TSMSPJep:25*1.5.17:My Impressions* pull wool over somebody's eyes..
As a child, I was told time and again to do away with pulling wool over my elders eyes. It was usually done in moments when I sought to conceal reality of some petty misdeed I would be guilty of, but made attempts at pretend I had nothing to do with it. Moral science taught me as a young child, that pulling wool over people's eyes is to play tricks and to deceive others. But then over the years, it's became obvious to me, that in our societal environments we are all involved with duping ,conning and fooling each other for some reason or another. Some hoodwinking can be harmless and non-serious, while some can become serious incidents of fraud or swindling.Today's episode invariably reminds me of a common phrase keeping up appearances. We see characters, putting up a public front, pretending to happier than they really are. Duping others, preventing them from catching on to how things really are?
To trust or not to trust? This brain washed heartless sage? Is Kanak's predicament , and the power cut doesn't help either.Lack of knowing what danger lies ahead in the dark ,can throw any one off the rails! Can she trick her brain into believing that light will be restored eventually. She recalls the blackout pranks Ved and Vansh played with her, how they scared her out of her wits! But also give her inklings of how to latch on to the fact that black out is a temporary phase, till power is restored. Kanak hugs her shoulders in the dark as she sits on a rattan stool next to the foot of the full bath..the memory of her brothers , helps to alleviate some of her fear of this pitch darkness, yes when with them light came eventually. Then they were beside her in her dark, gloomy, frightful moments. Today, though, from whence forth comes her light ? It approaches .. she can see it through the gap in bathroom door.. the glow of light wavers and approaches towards her ,and so does the tall figure of Ravan! Mind you in his hand he holds a familiar object ,the lantern ! she bought in Kerela ! well what do you know! fancy finding it in his hand in his house! Sheer magic? or sheer coincidence? What difference does it make? It's glow should tell her so, he wants to illuminate the darkness that surrounds her. Uma's heart whispers softly, only loud enough for him to hear. But his feet move purpose fully to spread the light. Gingerly Kanak eyes stare at the nearing light. Distrust continues to lie within her. His message.. the beacon of light , can be misleading to, pull wool over her eyes regards his true intention. To Help or to take advantage of her, under cover of darkness? Uma hooks the lantern outside the bathroom door. Hopefully this act in itself should throw light upon his true intent, which is wholly honourable! He is far from defiling her. He glorifies her as a boon from his Lord Shiva. For Kanak it's err on the side of caution! She will make do with the small rays of light, that push into the bathroom through narrow crevices. She settles on the stool at the end of the bath, to catch a hundred winks.. exhausted, as she waits for Lord Surya to swallow the darkness. Looks like it's going to be a long night. This proverbial nuptial night.. Uma on one side of the bathroom door with the beacon of light. Kanak on the other side resisting what he has to say. Neither him nor her will have a say in what occurs. It has to be left in the hands of the deities. He has to persevere, as darkness of ignorance still persists. Let it be! as through the medium of darkness the bond of the lamp and wick can come about! giving way to the light of pure, eternal, everlasting love. Uma persists and Kanak's relaxed body gives way and falls into the bath tub! Nuptial night! Immersion in water prepared for him! What a blessed way of duping the ablution ,that insinuates to their union! What spiritual enchantment? Without her he is incomplete. Without him she is incomplete. Together they become absolute! What magic, Uma's heart beats, her ablution in water, renders him purified too! A spiritually permissive deception!! the union of lamp and the wick.
His eye through the crevice of the door only looks out for her safety. His Instructions through the gap, shows concern. A realization of his responsibility towards his wife. In someway , that he's likely to deceive her, somewhat washes away. She trusts his words, to reach out for the bath handles, and she emerges out safely from the waters of the bath. Uma makes full use of the opportunity to serve her and win her trust. Towel to dry off the rather untimely but blessed incident , that can throw light on the fact that he is a man of integrity! To accept his help through the fissures in the shuttered door still worries that he may well be tricking her? after some to and fro with the towel. Kanak thinks practically, dries herself. Dons his yellow kurta to appear decent. Silence speaks between them , as with closed eyes he imagines her modestly clothed, outside the bathroom door! He announces his exit.To usher in calm about her. Set of instructions follow Satyanaryan pooja in the house. Her attire is ready ..when dressed, her presence is required downstairs. Uma leaves.. while she comes out of her the bathroom into the bedroom. Kanak has her own agenda .Not to play happy families but to devise ways and means to get her hands for what she came here for? She chooses to play along a dummy role before all to get her hands on Bhabo's property paper!
Uma returns to the room to turn off the lantern. It's strictly business he reckons and nothing else. Kanak is already one step ahead of him! He talks about conserving water? which to me he's not! he can save water by having a shower. Clever Kanak, picks on his short sightedness of leaving the lamp burning, wasting oil! lubricant that burns! to make light. Kanak of course snuffs the flame. However The fire symbolizes her angst, her protest at how Uma pulled wool over his Bhabo's eyes.. but ,she won't have him dupe her into assuming that all is hunky dory and that she fits well as a puzzle piece in the jig saw called Uma Shankar! Uma enters his bedroom! she has beat him to it. what magic! without him telling her what he forgot! His heart sings, she completes his unfinished tasks and gives purpose to his life. She gives him cover.. together they will write a new tale of eternal love, entitled the love of lamp and wick! His eyes behold the obvious! Her bare legs! But before she feels exposed. Uma's eyes lower in devotion to her ,as he leaves their room in haste. A shy smile plays on his firm square jaw, with a spring in his gait.. his yellow attire now covers the chastity and virtue of her body. The oil in the lamp waits, to burn, dispel darkness and enlighten.. Kanak muses in Uma's bedroom.. its frightening here but she will get her papers and scram! By hook or by crook!! Plus sort the arrogance of this Ravan man! Put a dent where it will hurt the most! His perfect image!
Bhabo continues to pull the wool over her eyes surrounded by the world of make belief and lies.. memories of Suraj Sandhya's sweet shop and flourishing business. Vansh's timely arrival prevents yet another dangerous accident , from happening in the shop. The oil here sets itself on fire ! like bhabos obsessive preoccupation with Suraj and sandhya sweet memories, which now overpower the family's present life and prompt bitter decisions to beat self deceptions ..
The new bride is the talk of the town! Nosey Maasi, asks Uma if all went well between them? His curt reply, all will be good, but it will take time, is an attempts to hoodwink maasi , regards what really happened. Besides its encroaching newly married's privacy. Payal too, wants to know where Kanak is? Maasi gives a catty remark..soon she'll learn the rules. Little does she know the new bride's way. Meanwhile its all about proclaiming self glorification, from maasi.. keeping up appearances, covering up the long wait the family and guests go through till the new bride arrives. Maasi replaces families embarrassment by giving all the impression that the bride will emerge laden with all fineries and heavy ornaments.
The bride does turn up totally contrary to expectations! She wears a casual contemporary frock with bare legs! Normal for her but totally abnormal to the rest! This is total defiance to the dress code required!.. women are in shock! Men gape then lower their eyes! Suman as usual lets her tongue loose! Questions her dress sense! Is told to hush! Well as far as Kanak is concerned its the art of practising Chanikye diplomancy! Saam ,be peace and polite, tries to fit in .. Daam, consider that she can exchange Kanak goes through marriage to retrieve the papers! Dand! Kanak resists his approach ,non-violently.. bhed! Mutiny ! measures to dupe the lot to get to the papers! use the ploy to pull wool over peoples's eyes to get to your goal!! Kanak wants Uma's attention towards her unconventional dress sense! Then once in the privacy of her room she will state her issues with what he suggested she wear... he will give her choice .. she will get access to the safe and then.. her hands on what she wants and she's out of here!!
Quite a bold episode.. moving scenes between Uma and Kanak Kanak will not accept any more nonsense !they do not deter her advances..its all systems go for her! she tried the steps to diplomacy , Saam, daam , dhand.. in the episode we see her bhed.. challenging and rejecting the clothes she held up against herself, as Uma came into the room.. Kanak certainly pulled the wool over his eyes.. he smiled when he saw her hide her bare legs in the bedroom. But his eyes freeze and his face wears a scowl when he sees her exposed legs for all to see!! as she approaches the worship. Precap .. Suman raises the alarm has Kanak done a runner with the papers??
