Okay...so there is a difference between fandom for an actor and liking his character regardless of what he does...and looking at things objectively and giving the character credit where it's due and shaking your head no, when he is wrong.
I'm not an Avinesh fan...I'm not watching this drama for him. I was a huge DABH fan, and that is why I'm watching TSMSP..so no number of shirtless Uma scenes are going to soften my opinion of him...which is pretty much the same as Kanak's.
@Varsha79...makes an excellent case in support of Uma.
One thing I'd like to say is ... Uma and Kanak buying the same gift for Shiv...is not necessarily an indication of them thinking alike. Rather, it shows that they both love and know Shiv very well.
Also...I'm going to differ from everyone else here...hate is a pretty strong word...so I'm not going to say I hate Uma...but I don't like him either. 😆
Why? Let's see...where should I begin?...
He's a narrow-minded, female oppressing, religious extremist.
He forces Payal's parents to marry her off to his brother's picture...even though they were not inclined to do so. From Gabasa's words...we know he would have used force if necessary to make them comply.
He forces his will and rules on people according to what his version of dharam dictates.
You never know what is going to set him off because he changes the rules of the game as he wills.
As far as he is concerned...cell phones are banned...you can't have tea or coffee or even onions. I guess Coca-Cola would be out too. Imagine spending the rest of your life only on tap water. 🥱
No shampoos or conditioners, no TV, no fridge, no washer or dryer, no AC, ...thank God he allows for the ceiling fan!
You have to wake up at a certain time. You even are put on schedule for meals. Miss one and you may as well tie a rock to your stomach...because you ain't getting nothing in that kitchen girl!
Is this a home or a prison?
He snatched the house back from someone who was doing meat business...because again...it was against his dharam...not against the law...but against his version of dharam.
Did he even once consider where the man and his family would go? How would he make his livelihood? How would he provide for his family?
I eat meat...so I guess that would make me a criminal! 🤔
This one really takes the cake...
He forcefully married Kanak against her will!!
Him standing patiently until she entered the house...him guarding her against the sun's glare...him treating her with patience all became meaningless in front of this. 🥱
I mean just imagine yourself in Kanak's place. If some unknown dude...for all you know he maybe a dakoo or something...decided you were the "chosen one"...and carried you off and forced you to marry him while you're kicking and screaming for help...and his henchmen (in Uma's case...the entire town of Ladno 😆) do nothing but toss flower petals at you...how would you feel?
Would you forgive him because he was rich or good-looking? (If so...best of luck 👍🏼)
Or would you try to make a break for it before the suhag raat...like Kanak did?
Should I go on?
Uma is in the medical line...so he must know a thing or 2 about germs right?
Yet, in order to "purify" his aangan he expected his wife to collect cow poop and spread it all over the place.
He refuses to treat women...okay...that's his right as a doctor to decide which patients he'll see or not...I'll give him that...but...he thinks women suddenly become untouchable during their monthly periods.
And...this was the clincher...having gone in Suman's room...Kanak had to be purified by washing his feet and then drinking the water! 🤢
Really?!?! 😳
I could see traces of cow dung floating in that water...🤢...Bloody hell! Where is the logic?!?!
There was none! It was the height of insult..and I'm so glad Kanak refused to drink that water...else I would have lost all respect for her.
Wait...there is more...
Kanak behaved brilliantly in the patience test...and then gives him mantri type advice that he found valuable.
Rather than giving her passing marks on both tests...he fails her in one and passes her in the other...wow! I mean, was I supposed to go... Aww! He passed her in the mantri test
No way...😡...in fact I have to wonder if he's purposely wanting to corner her in the rambha test so that she would be his for good. 😳
Uma's only saving grace...as far as I'm concerned...is the fact that he hasn't forced himself on Kanak.
Uma needs to change vastly for Kanak to develop any sort of feelings for him. Or for me to like him.
Sorry...but Uma is no Suraj Rathi. Nor is he really different from the male domineering heroes of all the other dramas...except for his religious extremism and their lack of.
