I'm a complain girl!

Although Mouni Roy has resumed shooting for Kyunki… just two days after an operation, she complains all the time
Posted On Friday, September 07, 2007

Kavita Shyam

Mouni Roy is the latest to be at the receiving end of Balaji's unyielding attitude. The actress, who has recently undergone an operation, was asked to report to shoot for  Kyunki saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi the show just two days after her finger surgery.

At first, the actress refused to shoot for at least three weeks. Mouni had a major tiff with the creative head of the show who wanted her to report to the sets. Eventually Ekta Kapoor had to step in. She managed to convince Mouni by calling her up several times to be part of the special episode.

Our source reveals, "Mouni was eager to take a break to recuperate. These days cheat shoots are not allowed. Even though Mouni has returned, she throws tantrums and is very moody on the sets. She comes late, and show disinterest in her work. Ekta had to cajole her into shooting. She is always spotted gossiping with her co-actors, complaining all the time. "

When contacted Vikas Gupta, the creative head of the show, says, "I do not want to comment on this at all."
Mouni says, "I had to undergo a three-hour long operation as my little finger had broken while shooting. However, I was asked to work just two days after my operation. Well, I am not fussy on the sets. I don't want to make an issue of this."

Stars and their lucky charms

Are some people really luckier than others, or is it all in their heads? Or maybe is it because of the lucky charms that they keep with them. We ask some of our stars about their lucky charms and whether they think the charms have brought them luck.

Mouni Roy: Armlet

Q. Since when have you been wearing this armlet?
A. I have been wearing it a long time… can't exactly remember.

Q. Did someone tell you to wear it or did someone gift it to you?
A. Actually someone told my mom that I should be wearing this, so mom then gifted it to me.

Q. So has it really brought luck?
A. I don't know whether it is lucky for me that way. It is just there to protect me from the evil around and I think it is doing that!

New kids on the block
23 Jun, 2007 l 0000 hrs ISTlDARSHANA CHATURVEDI/TIMES NEWS NETWORK

They are famous, talented and successful. And some of them are still in college. AT talks to young actors to find out what life is like in Tellywood.
Although in their early 20s, they have everything going for them - a job that not only pays well but also ensures fame and instant recognition. Instead of bunking classes and hanging around with friends in the college canteen, they are busy shuttling from one studio to another and donning the grease paint. And yes, they are making hay while the arc lights are shining.

Do they really miss their carefree college days? Do they miss having tea with their friends and lazing around in the cafeteria? And do they dread the thought of waking up in the morning and reaching the sets on time?

"You can bunk classes but not shooting schedules. I was just out of school when I was offered the role of Bani Walia in Kasam Se. And now, I can't find time to enrol for a regular college," says 19-year-old Prachi Desai. "Nevertheless , the popularity of the serial is a dream come true for me as I always wanted to be an actor. It's a great feeling to receive so much appreciation right in the beginning of my career ," she says.

Same is the case with Mouni Roy who is better known as Krishna Tulsi. She had just completed her first year of Masters programme when she was offered the role in Kyunki.... She says, "I never gave acting a serious consideration. To be honest, I was scared of facing the camera and did not know a thing about make-up . But I just went with the flow. Today, it feels wonderful to earn my own money and lead an independent life in a city like Mumbai."

Arjun Bijlani aka Alekh from Left Right Left started his career with commercials and today he has got his share of fame in the telly world. "I lost my father when I was 18 and so I started working early. Today I am enjoying all the attention I am getting from youngsters. I was so taken aback when I was asked to give an autograph and pose for a picture for the first time."

But then there are some who have really managed to strike a balance between college and studios. As says Divyanka Tripathi, better known as Vidya of Banoo Main Teri Dulhann , "There was a time when I was shuttling between the studio and my college. It feels nice to be independent now. I have just bought my own car and it feels great." Aditya Narayan is just 19. But he has already acted in films, and is presently hosting a popular reality music show. "I had just come back from London when I was offered this show. People tell me that I am too young and should take it easy but I am happy working rather than sitting idle."

And, of course, getting all the money, fame and recognition.

Mouni Roy has been busy writing a research paper on the theatre legend for her MA degree

Before debuting as Krishna Tulsi in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Mouni Roy was doing a Master of Arts in Mass Communication at Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi.

Now in the final year of her program, Mouni is presenting a research paper on theatre legend Habib Tanvir.

Says Mouni, "I've been fascinated by Habib Tanvir as he's a pioneer in experimental theatre here.

As part of my presentation, I've studied each and every facet of his work and also interview people associated with him."

Fab experience

Studying Habib: Mouni Roy
Although she has never met him, Mouni did manage to speak with Tanvir over the phone for her research. "He was instrumental in using street plays to champion social causes.

He didn't use actors but shopkeepers, slum dwellers, and people on the road to tell his stories. Writing a thesis on him and studying his work has been a fabulous experience," she says.

Even though she hasn't set herself a deadline, Mouni plans to finish her research paper soon. "I definitely want to get my degree, but I don't have plans for higher studies at this point.

My life has changed after joining Balaji. I have not only grown as an actor but also as a person. I have finally settled in Mumbai and I'm loving it right now."

When Orkut Buyukkoten designed this interactive site, little did he know that it would turn controversial across the globe in years to come. Google stumbled over Buyukkoten's genius, and decided to take it across the borders. This has resulted in Orkut being the number one interactive and social networking site today. This open forum has been a boon for zillions to meet their old pals and make new ones, to find jobs and life partners. On the flip side, the communities section of the site proved as a ventilator for all things viable and illegitimate. Be it adverting po*n or agitating against George Bush and his Iraq war or supporting 'I hate Clubs' for the actors they dislike, the political parties and the national heroes that a section thinks are overrated.

The site made headlines this week with the extreme ethnic right protesting and damaging cyber caf's in parts of the city where most kids surf on the net (not necessarily for Orkut). But that is not the case; the fact that liberties are taken and national figures are slandered is a valid concern. The ban on Orkut will change a lot of things forever; it will curtail freedom of speech and regulate civility in the society. However it's the World Wide Web and Orkut is one of the sites, there are million others catering to the same set of people who are keen to voice their feelings. We asked our telly stars whether they think that Orkut in India has become a menace and should be banned. Is freedom of speech to another level or is the issue just blown out of proportion by the right-winged to show who has the upper hand? Here is what they had to opine:

Mouni Roy :

I think its okay to place your comments on Orkut, it's a friendly community. I have many friends on Orkut, in fact thanks to the engine I have re connected to all my old friends since kindergarten. I understand that there are offensive comments that some people post but there is also an option provided to block and report abuse that should be used. Banning Orkut won't help, if something bothers someone they can just ignore it.

Mouni Roy is a Balaji discovery and all set to take her place under the sun as the new Tulsi in 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. Mouni, who takes over the mantle of Tulsi Krishna, is a regular looking but modern girl who was pursuing a Masters in mass communications from Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia University till fate took over.

"Getting a break with Balaji was completely unexpected. I had auditioned at several places because I had to kill time during my summer vacations. As I had done theatre and street plays, I was interested in acting," she reveals. However, she admits she has never watched 'Kyunkii…' before. "I guess after being part of this industry, I've realised the hard work everyone puts in. I've finally stopped criticising the soaps," she smiles.

Incidentally, Mouni also auditioned for Balaji's new show 'Kasturi'. She points out that when she got the offer for 'Kyunkii…', she was a wee bit disappointed. "I wasn't sure whether I wanted to do the role. The show has so many stars, and I did not want to be overshadowed by them. I kept insisting for the other show," she says.

Mouni is coming to terms with the necessity to make Mumbai her home — even though her boyfriend will continue to be based in Delhi. As for stepping into the shoes of Krishna Tulsi, Mouni knows she has a long way to go. "Smriti is a great actor and she has been very sweet. I am yet to get into the skin of the character, but I'm working on it," she says.

The debutante has had very fleeting interactions with soap queen Ektaa Kapoor. "I've met her couple of times and she hasn't corrected me much — which probably means I am good," she laughs. But on a serious note she concludes, "Ektaa's asked me to enjoy less and work hard."

We the live-alones

Staying away from your family, all alone, in a busy metropolitan like Mumbai is no cakewalk. Except from the only plus, that's FREEDOM; there's a plenitude of duties hanging like a sword on a daily basis…be it cooking, cleaning, paying bills and a plethora of other chores.

We thought of enquiring with some of those actors from the TV fraternity who, along with managing their career, have been engaged in the Herculean task of managing their home all by themselves.

Mouni Roy
Staying alone is a luxury when you have the right support system and I am self-sufficient. To aid me, my dad has got me a maid from Delhi. As I have experienced a hostel life for five-six years I am capable of managing everything, from paying bills to doing other stuff. My domestic life is pretty cool.

Mouni Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hain?

Krishnatulsi (Mouni Roy) of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has been in the news of late for her allegedly flaring temper. It has been learnt that recently she burnt up tissues in her make-up room. Reason? Her shot got delayed for eleven hours despite being fully prepared because of some technical problems.

However, she tried to rectify the situation by explaining the incident. "The tissues got burnt accidentally and it was a script that caught fire", she said.

But that's not all. Mouni is also said to have picked up a fight with her dress man, who is now refusing to come on sets as he is very upset. However Mouni denies that anything of that sort happened. "Nothing of that sort happened. I'm right here on the sets and I don't know who is spreading these rumours. Everyone from the make-up man to the dress man is present. If you want to find out the truth, you can visit the set."

Pulkit Samrat, who is playing Lakshya, also had something similar to say. "Everything is fine. If really such a thing would have happened, then I would have come to know about it. As far as I know this is not true."

The story in Kyunki currently revolves around Krishnatulsi who gets raped during Holi and is under great stress. She even tries to commit suicide but Lakshya, her on screen fianc, rescues her.

Pulkit Samrat
[8 Jun 2007]

"I ALWAYS WANTED HEADS TO TURN WHEN I WALKED DOWN A STREET"

This would have qualified as one of my few personal encounters with a 'boy' (as my mum calls them). More so, had I told her that morning who I was to interview, she would have made it difficult for me to leave home on time – not before the never-ending list of unrelenting enquiries (punctuated by aahs and oohs!) and the unreasonable insistence that I take her along! Hell, that night she asked me, incredulously and full of motherly love (no no, not for me but for her beloved Lakshya from Kyunki…), "So was he sitting in front of you or by your side at the coffee shop?" Hmmm!

I had half a mind of teasing her by saying something scandalous but I managed a smile. Well, that's the effect Pulkit Samrat — television's new dreamboat — has on everyone. From 'Miss'es to Moms, he's everyone's darling!

Originally from New Delhi, Pulkit came to Mumbai in 2004 at the ambitious age of 20. "I wanted to become an actor since my childhood. Since the time that I have been in my senses, I have always wanted to act," he says. An easy decision made early on, then pursued the hard way. "I reached Mumbai on 17th October, 2004, the big day." A sign-up with Elite Modelling Agency landed him his first TV commercial with Asian Paints "wherein I just had to smile." The venue being Film City, he reminisces over how he had always heard about on-the-sets Bollywood stories. "It was great standing there, amidst all the drama and for the first time, facing the camera."

And how did his family react to him joining the world of glamour? "My mother was always supportive but my dad was a little apprehensive," he states. Not without reason, since Pulkit comes from a medical background, and was all set for an Engineering career and then a degree in Advertising. "I didn't take any formal training in acting because I just didn't have the money to pay the fees at a well-known acting institute. But after my first commercial happened, there was no looking back. Instead of coming to Mumbai, I'd like to say that Mumbai called me," he smiles.

But life for the young aspirant wasn't without its share of ups and downs. Earlier in 2005, Pulkit was to feature in Mahesh Goswami's much-hyped show Sixxer, scripted by Shobhaa De, but unfortunately it turned into a sour episode. As he recalls, "I was very frustrated that entire year. It was a cricket-based serial so we had put in three months of cricket practice and shot about four-five episodes. But due to some problems with the channel and the production house, the serial did not take off. For almost a year, there were complications and disrupted shooting schedules.

After waiting impatiently for months on end, I started getting restless. So much so that in that one year, I must have flown Mumbai-Delhi around 15-20 times! I'm a very homesick person. I cannot stay away from my home. I could not plan a vacation with my family and most of all, they (the production house) always called me back to Mumbai and never started work." His father had given him a year's time to make a mark. "He told me, 'If things don't work within that period, come back home.' And I was getting scared because the year was coming to an end."

The show eventually never took off but fortunately or not, around then, he was offered another soap, Ek Radha Ek Shyam. Pulkit reveals, "I had a minor argument with the director (Vijay Pandey of Sixxer) regarding this issue. I was in an exclusive contract with him. The objection from his end was that he wanted to launch me. I told him that I would keep him as my priority and would give him dates as and when he needed me. But unwillingly, I had to leave Ek Radha…" That was the worst blow for him. "Where do I go from here was the question," he reminisces.

And then, Lady Luck smiled on him at the most unexpected moment and he got a call from Balaji. "I remember that day very clearly…it was the 1st of June," he smiles. "I was called to Mumbai and the look for the character of Lakshya was being finalised. I went to Balaji House for a small screen test. Ekta came in and said, 'We've got our Lakshya.' They had been looking for an actor to play this character for four-five months. There was a great deal of curiosity and anxiety as to who would play the part, as the scheduled telecast was due soon. The celebration that followed was crazy with the entire Balaji cast present. Then on, we shot day and night and I had no complaints. This is what I always wanted. It was fun!"

It was a great entry too! With him waltzing on the screen to the tune of the title song of the movie Kisna, all in typical Ekta (Kapoor) style, with the camera moving slowly upward to reveal his identity to the gaping viewers! "That was the day I realized that all that struggle, frustration and dejection for the last two years were for a purpose; it all happened just so that I didn't lose hope."

There was no looking back after that. As Lakshya, he charmed the entire nation and became the hottest dreamboat on television. Did he expect his character to create such a huge impact? Despondently, yet in a manner of utter acceptance, he states, "The whole sweetness, the smartness and the charm…it's something I can't do much about. But I love it all. I have always wanted heads to turn when I walked down a street. I have always waited to be recognized and to be appreciated for my work. Now that it is happening, I don't want to shy away from it all."

Still, he's not come to terms with some of the realities of a daily soap. As he puts it, "At times, they are writing the script while I am getting ready for the shot; it is that bad. But the atmosphere on the sets is great. I am working with the best team of actors, directors, technicians…all of whom are helpful to the point of bringing out the best in me. I would not be half of what I am today if it wasn't for them."

But television is not his destination – Pulkit has bigger plans up his sleeve. "Right now, television is just a way to learn and move ahead. Eventually, I want to enter the film industry. There were times when I was screaming and whining to my friends that this is not my best; that I can do much better. I have always trained myself in accordance to films, never to TV. I need to work on a character, to get a feel of it, which you can't do on TV. I still try to do my best but this is not my best," he explains. So it's Bollywood calling for Pulkit Samrat. All you Lakshya fans out there enjoy him while he lasts on the small screen.

Pulkit Samrat at your fingertips

Pulkit Samrat, Lakshya of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, has recently updated his website www.pulkitsamrat.com with various added attractions and information for his fans.

An excited Pulkit says, "I had launched this site a year back when I joined Kyunki. That time, it was in the primary stages but I have just modified it."

Speaking more about the site, he says, "The main motive behind launching the site was to get in touch with my fans. It contains lots of information and pictures of mine. It provides them the platform to give suggestions and their views to me. There is a special team that always updates the site and takes care of my forums and its designing, Subi Samuel, Rahul Dutta and my good friend Vishesh. There are also sections like media and press where my interviews and exclusive information about me is available."

On the further additions to the site, he says, "Soon we are going to launch a chat room, where I will be available for chat as many times as possible. We will advertise and put link for it one week before. Further, more wallpapers of mine will be available for download and some for mobiles as well. A contest section, which is yet to be launched, will have questions about me being asked to the fans. The winners will get prizes like mugs and T-shirts signed by me. Thanks to this site, whenever my fans will feel like talking to me they can mail me. They can also post suggestions and join forums, which will be read by me."

Is he net savvy? "Yes I always been and I generally like visiting indya.com and India-forums.com. Soon I am going to announce that I am not a member of any community. One person is using my fake ID on orkut. I have never been to orkut, I don't even have any account there."

How has been the response from the fans? "As of now, it has been great. Some of them told me that it's a very trendy, well designed site and others told me, it's the best site of any actor they have ever visited."

Does he try and reply to the fan mails? "I try but sometimes I can't do it because of my shootings. I get fan mails from Pakistan, US, Canada and from various other places."

Pulkit has won three awards this year. He entered Kyunki last year and has now become the heartthrob of females

Pulkit Samrat's rocking party

To celebrate his win at the STAR Pariwar awards, Pulkit Samrat threw a special party for all his co-stars and close friends yesterday at Kino's Cottage, Andheri.

Pulkit was busy taking care of every arrangement before leaving the venue to get changed for the colour coded party- girls in pink and boys in blue.

The bash started post 11 when guests started arriving. Manav Vij was the first to arrive and quickly got changed into a blue checked shirt to keep with the theme. Reshmi Ghosh and her boyfriend Amit Gupta followed Manav's entrance and the couple kept close together by cozying up on the seating near the beach.

An excited Pulkit said, "It's great to receive such an award and I want to thank all my fans who appreciate my role as Lakshya. My family, who stays in Delhi, is very happy for my success."

As the night wore on the party went into full throttle with guests pouring in bringing with them congratulatory gifts and bouquets. Ronit Roy came in with Vivek Musra. Roy was not pleased at the attention he got from the press who crowded around him and caused a scene. Also seen at the party were Ritu Choudhry (Shoba) and Shilpa Saklani (Ganga). Ekta Kapoor strolled in with Akash Deep Saigal at 2:30 AM. Ashwini Kalsekar and her boy friend, Murli Sharma, chose to ignore the dress code but excused themselves as being "too aged" for it to worry about their clothes.

Dwell upon dreams

Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives.' Charles Dement's famous words couldn't be truer. During this nocturnal activity our sub-conscious trespasses boundaries which with an open eye one can't.

There are lots of mysteries to be unraveled about our sleeping state. There is a connotation to events and components of our dreams which sheds light on the deeper aspects of our life.

We interpret the recurring dreams of a few TV celebs with the diagnosis of Dr. Kajol, a well-known Dream Analyst
.

Pulkit Samrat: I dream of jumping from one building to another
Analysis:
It shows that he will succeed in every endeavor. It also signifies a long life, with explorations of distant countries. He will overcome obstacles with a bit of exertion which will finally lead him to his goals.
But I caution him to take care of his health.

"I take hours and hours to dress up..."

He is the new light eyed boy of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The infusion of fresh fraces with the third generation has brought to spotlight the character of Kisna aka Pulkit Samrat. This Delhite has become quite a rave amidst the viewers. While the girls find him an intense, cute boy-next-door, the elderly see an ideal, obedient son in him. Pulkit is very much like his onscreen character, level headed, simple and loves to dress up without going over board. In a chat with Sameera Kapoor, he shares his fashion fundas....

"I am not at all fashion conscious".

Kisna Versus Pulkit....
There is no great difference in their sense of dressing. Like Kisna, I love wearing long sleeved tees or shirts. Except for the fact that I prefer shirts over tees. I keep buying shirts from all places.

Being in vogue means.....
I am not at all fashion conscious. First of all tell me who decides what is in and out? The entire thing is not only funny but out of my understanding. But I can define the term if you want to; being in sync with the ongoing trends (laughs).

No no trends.....
I don't like wearing baggy, loose, low waist jeans, nor do I prefer torn jeans. Comfort rules my dressing. Anything I wear should be neatly pressed, fit well and look smart; in short enhance my look.

My fav pick....
A well-fitted denim with a white, full sleeved shirt, neatly tucked in. (a tucked out shirt makes me look short. My wardrobe essentials are my denim, basic shirts in black and white, classy suits and ethinic wear. I'm also into stocking shoes and watches.

Brands are....
Not at all necessary. I buy anything from anywhere. Anyways nobody bothers about a brand as long as a particular dress looks good.

Favourite shopping spots....
Though I am Delhite, I am well versed with Mumbai. Here, I love shopping at Bandra boutiques. For shirts, I prefer showrooms like Be and Expree. They have a neat collection! Besides I also frequent the Lokandawala market often.

Time needed to garb up...
Off sets, I take hours and hours to dress up, because I'm quite indecisive. I conduct many trials before I get nto my final outfit. On sets, my dress manager comes to my rescue and thanks to him, I take barely ten minutes.

"I hate artifical, made-up attitudes. ".

Indian or Western .....
Though I look equally good in both, I prefer western wear.

Fetish for......
I love stocking cool shades and watches.

Indian Fashion is......
For ladies, it has to be a sari and for men, a sherwani and a pathani. If I had to pick one, I would say a pathani.

My cheapest buy.....
I bought glares from a local market for just Rs.250/-.

Most stylish person in tellydom…
Rakshanda Khan fits the bill. I believe she is high on style quotient. She carries herself with great elegance and poise in any dress that she wears.

Pulkit is....
I am a simple person, very much like my on screen character, Kisna. I seek and like simplicity in others. I hate artifical, made-up attitudes.

Pulkit Samrat for the first time speaks about the lady in his life

DEEPALI DHINGRA

Contrary to what is shown on TV, at times the cackling chemistry
between an on screen couple may be quite thanda off-screen. If
Lakshya is able to look at Krishna Tulsi with eyes full of love,
then you probably are not aware that in real life, Pulkit Samrat and
Mouni Roy don't exactly share the best vibes off-screen. Ask Pulkit
about this and he admits to the rumour. "Yes, we don't gel very well
and I don't know why. We greet each other cordially and then get on
with our work," he says. But Pulkit adds that it's not that they
fight or anything of that sort. "It's just that some people click
with you better than others and Mouni is not one of them," he adds.
So who is he friendly with on the sets of the show? "There are
mainly three people who I gel with and that's Manav, Amit Tandon and
Resshmi Ghosh. From the older generation, I treat Baa like my
girlfriend! Rakshanda Khan's a sweetheart and Mihir dadu is the one
I go to when I need some advice," he candidly informs.
The lad from Delhi, who came to Mumbai with dreams of becoming an
actor, is quite happy with the way his career is progressing. "I've
wanted to become an actor ever since I can remember. So to fulfil my
dream, I joined a modelling agency and I came to Mumbai to shoot for
a commercial," he recalls. And although he was selected for the lead
role in a show called Sixer, it didn't take off and Pulkit landed
himself Lakshya's role in Kyunki... Wasn't he afraid of losing
himself in a show which has so many characters? "I always knew it's
going to be Tulsi's show because it's her story. But when I heard
the narration, I knew that Lakshya would be an important part of the
show and that's how it's been," says the blue-eyed actor.
And although the next step is films, Pulkit says that he's
thoroughly focussed on Kyunki... for the moment. "It's a good start
for me and I want to give it my best," he says. Unlike other actors
who clam up when it comes to their personal life, Pulkit has no
problems admitting that there's somebody waiting back in Delhi for
him. "But I won't give you her name!" he laughs before
adding, "She's not insecure at all. She loves it when girls fall for
me!"

In conversation with Pulkit Samrat, winner of Sixth Indian Telly Awards 'Best Fresh New Face (Male)'

What is holistic healing for you?

One has to witness the miracles of life to believe in Holistic healing. There was a time when I did not believe in it the positive effects it had on my mother made me rethink. I think holistic streams like Reiki are the best gift God has given us to heal ourselves and the universe around us.

Do you believe in God and Divine?

Oh definitely, I believe in God and the Divine. There are three powers that are always with me God, my cousin and my grandfather who are always with me. When I need help, all I need to do is close my eyes and ask them for help. Till date they have never let me down. When ever I don't have a shoulder to cry on I just look up to them. I don't believe in idol worship but I believe if you have the feelings in your heart you can pray. A form is definitely important as a starting point but eventually it has to reside in your heart as an image. I like going to the Gudwara.

Mantra for positive energy

Sincerity in the heart is the root of positivity. I think it is connected to the concept of purity. Positive people emit the kind of vibes which makes others spend more time with them.

What is love for you?

You can't define love! It is different for everybody. If I were to make an attempt to describe such a pure emotion, I would call it a bridge between two hearts from which thoughts go from one person to the other. It is this emotion that makes two people share the feelings with each other without resorting to words.

What is the difference between friendship and love?

Friendship for me is meeting your twin mates while love is meeting your soul mate.

What is trust?

Trust is the unspoken code of humanity. When there is trust one need not speak about it and when people speak too much about it you can be sure that it is not there.

What does spirituality mean to you?

Spirituality is awareness about our own self and the world around us. Our spirituality is directly proportionate to our awareness. Meditation is a very important tool to calm our self. The object of your meditation is secondary as long as you can channel your senses to silent your mind.

What is intuition?

Intuition is related to third eye. The third eye is the source of our awareness.

Comment on today's women

I don't see much difference between the women of yesteryears as every era sees a blend of traditional values rooted in modern progression. It is just that the current environment is more suited to explore their energy and scale newer heights.

How do you accept changes in your life?

Everyone knows that change is the only constant yet it is difficult to accept the change at times. It is in such scenarios that one has to have faith in God and your spiritual guides to help you accept the changes with a positive frame of mind.

Do you believe in life after death?

Yes I do believe in life after death. I use to communicate with my cousin through a coin. I stopped talking to him because I didn't want to trouble him in his life after his death.

What is your motto of success?

Learn from your past, live in the moment and you will get the results tomorrow. Just work hard today.

Reena Thapar Kapoor

The 23-year-old Pulkit Samrat aka Lakshya Virani is the current heartthrob on television. When he came to Mumbai from Delhi, a few months ago, he didn't know what destiny had in store for him. For Pulkit, everything's new – new city, new career, a new show and, of course, new-found stardom. As we catch him chilling out at his 1-BHK Kandivli flat, the Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi star assures us that his best is yet to come...
THE MAGIC MANTRA
That he is a magician is no news. Pulkit has been rehearsing and practicing magic tricks with cards since his school days. "I've read books from the USA, Egypt, China etc. on the subject. This kind of magic freaks out people completely," he says. When he's not shooting, Pulkit is busy watching films. Despite being a hit on television, Pulkit still harbours dreams of making a career in films. "But as of now I'm not even thinking about quitting television," he says. Pulkit couldn't have asked for a better launch than Kyunki… "It's a dream role," he smiles.
NEED FOR SPEED
Talking about popularity, Pulkit was always the stud in his school and college. "I never intentionally worked on being popular," he shrugs. "But, I was very popular with the girls." Needless to say, the scene continues to be the same now. Pulkit may have moved bag and baggage to Mumbai, but Delhi is where his heart belongs. "The only time I come to my apartment is when I have to sleep," he says. "I'd rather hang out with my friends than go home." His latest possession, a red Skoda is what keeps him going. "It's my dream car," says Pukit, who doesn't feel comfortable in small cars.
JUGGLING ACT
Being a true blue Punjabi, Pulkit is fond of food but cooking is a strict no-no for him. However, recently, his mom has taught him to prepare parathas and dal-rice. "I've a person who cooks food and takes care of my house. He accompanies me to my shoots as well," he says. Living in a joint family, Pulkit was pampered a lot but when the responsibility of running a house fell on his shoulders he became nervous. "My mother had to come to Mumbai to help me set up my place and train me to be on my own. Otherwise, I would have been completely lost," he confesses. Pulkit is dating a girl from Delhi but refuses to talk about her.
BEING IN THE NEWS
The actor has been living in Mumbai for the past two years. "But I haven't had the chance to see all its famous places, for instance, Haji Ali, Essel World and several malls," he says. But Pulkit is far from complaining. His role in Kyunki… is being appreciated and that's what matters to him most. He is a doting elder brother, Pulkit says, "I completely adore my younger brother Ullas. This year he will appear for his HSC exams and I want him to score well." Regarding his popularity with girls, Pulkit says that he doesn't feel embarrassed by all the attention he gets from women. "I'm struggling for it. So why should I act modest?" he says. Point taken.
MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL
The young actor aspires to be a director one day. "I want to make a film that will showcase my work as a magician. I hope I find someone to produce it," he says. Pulkit feels that in India the concept of magic is largely about rabbits popping out of hats. "It's annoying. Magic is also a detailed study and I hope people care to know more about it," he says. As for his house, he likes to keep it simple. "I live alone and there is no time to manage furniture and artefacts. Mine is a typical bachelor's apartment." When asked if he likes Mumbai, he answers, "I was told that in Mumbai dreams come true and I can't disagree." Well said!

Are Krishna Tulsi and Lakshya dating?

Reena Thapar Kapoor

We are just good friends…," say Mouni Roy aka Krishna Tulsi and Pulkit Samrat aka Lakshya of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. But according to the grapevine Pulkit and Mouni have been seeing each other for some time. The duo has often been spotted together at various restaurants and night clubs. Says Pulkit, "Yes, Mouni and I went out for dinner a couple of times. But that doesn't mean we're having an affair. Mouni is a great friend and I'm really fond of her. Our friendship is being misconstrued as an affair."

The buzz started when the two were spotted getting too close for comfort at producer Ekta Kapoor's party. Says Mouni, "I'm very comfortable working with Pulkit. I'm at ease when he is around. Trust me, I couldn't have asked for a better co-star. However, just because people have seen us together, doesn't mean that we are in love." Mouni accepts that link-ups are inevitable in any actor's life. "It's a package deal that comes with fame," she says.

Pulkit Samrat is hounded by a fan

Fan-struck!

Ranjib Mazumder

Pulkit Samrat aka Lakshya Virani of Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has invited a problem that tells the tale of his growing popularity. The actor is having a harrowing time pacifying his fans, especially an obsessive female fan.

"Her name is Shruti and she is from Delhi. It is not that I don't enjoy talking to my fans. It gives me a high. But this girl keeps calling me throughout the day and sometimes, I get her calls till midnight. It is because of her that I have become apprehensive of taking calls any call these days. And she makes it a point to call from various numbers, and I often fail to keep a track" says Pulkit.

When quizzed if the actor had given her his number, Pulkit says, "I don't know how she managed to get my number. I spoke to her twice. But she has been calling me non-stop. I hope she understands that I have some work to do as well."

While the Balaji brigade, danced at the recent bash hosted by producer Ektaa Kapoor to celebrate the new generation launch of 'Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', actor Pulkit Samrat sat away from the madding crowd.

When quizzed Pulkit who plays Lakshya in the 20-year leap explained, "I love dancing. I have trained in kathak, folk and tandav nritya. I have even performed break dance. But I am suffering from slip disc and have a nagging pain." He continued, "I would have loved to dance with my co-stars (Mouni Roy, Reshmi Ghosh, Amita Chandekar). I don't want to aggravate my condition." Nevertheless, the ailment could not prevent the committed actor from shooting action sequences in the show.

Pulkit continued, "I am thrilled with the response that I have got for playing Lakshya. I'm grateful to Ektaaji for making me hot property overnight." Already being hailed by fans as the small-screen's answer to Emran Hashmi and Shahid Kapoor, the star-aspirant confesses, "I would be lying if I said that am content doing only TV. Of course it's the best medium to expose your talent. But doing meaningful films is my main aim. Also, some day I would like to play a psychic," he shrugs

Pulkit Samrat plays the male lead in Kyunki..., post-leap. The actor tells us how he landed the role, and mo

How was life before Kyunki…?

I used to live in Delhi before I came to Mumbai. I lived like any other collegian, appeared for entrance tests, exams and so on. I was trying for a career in IT but it didn't work out. Instead, I ended up doing a course in advertising. But, I couldn't complete my degree. I intend to complete my graduation sooner or later.

How did you shift from advertising to acting?

I've always been passionate about acting. I performed in several plays at school and college. Although., I studied advertising, I never worked in the industry. I was searching for avenues to .act. So, I came to Mumbai two years ago and attended Kishore Namit Kapoor's acting institute. I also attended Barry John's theatre workshop.

How did you bag a role in Kyunki… ?

I was first scheduled to play the lead role in Manish Goswami's Sixxerr. But I didn't hear from the production house and I didn't know the current status of the serial. In the mean time, I auditioned for Kyunki… and got the role.

How do you like Mumbai, considering you've lived in Delhi all along?

Mumbai is a nice city. It's a truly happening and friendly city.

Were you nervous on the first day of the shoot?

A little, yes. But, it was also a lot of fun. I try and learn from my co-stars and from my own mistakes too.

You are playing the lead in a popular serial. What's next?

I am looking at acting in films. But I think, I'll do TV for now, as the medium offers a great platform.

Who are your friends in the industry?

Well, Big B and SRK (laughs)! Actually my co-stars are my good friends.

Do you watch television?

Not really. I am a movie buff. I watch K-serials on and off; as long as the track interests me.

Do you have anyone special in your life?

Yes, I have a girlfriend in Delhi. However, I wonder how I will manage to keep in touch with her now that the show has started.

Post the generation leap, for the second time in this Balaji show on Star, Smriti Z Iraani becomes the Ba with Moni being a mirror image of Tulsi.

Producer Ekta Kapoor zeroed in on Moni, a fresher, after an audition throughout the country for this role. This youngster who turned up for the audition just for a lark tell us about herself…
How did Kyunki happen?
I had gone with some friends jst on a lark for the audition. On May 7; I got a call from Balaji for the look test. They said that Ekta had finalised me for another show of her — Kasturi. I flew down to Mumbai on May 9 and went back the same evening. Later. I was told that I was doing Kyunki. Would you believe that I told Balaji that I wanted to do Kasturi and not Kyunki? Now of course, I have realised that what a big and nice role I have got.
Are you still studying?
I have done my English Honours. I was doing my Masters in Mass Communication. I was staying in Delhi as a PG. My parents are in Cooch, Bihar. I wanted to do so many things in life — theatre, choreography, and puppetry. Acting was certainly one option, but I hadn't even dreamt that I would enter Balaji and get such an important role.
Any parental objections to you shifting base?
There were a few apprehensions. Mumbai is a different city. Plus, I had settled down in Delhi very well.
Are you anything like your character?
I am not exactly like Krishna Tulsi. Yes, I have my ethics and morals in place. But unlike Krishna Tulsi, I wear every kind of outfit in real life. I wear jeans, skirts, almost everything. I like going to a discotheque. I am a modern girl of 2006.
How much of Kyunki had you seen before?
Not much. I saw bits and pieces of it when I used to visit my parents.
How was shooting your first scene?
I shot my first scene with Smriti Iraani and she really put me at ease. Smriti is an awesome performer. I get goose flesh when I do scenes with her. I am not intimidated by senior actors, but I admit that I am very, very, nervous.
Are you comfortable in front of the camera?
I am okay with the lines, but I find it difficult to smile in front of the camera. I am getting it now, though.
Have you made friends on the Kyunki set?
I get along fabulously with the younger lot who entered the serial with me. Elders ke saath jyaada baat-cheet nahin hui hai. That free talk with them will happen with time. They give us lot of space and comfort, which is necessary to grow.
Where do you stay?
I have put up in Meera Apartments (the same building as Surveen Chawla and Koena Mitra). Let's see. Nothing is pucca where I'll be staying tomorrow. It's early days yet.
Are you single?
No. I have a boyfriend. He is in Delhi. He is not from the industry. I will not disclose his identity. Let my private life remain private.

Mouni Roy, aka Krishna Tulsi of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, shares some of the most important experiences of her life.

Day at school: I don't remember my first day. I was too young.

Day at college: I was scared, reluctant and nervous. I came from a small town called Coochbehar in West Bengal and when I was going to Delhi I got 20 salwar kameez made. The college I went to was called Miranda House and it was this really happening place. I was 16 and went there with my dad on the first day and saw all these girls in backless tops and short skirts! It was a big culture shock.

Job: Many people don't know this but I did a song for a movie Run with Abhishek Bachchan. I shot for 4 days.

Salary: It was for the same song sequence. I got 8000 rupees for a four day shoot.

Autograph: When I was shooting in Hyderabad the people did not even know who I was. But Indian audiences are so hooked on the idea of lights, make-up and cameras that they came to click pictures and take autographs. They didn't even recognise me!

Time in front of a camera: It was horrible and bad! I felt as if the camera was going to come and eat me up! My first shot was with Smriti Irani and she was just brilliant. There is a shot where Krishna Tulsi is a baby and she is floating in the water. Smriti was there playing with the child and laughing. As soon as the cameras started rolling she was able to break into tears in a second. I was very nervous because I didn't know anything, there were many people standing around and I was unaware of how everything functioned. Luckily it turned out to be all good.

Crush: Salman Khan

Date: I don't want to name him. It's of no importance

Kiss: Let me put it this way...it sent shivers down me!

Big purchase: I've not bought anything big really

Fight: I've always had my biggest fights with my parents and no other fights can compete with them. I'm the sort of person who doesn't like to be told what to do. If you ask me to walk right I will walk left so that always got me into arguments with my mom and dad.

  • When Orkut Buyukkoten designed this interactive site, little did he know that it would turn controversial across the globe in years to come.

    Moni Roy :

I think its okay to place your comments on Orkut, it's a friendly community. I have many friends on Orkut, in fact thanks to the engine I have re connected to all my old friends since kindergarten. I understand that there are offensive comments that some people post but there is also an option provided to block and report abuse that should be used. Banning Orkut won't help, if something bothers someone they can just ignore it.

His innocent eyes are likely to intoxicate the prettiest damsels. But scratch the surface and what comes up is a real prankster. Pulkit Samrat aka Lakshya of Kyun Ki Saas bhi… fame confesses to being one.

Pulkit says, "A lot of people say that I'm a very shareef (innocent) guy but I'm not. I'm the one who plays pranks. For instance, Balaji has imposed a fine of Rs.500 for those who don't put their mobile phones on silent mode. If ever the phone rings whilst the shoot is on then he/she has to shell out a fine of Rs.500 or distribute sweets of equivalent value."

He adds further, "I pick up my colleagues' mobiles from their make-up guys and then put it on general mode. Then I give a missed call from my own cell and take Rs 500 from them and feast on sweets."

So, hasn't he been caught yet? Pulkit replies "Yes I have but they are happy to treat me. We make sure that no one misses out on the 'fine'."

Pulkit has been a part of Kyunki for some time. In this period, Smriti Irani-Malhotra was replaced by Gautami Kapoor as Tulsi. So, which Tulsi does Pulkit find better to work with?

"Both of them have been equally good. Smriti was part of the show for seven years. Thus Gautami's task was to break the image of Smriti as Tulsi. However, without breaking anything, Gautami has added a new dimension to the character and she's been accepted by all," says Pulkit diplomatically.

The actor may refuse to compare the two but he doesn't hesitate in saying that he has a lot of fun with Gautami. Says he, "Smriti always had a tight schedule, thus I never got much time to chill with her. However, I enjoy myself a lot with Gautami. Her hubby Ram Kapoor is also a dear friend of mine."

One thing is clear. It's easy for Pulkit to play pranks on Gautami, but not on her predecessor

Ekta Kapoor is furious with Pulkit Samrat.  And when Ekta's angry, Pulkit had better watch out.

Pulkit Samrat's stardom came via Ekta Kapoor's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, where he plays Lakshya. But now Pulkit is set to quit Kyunki… and has signed for a new
reality show, Say Shaava Shaava, for NDTV Imagine (by Contiloe Films), without fulfilling his commitments as per his contract with Balaji Telefilms. According to the contract, an actor has to complete a certain number of episodes and/or give prior notice to the producer in case he/she wants to quit the show.

Ekta Kapoor is angry with the
actor for committing breach of contract. She has now filed a case against him. Co-actor Mouni Roy, who is also a participant in the new show, had taken permission from the production house before signing on the show.

Says a source, "Pulkit has got a brilliant platform and a prominent role in Kyunki… as Lakshya. He should have taken permission from Ekta before signing the new show. He has been wanting to leave Kyunki… and even before he fulfilled his commitment to the show, he has signed a new show without informing Balaji. He is also set to pursue a career in
films soon. The production house is obviously very upset with him."

When we spoke to the legal manager of Balaji, Sandeep Singh Sandhu, he confirmed that Balaji had indeed slapped a suit against Pulkit. He says, "Pulkit didn't give us a prior notice before signing the new project. So we are going to the High Court and filing a case against him. We will restrain him from working with any other production house outside of Balaji for the days he is committed to us."

    Pulkit Samrat

Lashing out at the actor's couldn't-care-less attitude towards the production house, Sandeep says, "Before Pulkit, Salil Ankola was also dragged to court for breach of contract. Those who have abruptly broken their contract have to pay the price for it. If this practice continues, the industry will become chaotic place to work in. Actors have to maintain the sanctity of the agreements that they sign with production houses. "

Adds Sandeep, "Pulkit is aware that we are filing a case against him. He has not replied to our notices and calls, not is he attending the shooting now. He has just disappeared. Because of this breach of contract the production house has suffered huge financial losses. Pulkit has got better offers in terms of remuneration and he has used the dates he had blocked for us, for some other show."

However, Pulkit has a different story to tell and terms this entire episode as 'stupid'. He says, "Ekta treats me like a younger brother, why would she do something so stupid like this? She has a lot of work to do, and I'm sure she'd rather concentrate on it instead of wasting time on such stupid things. She herself told me that she would be the happiest person if I did good shows."

    Kyunki KT's not needed

Krishna Tulsi or KT (Mouni Roy), foster daughter of Tulsi was at one time a shadow of Tulsi but now her role is no longer significant in Kyunki. We asked the writer Anil Nagpal why her role has taken a backseat.

He says, "I write according to the response I get from fan mails. Viewers sent their feedback to us and we get to know what they want. So it's not a personal choice. Mouni's character came into prominence during her rape and she had done a marvellous job then. But the show is for the audience and not for the personal growth of any actor."
Any chance of her having a role in solving Trupti's murder case? "No she is too small for that. It will be Tulsi's bahu Ganga who will be back from London and help her in solving the case. The track is very serious so it will revolve around the elder generation."

About the track, Anil says, "There will be a huge drama this Christmas as Parvati will enter the Virani family and bring with along with her a lot of happiness. So there are exciting times in store."

But even as the Viranis celebrate Christmas, it seems like KT will continue to be ignored.
