Kanak away, one grabbed one arm, the other another

"Hey, whats going on, Uma why are they doing this"

Uma glared down at her "Who are you"
Scrunching up her face she shook her head "Dont you remember me, its Kanak, your best friend"

Uma's eyes lit up in recognition
Kanak tried to tug her arms back

"Let her go"
Kanak looked up at Uma , thankfully

Turning she picked up her bags, to see Uma and his men had left with another arrival

Huffing she ran after them , "Shiv Ji, what kind of joke is this, I have heavy bags and small legs, I cant run to catch up with these tall men"

Stopping she ran into Uma's back, rubbing her nose, he turned and glared at her

"What the hell do you think youre doing following me, I made my guards leave you once, I wont stop them next time"

Kanak's eyes widened as a guard neared her
"One minute, let me just catch my breath before you turn all angry again"

Uma scowled, tapping his foot "I dont like waiting hurry up"

Removing her hands from her hips, she passed her bags to a guard
"I want you to take me home, I assumed thats why you were here"

"I was here to pick up a client, it was just chance that you arrived here at the same time"

Wiggling her eyebrows she smiled "Or fate"
Shaking his head he pinched the brim of his nose "I dont believe in these meaningless things"

"Well, I told my family you would pick me up so you have to"
Uma smirked "No I dont, this isnt a taxi service and we had no prior agreement "

Turning on his heel he walked away
The cheek, they even had her bags

Running up to his car she slammed her hands on the window

" Would you really leave a girl all alone here at an unknown place, anything could happen and that would live on your conscious forever"

Uma rolled his eyes "Read my lips carefully, I. DO. NOT. CARE."

Kanak gasped
Standing infront of his car she led over the bonnet

"Please, please , please"
Uma rolled his eyes

Rolling down the window "Get in"
Kanak cheered as she got in

Passers by clapped at her efforts
Waving like a Queen at them she looked back at Uma

"Im not doing this to be nice, youre just giving me a headache "
Kanak nodded understandingly "Whatever you need to tell yourself"

Lowering her voice, she inched closer to him "But I know the truth"

Uma growled, gritting his teeth, he started the car

"You knowww if the wind changes your face will stay like that"

Uma scowled again as he started to drive
Kanak couldn't remove the smile off her face at being in such close proximity to her best friend once again

Kanak looked out the window, looking towards Uma she began to sing really loudly

Uma glared at her, putting his hand over her mouth
Poking her tounge out she licked his hand

"Chi, disgusting why did you do that"
Wiping his hand on his trousers he stopped the car and ran over to a cafe to wash his hands

Running after him she laughed "Youre always so dramatic, its fine im not ill see"

Opening her mouth she said "aaah"
Shaking his head he grabbed a lollipop from the stall, unwrapped it and shoved it in her mouth

Coughing she smiled "You remembered I liked this flavour"
Rolling his eyes he pointed to the car
"Just get in"


As they continued to drive Kanak reached for the radio
Uma grabbed her hand as she huffed, annoyed

Parking he got out to get her bags
Kanak smiled "See, I knew you had come there to drop me "

Uma ignored her as it started to rain
"Shit, my suit"
Kanak held her hands out and spun around

Laughing she smiled at him "Oh dont be so boring, its a suit"
Uma couldn't look anywhere else

She was such a happy person, in comparison to him
Nothing seemed to upset her

Santosh stepped out waving to her
"Kanak you will get ill"

Kanak smiled, taking her bags she thanked him and ran over to Santosh hugging her

Uma drove away shaking his head, what a weird turn of events

Uma arrived home, taking his mothers blessings he sat down to eat when he got a call

Walking upstairs, Revati sighed
Hearing a knock on the door she pulled it open to see Kanak

"Kanak beti, how are you come in"
Kanak took her blessings then hugged her

"Its so good to see you Maasa"
"How come youre back beti"

Kanak explained how she was back, they both reminisced old times but stopped as Uma walked down stairs

"What are you doing here"
"Beta, dont be rude shes a guest"
Kanak smiled at him, holding out a flask

"I made you ginger tea incase you got a cold from the rain"
"I dont get"

Sneezing he shook his head, scowling he took the flask as he muttered under his breath "colds "

"Kanak, stay for dinner I made enough"
Uma scowled but sat down, Kanak sat opposite him

Tapping her foot against his, he raised an eyebrow as she looked down trying to hide her laughter

As he went to take a mouthful she blew out her cheeks and then winked making him choke

Revati slapped his back "Uma, eat slowly the food isnt going anywhere"

Glaring at Kanak he pulled his chair back and went to walk upstairs
Kanak said her goodbyes

Kanak shouted over to Uma, he stopped
"Its not good to get so distracted at meal times"

His hand scrunched into a fist as he continued up the stairs
Kanak left happily at how things were going

Uma lifted his phone reading the text message from the unknown number

Unknown: How are you feeling? :)

Uma: Who is this? What is that thing after the question mark?

Kanak: Its Kanak! And its a smiley emoji, you should try it sometime ;)

Uma: How did you get my number? Try what? Whats the other symbol?

Kanak: LOL! By the way, that means laughing out loud, incase you didnt know. You should try smiling, it would suit you!
Maasa gave it to me and its a winking face :)

Uma: I didnt need a paragraph for an explanation. Why are you winking at me and why does it matter if I smile?

Kanak: You ask a lot of questions, so I have to type out a big explanation. Because you would look better! Why? Should I not wink at you? ;) ;) ;)

Uma: By the way, I did know what LOL meant. Well I have a lot to ask because you make no sense! Stop winking! How do you do an angry face?

Kanak: So now the student wants to learn , I usually do this :F, but it looks like a toothbrush. I do make sense, youre just slow! Okay, ill stop ;)

Uma: :F :F :F. I am not slow, youre just mad.

Kanak: The student has become the master, I am a good teacher! Maybe I was a teacher in another life? Im not mad, you are! Also, that toothbrush reminds me I need to clean my teeth! Brb!

Uma: No, mad as in crazy. Im not mad, you annoy me. You have taught me nothing

Uma: Hello? You text me now youre taking ages to reply

Uma: Hello

Kanak: Okay, im back. Impatient arent you! I was cleaning my teeth. I knew what you meant I was pulling your leg! Brb= Be right back

Uma: I dont like being kept waiting, I see.
How can you pull my leg when youre nowhere near me

Kanak: Its a saying, it means I was messing with you! Hey you dont know where I am, i could be in your room!

Uma stood up quickly checking under the bed
Sure she wasnt there, he sat back down.

Kanak: You checked didnt you? Got you again! :)

Uma: Yes you did, congratulations. :)

Kanak smiled down at her phone, she wondered why a simple smile emoji could make her stomach feel so weird

Kanak: Anyway, i'm really tired from my flight so im going to sleep!

Uma: Did you not sleep on the flight?

Kanak: No, someone was snoring :( (Thats a sad face by the way)

Uma: I got that one, guess you are a good teacher. Sleep well Pagli :)

Kanak: Sleep well Ziddee Admi :)

Kanak looked at her phone again before tucking it under her pillow, the smile never left her face as she slept

For once, Uma slept well that night
Dreams of a certain brown haired beauty invaded his sleep

I have been wondering what a texting conversation would be like between Uma and Kanak, but I doubt we will see it on the serial as Uma hates phones.

Uma awoke in the morning, ready to go to work he heard his phone buzz

Kanak (Pagli): Have a good day at work :) Dont be to :F be :) instead

Uma smiled lightly down at his phone

Uma: Have a good day at whatever youre doing to, thanks ill try

Kanak: Wanna know what youre saved under on my phone?

Uma: ...

Kanak: Ziddee Admi!

Kanak jumped as her phone began to ring

"Hello"
"Why have you saved my name under that, I am not a stubborn man" Uma fumed


Kanak laughed loudly "Would you rather I put impatient man"?
Uma sighed heavily "Theres no changing you is there "?

Kanak pursed her lips "Nope, anyway go get ready for work, dont be late"

Uma looked down at his phone as it cut off
Running downstairs he took his mothers blessings

"Beta Kanak needs a lift here tonight with her family, will you pick them up for 6"

Uma shook his head "I cant, im to busy"
"Please beta, for me"

Uma nodded as he left


It was 6pm by the time Uma arrived at Kanak's house
Santosh sat in the front as Kanak squeezed in the back next to Meena and Golu

"Rest of the family not coming" Uma askes
"Nai beta, they are all to busy tonight"

Uma started the car, making polite conversation with Santosh as he drove

The car stopped quickly as a car drove fast infront of them
Kanak flew forward as Uma stretched out his arm to stop her

"Why arent you wearing a belt" Uma fumed
Kanak pulled him closer, whispering in his ear

"Golu bhai is sat on it"
Uma smirked before nodding and driving much slower this time

Santosh watched, with a knowing glance between the pair she smiled happily

After greeting Revati, Kanak sighed as she sat down

Santosh nudged her "Whats up with you"
Kanak's eyes went to Uma sat on his phone

Santosh nodded "Ive got this dont worry"
Whispering to Revati, the two left the room

A few minutes later music started playing loudly, as they yanked Kanak up and brought her to the centre of the room
