imagine this-

Rajveer is still alive, he and Naina end things on a sour note before Naina graduates.

Rajveer becomes very careless, has a zillion affairs, gets convicted for robbery once and hence gets demoted . So hes still a Cpt

Naina, on the other hand is a very hardworking soldier, shes responsible for the capture of some deadly terrorists and hence she is promoted to a Major rank, directly.

So, basically shes promoted over Rajveer and is his senior now.
