Complaints regarding dialogues in Adipurush.

I want to say I'm not defending this film which most likely is crap even if I haven't watched it and never going to.

I just want to address the complaints regarding the dialogues used in the film. Dialogues which are taken from memes and has a modern dialect. Dialogues like "Jali na", "Tere baap ki jalegi", "Tere bua ka bageecha hain kya" etc., they all sound stupid. I'm not defending that either. They are crap.

But I'm seeing people taking offense over these dialogues. Why so? I know makers promoted this movie as Ramayan. And they need to be bashed for their claims. But its obvious that its not really really Ramayan.

Prabhas character is named Raghav, Kriti's character is named Janaki, Saif's character is named Lankesh. "Laxman" is called Sheshnag and "Hanuman" is actually called Bajrang in the movie. I know the names used in the movie are other names of Ram, Sita, Ravan etc. But they are not the actual names used in the epic, which means this movie was not supposed to actually be Ramayan.

This movie is just based on Ramayan with its characters representing Ram, Sita, Laxman etc. Then even if the dialogues are not authentic, then what's wrong in it? Hindus are saying people of that era didn't talk like that. Well people of that era didn't talk in Hindi at all. Om Raut would have had to make the movie in Sanskrit for it to have authentic dialogues.

You guys must have watched the movie Return Of Hanuman. In that movie they show Hindu Gods talking in modern lingo using English words and using modern equipments. I wonder if that movie would also have been cancelled if it came out today.

I think this movie would have recieved far less bashing if the makers had made it clear that this movie is just based on Ramayan, and not a direct adaptation of the epic. But then obviously it would have recieved far less hype as well. They fooled the audience claiming its Ramayan, even though from the teaser itself it was clear they have made something which is far from Ramayan.

The problem is the disconnect between what was promised and the final product. The promise was a spectacular presentation of Ramayana with reverence.

I don't think people mind modern lingo or technology to retell mythological stories, but the movie apparently swings between various genres and approaches.

People have even accepted parodies and satires of epics if they were told what it was going to be.

I haven't seen this (neither will I ever) so I can't comment on Adipurush. But generally, there is a certain internal consistency that is needed for world-building. If the dialogue feels modern in sentence structure or uses slang, it breaks the immersion of a period/fantasy film. That is the main strength of Bhansali imo. The story may not be there, but the world usually feels very complete.

if it's not 'Ramayan' why would they leave a seat for Hanuman ji in the theatres? it's only after the backlash that these guys are now saying oh we are inspired by 'Ramayan'. How convenient.

There are limits to creative liberties also.

No one knows what people of that era talked or looked like.

But it will have backlash if makers show gods using totally street side lingo like jalegi tere baap ki.

Ravana is a Shiva devotee and a scholar. He was a villain and not ideal but to show him using words like jali na is wannabe and makes it seem like makers are competing with web series and are too desperate to get attention of youth hooked to Netflix or just lifted language from memes.

They thought it would be cool but it backfired.

Or maybe they had no faith that audience of today will like Ramayana or anything based on it. So they used all tricks to get attention.

It may be tempting to interpret Ramayana own way but religious sentiments get hurt and Indians are still big on religion and faith and do not tolerate liberties beyond a certain limit. They like sanctity or element of respect or maryada to be there.

This is what I love the most. 🤣

BJP leaders okayed it and govt censor board cleared it.

Sanghis blaming Bollywood forgot their leaders are themselves involved in green signal to this film.

I love the meltdown online
