Janta Janardhan is the only survival for any film industry. For all the flak Alia gets in the nepotism row, if there were 3 continuous flops, even KJo would stop announcing her name everywhere. Ironically highway was one of her really good performance but the lowest in box office

Some of these below average, average, semihit films were plain flops, but Kjo and his fave kids Aloo Varun always make BOI give their flop films average status, so that they can gloat they don't have any flop films. Compare their SeMiHiTs and AvErAgEs with some other similar budget flops you'd find those movies earned as much as Varun's and Aloo's averages/semihits.

ADHM was a semihit/Above average budget-wise, but BOI gave it hit status showing some excuses like underselling and all.

An actor can only become a leading star with audience support and love over a continuous period of time. Stardom isn't defined by your opportunities but by your ability to draw in crowds. No matter how or why you got the work, the audience still has to watch you film after film....Alia's success rate alone speaks to her support. Besides, Karan has tried a similar strategy with Sid and been nowhere near as successful so it's clearly not just nepotism behind where she is today.

She got some of the best films. And those films would do well with any other actress too. So what choice does the audience have?

So to answer your question, it is nepotism. The audience just went for the better or masaledaar films, which Alia was a part of.

Kind of both. She got meatier projects since her debut and got maximum publicity after she was made into a meme ( even negative publicity is still publicity) As an actress she is better than many of her contemporaries in fact I think she is best nepotism product to come out in recent times but this "superstar" image is total fluke. The audience cares for entertainment and hype. These stars are hyped up by their PR and are projected as some demigods believe me if not for stupid PR agencies the general audience doesn't gives flying rat's ass about who is dating who, who wore what etc.

8 hit/superhit films out of 12 in the picture given. This cannot happen without audience's support.

She's the worst product of nepotism. I don't expect from stars to not think about their kids or pick up any outsider above their kids, but kjo literally finished all competition to make her useless adopted daughter shine. She's totally average, nothing special. If you put her in every second big project without any struggle or audition, obviously she would succeed somewhere. what about those who totally missed the chance because of useless daughter with 2 influential fathers? Who knows? Those who lost the projects were better than her?

I would still watch Alia in an ad over those weird dual meaning deodorant ads.

Sid like John can look good. They both cannot act or emote to save their lives.

People had made her more visible over SSR case. Other actors have to fight for any limelight. They are ready even to create stupid nonsense controversy.
