Yes in context of period films, Indic fantasies and mythology the comparison makes total sense. Trailer of PS1 is also amazing. Never seen something like it from BW in decade or so atleast in this genre.

Kesri was good enough in this genre from bollywood. All these comparison debates are now boring.

Sorry. Kesri is nothing great and nowhere on level of South made period films.

It was also nothing to glorify sepoys fighting for British army.

Bollywood is always messing period films also with mere love stories as Bhansali mangled Bajirao and Padmavat.

Or Gowariker reduced Akbar to mere lover boy.

Or Asoka reduced Emperor Ashoka to mere lover boy.

In contrast the period fantasies like Bahubali hardly make only love story the prime focus of the film.

BW is obsessed with showcasing only stars and making love stories prime focus of film.

Kesri is ZERO compared to any period film even made by BW, forget South.

Anushka looks like a typical strong Indian beauty and has great height and strong eyes and aura around her. I am not surprised she gets all those goddess or warrior queen type roles. She has totally Indian looks and never looks plastic or westernized nor mousy or naive, gullible.

We can agree to disagree. You may consider South Indian films bigger than Bollywood, but I don't.

I never said South Indian films are bigger than Bollywood. I just said their period films, fantasies, Indian mythology films, historicals are way better than ones made by BW in recent decades and they look more rooted and Indian. Of course we can agree to disagree. But it is about the specific genre and not industries as a whole.

Devdas is still fine because it is the way sarat Chandra wrote the character, it is astonishing why it became so cult but it is precisely a guy who is egoistic and drowns himself in alcohol for love and hurt pride, not everybody’s cup of tea but it is that

Bajirao”s focus on only love story was a travesty, it could have been much more

Sarat Chandra's heroes have all been pretty spineless from what I've seen. Devdas not only destroys himself but drags down Chandramukhi,Chunni Lal and his servant with him. They're going to feel guilty for their whole lives. Jeetendra in Khushboo (1975) conveniently forgets his family's childhood pledge to wed Hema Malini. No wonder the latter refuses when she gets such a lackluster proposal. He doesn't even come in person to collect her. The less said about Parineeta the better. Vidya Balan is so mature and dignified . But Saif is just too eager to get married to Diya at the slightest misunderstanding. But he stood up to his father at the last minute unlike Devdas.

I don't think so.

Cos the maximum chunk of film's budget would go towards Stars payment. There will be very less left for other expenses required for a movie of that scale.
