The key moment at which Payal actively turned on Kanak was when she was asked to reflect on why Kanak gave her the means to run away yet hasn't done so herself. At that point I think Payal decided Kanak was a hypocrite who either preaches without practising or has ulterior motives in making her run away. And I'm guessing this opinion can only change if Payal witnesses Kanak breaking off her relationship to Uma and walking away for good, which circumstances may ensure doesn't happen.

Anything else that Payal sees Kanak doing, including standing up for her in front of everyone else, won't register or have the same impact. If Payal is left alone in the Toshniwal house as patrani just like she thinks she wants, with no Kanak around, that may be when she gets to reflect on how Kanak was actually the only rationalising or reasonable influence in that household. Or it could go the other way and she may become even more bitter that Kanak managed to "get away" from the house and she is still stuck here.

Either way I see shades of Emily in Payal. Sandhya stood up for Emily and helped ensure she got her right but then once Emily got into the Rathi parivaar, she kind of brewed up trouble for Sandhya because she wanted Mohit's love and Bhabho's approval. She knew Sandhya wasn't wrong but still she stopped being a friend to her, killed her own identity and dreams, and started acting in a manner that conformed to what the Rathis wanted of her. Emily often went into victim-mode as well till she grew tired of waiting for things to turn around, accepted life as is, and just got on with things.

Hoping the Payal track is handled better than Emily's though. Just as the whole Zakir angle turned up and things had started looking interesting it got dropped randomly, which disappointed me.

As for Kanak, I think Kanak defends Payal a lot because she is projecting on to Payal. She's said it before that she thinks they're both in the same situation, and that's why she feels she sees can see where Payal is coming from and gets frustrated that no one else in the family does. Kanak feels Payal has undergone a forced marriage like her. Kanak gave Payal money so she could run away because if it were up to Kanak she herself would run away, except she can't because she has the shop to obtain yet. What I'm glad to see is that Kanak, after the room related deception, has been under no illusion about Payal's ill-will towards her. She knows full well Payal's opinion towards her has turned. However she sees it as Payal "acting out" and thinks that eventually Payal will see the error of her ways and when that happens she wants Payal to know that she will still offer her the hand of friendship without malice.

Well said.

You made an excellent correlation between Emily and Payal 👍🏼
