No need to apologize if you don't sympathize with Kanak totally. It's absolutely fine.. your view, your perspective... I read something today, it went something like this "one shouldn't play victim to the circumstances they have created" ... aptly said that is US is no ram then Kanak is no Sita.
Because they are petty humans like us. They make mistakes, they fall down, they get up, they will learn.
Yes she had chances to run away, escape, send word for her rescue. But she took on the cape of Wonder Woman and tried to do stuff herself. There ain't no shame in asking help. It wouldn't have made her seen any weaker. But smarter that she knew when to raise the alarm.

P.s 2- Kanak doesn't exist for herself yet. She is just a puppy of Bhabho. She can tolerate anything for Bhabho, she can get proof of US' wrongdoing for Bhabho. But not for herself.
