TSMSPJep:24 *29.4.17:My Impressions* Mutiny , active or passive ?
Mutiny within the ranks is about challenging the system. It's a rebellion, that may be quelled and inert, or it may bold and exposed. But one thing goes without saying, is that mutiny often sounds off calls, which can be either concealed or revealed , for a revolution! A change in the existing establishment. But bear in mind, that any change brings along with it, some disruption, pain, displacement and hopelessness too. Today's episode , makes it hard for me to ignore, that I can sense a slow progression of an uprising that began with Kanak's forced marriage, rumbles away now as she is initiated into the norms of the household systematically. Understandably the whole area of marriage causes an immense revolution in one's life, as one leaves one's comfort zone and steps into an area unlived in before, generally. Kanak so far has had a raw deal and thus it's no surprise each moment, with each discovery she makes, within her the spirit of revolt is alive! and she can scream this place and all in its occupants down with her defiance!
The one thing that keeps her in line is what she now turns her back upon , Bhabo's property papers. Hence it's passive mutiny she embarks on ,and fits in with the rest of the rituals following like a robot, Maasi the woman who pulls the shots in the household. Kanak apprehends that Uma's mother may consider her plight , give her Bhabo's papers and set her free! after all every revolutionary embarks on to the path of rebellion on the basis of getting freedom!! But then freedom does not come cheap, one has to pay heavy the price.. one being, expectations may dash. Uma's mother is disabled and bedridden. One look at her tells Kanak , disabled she is in body, whereas in comparison ,all the rest including Uma Shankar, stand disabled by an unreasonable mind ,a uncompassionate heart and a dispirited soul! Silent mutiny brews up in Kanak. Can Maasa's fixed eyes pick up the tear drops of Uma's wife? Kanak prays that through the respect that flows by her finger tips she can convey her pleas and appeals to this mother figure. For once, ever since she enteredthis place ,for the very first time, Kanak's heart swells with respectful endearment, as willingly she seeks blessings from this immobilized mother. Muffled in silence, Kanak's cries of a broken heart connect with the out of action Maasa's heart. Kanak's mutiny comes to rest briefly, while an empathetic tear rolls from the outer corner of Maasa's eye as she blesses their union, by sounding the bell of approval. Kanak's face at this meeting with Maasa seems to relax in this instance. Uma seizes the opportunity to yet again serve Kanak with the reminder mixed with both spiritual and worldly references, how things have changed for her..that there is little difference between the will of god and a mother's will. With further political correctness, he simmers down the revolt he knows is prevalent within her, by telling her whilst away from her folks, consider his home and his family as her maternal home as well.. he suggests she connects to both, and glean love and blessings from both households hers ,and his.. Not getting through to Kanak, prompts a distant uprising in Vansh heart regards her safety , hence he phones her.
The ring that sounds the bugle of mutiny! and disturbs the peace in Kanak's life! The sudden ring of her mobile rudely pulls her out of the brief tender moment of temporary calm..her clutch bag with mobile in Gabbasa's unholy hands !It was Kanak's phone clearly kept in custody under his boss's instruction. to break Kanak's communication breakdown with the outside world.. if this is so? what does the mighty Uma fear, as he maintains she is his wife then why the insecurity?
Where as Uma's identity, his mighty name is reiterated again and again. Kanak resists and exercises her right to protect her identity. As information on her would lead him to catch onto her motive and more so endanger the safety of her family. She rebels rightfully at the idea of divulging important information about herself! One has the right to protect one's identity!! burning the cell phone in burning embers! Destroy's Kanak's personal data. It can also mean in orthodox terms that her own personality assimilates into her husbands. But hormonal younger sister Suman throws a tantrum! Active mutiny against Kanak's reluctance to even disclose her name! becomes, a cause of rebellion between them and Kanak. Suman sounds off! as the mouthpiece of the family's ritualistic welcome, as opposed to Kanak's downright rude behavior now epitomized by her deliberately destroying her mobile. It's obvious Suman is pro Palomi who is a mute mutineer..
Maasi intervenes to curb mutiny! But Uma allows his family to swoop over Kanak like a swarm of vicious eagles! descend upon a mouse! Kanak is warned against the ills of anger.. whether she likes it or not lord Shiva himself ordained this marriage! force was exerted due to Kanak's adamant behavior! is the justification given! Yet again her emotions take to revolt! as condescendingly Kanak is asked to accept and respect this dream come true scenario of a husband like Uma! a family like themselves! and the roof of this stately home under which she stands! Maasi stiffly reminds her. It's interesting how all, from the eldest to the youngest chastise Kanak, either by staid revolt or active mutiny! Especially the shirty Suman with her active mutiny against her sister in law who has already fallen from favour with her! just because she refuses to disclose her personal information! name and address..
But! Uma knows when to intervene ! with his passive mutiny... he decrees Kanak will share personal information when she is ready! Maasi sounds off to Palomi who stands by like a doormat.. in case she gets any ideas this marriage is defunct and she stands a chance!! well fat chance of that happening! as foresighted Uma knows not to upset the bride.. what with the nuptial night at hand.. once that happens, she will be his forever! Maasi clearly enjoys being cruel to Palomi.Maasi only sees marriage as a carnal affair, any differences between them will pass! A conquest for the husband! a union marked by following expectations! and not consummated with the joy of love, and wedlock of their very soul! it's massi's mindset ,Kanak wages her insurrection against. Saraswati's passive mutiny unleashes upon Kanak regards her identity protection, and disrespecting the bond of marriage by defying her brother of great moral stature before all! Here faith is used as a tool to accuse Kanak of defiling the sacred god of fire by throwing her mobile in it! Yet for Kanak, hardships are part and parcel of keeping her passive sedition alive within herself.
Outside Uma's room makes Kanak see herself as a facilitator like Hanuman who went against Ravan's kidnap of Sita on behalf of lord Rama..set fire to Ravan's Lanka! Likewise, her uprising is enough for Kanak to retrieve that which rightfully belongs to Bhabo!! Kanak wages Mutiny against all ritualized captivity. Panic attacks Kanak in Uma's bedroom everything is jammed.. door, window! no access to the outside world! She contains her uprising..
Maasi delays Uma from going to Kanak in his room, sums up traditional winding up the groom, further inciting him to meet his waiting bride. Cruelly maasi sounds off the newlyweds are eager to meet..this creates a silent passive mutiny in Payal..such a facility was not offered to her. Perhaps she didn't put up a stiff resistance against her parents demands? Alas! Payal threw down her arms, for her family respectability!
Palomi bothers about Uma's ablution... her silent revolt, is her childhood devotion for Uma , so much so that somehow she involves herself in Uma's business even after marriage. She silently revolts at the thought, Uma meeting Kanak is in itself, a cleansing pleasing to the gods..
Nuptial night! but it's far from Uma having easy access over his bride. His entry into the room, for her spells danger! her chastity and virtue are at stake! it's escape, a natural instinct , to save oneself from danger! sliding doors! closed doors, points to miscommunication between them, as usual a screen stays divides them! the prey and the predator! Far from a receiving husband and a giving wife! He recaps her unacceptable behavior, more veiled warnings. Yet he appeals to her to hear him out. He wants to amicably settle the uprising caused in her, with negotiations and table talk. But Kanak is aware of his way, with persuasive words.. more justified control over her! she will have to keep alive her mutiny.. chop and change it though, according to situation.
Turn the tap to stop the lectures!! But here too the mighty , know it all Uma Shankar! refers to water conservation. Mind you, to me the beast, actually shows respect towards the planets resources and throws more weight on preservation, conservation, which also includes his authority in his house.. his faith , his way of life and the rest of all about him!! The light too goes off.. as far as Kanak is concerned she is doomed! her freedom snatched in this house! set in with the dark ages! Her spirit, revolts!! rebels for freedom! freedom of expression, freedom to make choices! Freedom to retrieve that has been usurped ! and, till that does not happen. Kanak's mutiny , passive or active will go on! Hush! young one no fears ,no ,tears , no pulling back till you fulfill your goal.. hamlet53 30.4.17
Many pardons! readers.. got held up so late post of Saturday's episode.. please accept this humble recap.. it stirred me up.. can anyone see kitchen politics shaping up aboard this "mutiny on the bounty"?? well looks like it's all systems go for Kanak.. I wonder if she dresses appropriately for the mau dekhai? I would like to her to do in "Rome as Roman's do"... Come on Kanak! beti hai tu kis ke.?
* he talks about conserving water.. yet baths, in a tub of water..all to go down the plug hole.. what a contradictory man is Uma Shankar..
Erhhh , sHame faced 😳 its lengthy...
