It should be kept in mind that in spite of all the supposed Hindu bashing it does, the main character of the show is a Hindu. They use Hindu mythology as a metaphorical device for the hero and the anti hero. The writers of the show aren't idiots, they have very smartly appealed to centrist sensibilities.

It should also be kept in mind that the Hindu characters are the most fleshed out and you get full back story about them. We know about Haathiram's family, Sanjeev Mehra's family, Tyagi's family, Tope Singh's family. We never know about Ansari's family and he was practically second male lead (background about Kabir M is given but only to give him sad back story)

People are saying the show is Hinduphobic because it shows Islamophobia and casteism. Aren't these realities of Hindu society? Do we not tell our children that they should marry people of the same religion and caste? Do we not judge Muslims and Christians for being non vegetarian even though amongst Hindus it is primarily the Brahmin minority which is vegetarian and other Hindus consume beef, etc. Do people not get lynched over food preferences? Do upper caste men not rape lower caste women? Truth is always bitter to swallow.

Ismein people will do whataboutery saying 'ya but Muslims also kill Hindus, lower caste men also rape, sadhus get lynched, etc. Etc' that's true. We live in a violent society. But the difference is in institutional power. Look at the composition of Parliament, media houses, business companies. There is barely any lower-caste, Muslim or female representation. People are criticizing the show for saying police and govt. Is corrupt. If you live in a country where majority of the powerful people are Hindus, then villains will be Hindus only na. If I live in Saudi Arabia and criticize their government, does it mean I'm Islamophobic? alternatively, if you think criticizing the government makes you Hinduphobic then you are basically admitting that we are a Hindutva country which proves the makers' point about minorities being in danger.

I'm not saying the show is perfect. There is obviously a certain degree of audience manipulation involved. But no Indian TV show has ever had the guts to expose these things. This is the reality of our nation, you can accept it or continue living in the Matrix.

+100. Very well said!

I did not watch the show because of the cruelty and violence and the reviews also said it's too cruel.

However, it's common when a show like this is made, people come out bringing the religious factor and say what if it was made on another religion there would be curfew but surprising to see people praise radicals. Saffron terror also will be praised now which is a reality. Recently, a church set (fake Church) was broken down by Hindu radicals saying it was built before a temple so we destroyed it.

The show is made by a Hindu itself and most of the actors are of the same religion. If it was so anti-Hindu, then another religion would be making it know?

People are saying make such movies on Christianity while Hollywood is full of them lol. I've seen worst movies based on Christianity and bashing the character of Jesus and except protests, not much was done. So does that make Christians a peaceful community compared to others? I don't bother to take such movies seriously unless they use vulgar language and most Hollywood movies do and I choose not to watch them instead. Imagine the same done in Bollywood movies. There would be a curfew then. 🤪

I am curious about the Barkha Dutt piece. From the clip it seemed like she was trying explain the conflict, not justify it. Is there a place where the whole video is available?

Indian right wing people use the same rhetoric as Trump minions in social media...

Of course you do. 😆

Since your xenophobia is on a open display , i will take a leaf out of your book and say - half of the world's problems will be solved if every copy of that damned violent book is burned to ashes and people are brainwashed to forget Islam and its violent regressive teachings. Islam has no place in the modern world as it is a religion which promotes and supports terrorism. Islam needs to go away.

Islam Murdabad ! 😛

Post reported for open bigotry and Islamophobia 😆.

what is this???? what is the purpose of showing this

will the makers dare to show the same depicting Islam or Christianity where they show them defying the sanctity of their mosque or church? They won't and had they, there would have been a massive outrage.

In this scene, they show a pujari serving beef to a man eating them near a temple with slippers on.

why was such a scene needed, will they dare to show a mosque clergy serving something that is against Islam laws or that is sacred to them?.

This is why there should be a ban, all those who cry about secularism and being liberal won't say anything now coz apparently this is not "being secular" only when it's against the minority community, they become seculars

You will find 10,000 such links on the Internet. This is not to say that upper-caste women don't get raped. But rape as a crime doesn't occur in a vacuum. It's an instrument for suppressing the marginalized, and specifically in the context of caste, it's a means of 'teaching a lesson' or trying to assert control over lower caste women. The way Paatal Lok showed it might have been slightly insensitive and gratuitous (this is a problem with Game of Thrones too) but that doesn't mean it doesn't occur. and Dalit women's plight is ignored/taken less seriously than that of more privileged women.

This is exactly the problem. Some pseudo intellectuals try demeaning their own religion (Hinduism) to look cool. The same people have no guts to talk something against about other religions. Being secular and being democratic is directly proportionate to demeaning Hinduism, Talking ill about Hindu gods and goddesses, questioning our cultural norms which we have been following since decades, questioning our temple charitable trusts. Honestly this kind of propaganda against Hinduism needs to stop.

Ever wondered why nobody makes such shows on Islamic bigotry or Islamic religious figures? Let's don't pretend that the unwritten taboo does not exist. 😆
