Kanak sat on a stool, elbow resting on her leg as her chin rested in her hand
She sighed loudly as she twirled her scarf in her other hand

"Whats got you in a day dream " asked Rani as she put the box down and heaved a sigh of relief

Jumping up Kanak twirled Rani around "There is a new man who lives around here, he has a wolf tattoo on his neck, oh hes so beautiful"

Rani laughed "Oh, thats Aditya, Uma Shankar's cousin"
Kanak raised her eyebrow "Uma who"

Rani shook her head , flicking Kanak she rolled her eyes "You are oblivious, only see what you want to see! Uma Shankar is an aryuvedic doctor, his family have lived on Hanuman Gali for years, Nanda is friends with Bhaboo, Aditya has just moved back here from London"

Kanak clicked her fingers "I have an idea, im going to befriend Uma Shankar and make him get me closer to Aditya"

As Kanak ran off, Rani shouted after her "Wait, he doesnt do female friends"

But her call went onto deaf ears as Kanak carried on running.

Kanak knocked on Uma Shankar's door
Nanda pulled the door open "Kanak, what are you doing here "

"Hello Aunty, is Uma here"
"Uma, why do you want to see him"
"I need his help"

Nanda smiled "okay, come in, Uma doesnt treat females "
Kanak smiled as she walked around the house to find Uma

Stopping outside Aditya's room she watched him do press ups, smiling she knocked on his door

Jumping up he leant against the door "What brings a beautiful girl to my door"
Kanak blushed "Im looking for Uma"

Aditya scowled and pointed to Uma's room "If hes bad to you come straight back to me"

Kanak nodded "aw hes already protective"
Pushing the door open she watched Uma exercise "Oh wow"

Shaking her head she knocked on the door, now was not the time!

Uma stood up, turning around "Hello, how can i help you"
Kanak walked in shutting the door she sat down "My name is Kanak, i live up the road, i need your help"

Uma nodded, Kanak hadnt spoken to him since childhood, she was his best friend, but clearly she didnt remember or just didnt want to address it

"I want Aditya to fall in love with me and i need your help"
Uma turned around "No, you can leave now"
Kanak stood up "Hey! Come on, why not "

"I dont delve in these matters "
Kanak put her hands together "Oh please, I can help you in return "

Uma was about to shake his head then stopped "Actually there is something you can help me with"

Kanak smiled "anything"
"I need to learn how to make sweets"

Kanak rubbed her hands together "my speciality, so we have a deal"

Uma looked at Kanak's outstretched hand, taking it they shook hands

Kanak looked down at her now empty hand, she wondered why she felt sparks

It was 3 nights later when Kanak recieved a message on her mobile "Heard Aditya has a date is it with you"

Kanak huffed as she sat up, Rani's message had ruined her night.
It was time to get Uma's help.

Climbing down the ladder from her room she jumped down and ran to Uma's house.

Grabbing a stone she threw it at Uma's window "Uma" she whisper shouted
Throwing a few more stones she huffed

As Uma opened the window Kanak threw another stone that hit Uma on the nose "ow, wait Kanak? What are you doing here"

Kanak smiled "come down i need your help"
Uma sighed rubbing his face with his hand "Kanak, its 1 am"
Kanak shrugged "We have no time scale on helping eachother "

Uma sighed as he flung his legs out the window and jumped

Pushing Kanak down with him, they rolled down the hill, his hand remained behind her head to protect her head from the fall

As they reached the bottom, Uma pulled his head up "Kanak are you okay"

Kanak's hands still gripped tightly onto his collar, his hands wrapped around her waist, the heat radiated from his body keeping her warm from the outside chill of the air

If she answered, she would have to move

Uma lifted his hand, tucking a part of her hair behind her ear "Kanak"
His voice sent shivers through her body

Uma began to tickle her waist, she squirmed as she squealed, laughing, all at once he rolled ontop of her as he continued to tickle her

"Uma stop" Kanak laughed
"Tickling always got a response out of you"

Suddenly realising what Uma said, Kanak looked up at him, as if seeing him in a new light "Uma I"

Uma pulled himself up and held his hand out to her for her to take, she felt sparks again

He hadnt laughed like that in a long time, but Uma had no time for friends
Kanak looked up at him, why on earth did she feel this way with Uma, it was Aditya she wanted right?

"So how can i help you"
Kanak cleared her throat "Aditya has a date, and I need your help to get him to ask me out on one"

Uma cleared his throat, rubbing his chin with his hand he grabbed hers "come with me"

Stopping at a shop he pulled her in, pushing her to the mirror he stood behind her "Aditya doesnt like women who dress like you do"

Pulling something off the clothes rack he held it out to her "He likes women who wear this"

Kanak grabbed it and went to change, Kanak looked at the blue tshirt and the white shorts

Walking out of the changing room she pulled the shorts down as she looked up at Uma "how do i look"

Uma felt breathless at her beauty, lifting his hand he twisted it as she nodded she twisted around to

Stepping closer he smiled down at her "you look perfect "

Kanak blushed

As she waited outside for Aditya to walk past, Uma stood watching through the store window

Aditya swung his keys around his fingers, whistling he stopped as he saw Kanak

"Oh its you again"
Stepping forward he looked her up and down, grabbing her by the waist he yanked her forward

Uma gritted his teeth as his hand became a fist

"You and me, at the cafe over there 9pm"
Standing back he smirked before whistling and walking away

Kanak jumped on the spot as she clapped her hands
"We did it Uma, thank you"

Uma smiled down at her "let me walk you home"

As they arrived outside her bedroom window, she turned towards him "Has no one ever caught your heart"

Uma smiled "only one, but she yearns for someone else"
Turning on his heel he walked away

Kanak huffed as she climbed back up her window, why did it bother her that he liked someone else?

It was 9pm as Kanak arrived at the cafe.
Aditya stood up , pulling a seat back for her Kanak sat down

Leaning back he called the waiter over with his hand "Hm, I will have a coffee, and so will she "
Leaning up he whispered into the waiters ear "with a twist"

Kanak smiled over at him as she felt something stroke her leg, looking under the table she watched Aditya's hand, pulling her leg back Aditya smiled


The waiter pulled the coffee over on the tray, Kanak lifted it to her mouth, blowing it she took a sip

"So, how come you came back here from London"
Aditya smiled "To find a beautiful girl like you to be my wife"

Kanak blushed as she took another sip of her coffee downing it

Aditya and Kanak continued to talk for a while, until Aditya said he had to return home, pulling Kanak up she tipped to the side

"Aditya I dont feel so good" murmured Kanak as she fell to the side Aditya grabbed her

Bending down he pressed a sloppy kiss on her mouth, it was a bitter taste as she shoved at his shoulders a wave of dizziness hit her again

"See you around Kanak"
Aditya walked away as Kanak fell back into the table

Uma walked past the cafe, seeing Kanak he walked forward

"Kanak are you"
Groaning she rested her forehead on his shoulder "i feel sick"

Uma lifted the coffee mug, sniffing it he grimaced as he slammed it down

Aditya had spiked her drink, lifting Kanak up she groaned as she rested her head on his shoulder


Uma knew he couldn't take Kanak to her house, so dropping her at his, he led her down
Calling Rani on the landline he waited for her to pick up , explaining what had happened he asked her to make an excuse that Kanak was staying at a friends


Walking to Aditya's room, he grabbed him and pinned him to the wall "Hurt Kanak again and I will make you pay"
Letting go he walked away

Aditya laughed "So Uma has a crush hmm"

Uma walked out of the bathroom as he sat on the chair in his room.

"Uma" Kanak called
Uma stood up immediatley, walking forward to Kanak, he sat on the edge of the bed.

Kanak sat up "Thank you for helping me "
Uma nodded "Do you really think Aditya is good for you"

Kanak sighed "We all make mistakes Uma, I can still help him be better, i could be good for him"

Uma rolled his eyes and stood up "As you please"
Kanak stood up "Uma wait, please dont be mad at me"

Uma turned around "Im not mad I just"
As he looked into Kanak's eyes he became speechless once again, he had no idea what kind of magic she had put on him.


"I just dont want you to get hurt"
Kanak smiled, Uma was such a good man, and she knew Aditya could be just as good if only he tried.

Kanak walked back and got into bed, Uma led on the sofa.


The next morning Uma woke up to see Kanak had gone, leaving a note he picked it up "Its time to make sweets, ill see you at lunchtime, Kanak x"

Uma smiled as he placed the note in a drawer
Nanda pushed his hair back "Uma you are smiling a lot more nowadays"

Uma shook his head "Its nothing like that maasi sa"
"It seems Kanak is good for you Uma"

Uma smiled, hm maybe she was
"Does she know"
Uma shook his head "No, she doesnt remember"

Nanda sat down "You should tell her , it may make you guys stronger "

"Okay Uma, so first put all the ingredients we have weighed out in this bowl and mix it"
Uma tipped them in slowly and began to shake the bowl

Kanak slapped her forehead "No, like this"
Grabbing the spoon, she placed it in his hand, holding his hand she began to help him stir it, slowly

"Okay, now we need to add some water but not to much"
Uma poured a glass of water in and stirred "Kanak its to thick I cant stir it"

Kanak added some more flour in as she laughed "Okay now use those muscles for something good and stir it well"

Kanak rested her hand on his arm "Okay now we need to let it ferment, so we can continue tomorrow"
Uma turned to face Kanak , her eyes widened

Biting her lip she burst out laughing "You have the mixture all over your face"
Holding her sides she toppled over as she continued to laugh

Uma dipped his finger into the batter and wiped it on her face
Kanak grabbed some in her hand as Uma ran around the table, leaning from side to side

"Kanak no, im sorry"
Kanak tipped her head "hm it was all funny before, now what are you scared "

Throwing the batter on her hand at him she ran again as she laughed

Uma grabbed some more, picking her up by the waist he spun her around
"Okay im sorry, Uma no" Kanak laughed as she kicked her legs

Putting his hand around her face he rubbed it in before dropping her
"Umaaa" Kanak shouted before jumping on him and pushing him over

Rubbing her cheek on his she laughed "I won" sticking her tounge out she took a deep breath, this was her exercise for atleast a year

"Uma, Uma"
Uma didnt reply as he kept looking at her
Tapping his cheek he blinked as she raised her eyebrow in question

Raising his hand he rubbed his thumb against the batter on her cheek and licked his thumb

"Sweet"
Kanak gulped, she had to get a hold of herself

Pulling herself up she shook her hair as Bhaboo walked in "what a mess, you were making sweets hm, not a war zone"

Kanak grabbed Bhaboos hand "Bhaboo he started it"
Bhaboo pulled her hand away as she tutted
"I dont want it on me, you two are like children"

Uma shook his head "No Aunty, Kanak did it"
Bhaboo nodded "I knew it wouldnt be long till she led you astray again"
Laughing she walked out after warning them to clean up

Again? What did Bhaboo mean again, Kanak wondered

"Okay now its a lot thinner, so add about 2tbsp of flour, then stir it" Kanak advised
Uma poked his tounge out in concentration as he stirred

"Its like its some kind of maths exam "
Uma rolled his eyes at Kanak 's comment but carried on

"Okay, now we need to put that in the piping bag slowly "
Uma did as he was told then stopped "wait how is this going to make sweets"

"Be patient na" Kanak said as she bought the next ingredients over

Kanak explained how to make the sugar syrup as Uma began, Kanak watched him.

"Okay good, now we need to heat this oil to 350 and grab the piping bag, squeeze it slowly into the oil making a spiral "

Uma tried but somehow, made a square
Kanak grabbed his hand, her chest pressed up against his back "like this"

Tingles shot through her hand as she guided his hand slowly to make the right shape "now turn it over like this"

After a few minutes she picked them up and moved them into the sugar mixture , "now pick them up with this, shake them and pop them on the plate"

Uma did as he was told and breathed a sigh of relief when he was done "thats how you make jalebis, here try some"

Kanak held out her hand, Uma took the bite, grabbing her hand he licked her finger before smiling, he moaned at how good the taste was

Kanak's face flushed red, this man had no idea the things he did to her

"Uma"
"Hm"
"Did we know eachother before, were we friends"

Uma's face darkened "Ive never had any friends and i dont have any now"
Turning around he stormed out

What was he hiding? Kanak knew she needed to find out, looking at her phone she had a message from an unknown number "Hello, this is Aditya, meet me at the dusk hotel at 11pm"

Kanak frowned, she couldn't tell Uma because he was mad at her, so she would go alone, whats the worst that could happen?
