SLB never does female oriented films; he is known for idolising (and even objectifying) women in his movies. They are the subject of violent envy and lust, wrapped up in the most dazzling universes. The only exception was Black but it flopped and was probably his worst movie. I thought RL was fun because of its cinematography but I didn’t like it. It was crass and highly misogynistic and backwards. Leela is completely submissive to Ram and love, quite dumb and ended up killing herself. Not sure what makes this movie female oriented. It was clearly Ranveer’s movie, not matter how popular Deepika was. In the end it is about who made the most impact and it was clearly Ranveer (his songs were better and impactful, he was the ultimate macho hero, etc.). Same applies to BM and Padmaavat. SLB always roots for his male leads. I don’t like it but that’s who he is.

Cocktail, to me is Veronica's film. That's the only character I enjoyed of her.

Cocktail IMO is still her best performance to date; she blew me away and it was definitely her movie. SAK was completely overshadowed by Deepika although he was the bigger star then.

She slipped into Veronica's character so effortlessly. I watched it 7 years ago (literally the day it released). That character has stayed with me. I've sympathised for Veronica like no other. Immaculate portrayal. Makes me wanna watch the film again.

I guess Homi took out the best from her.

I actually initially watched it for SAK as I used to consider him as one of the finest BW actors. I was completely shocked to find him underwhelming and was completely mesmerising by Deepika. Not her beauty but her character and the way she portrayed it. It is one of those amazing feel good movies that will become timeless. I had the same girl crush for Anushka in Band Baaja Baaraat. This movie was written for her. Homi is such a wonderful and underrated director.

I had a massive crush on Saif which made me watch the film. Surprisingly, it was such a fantastic film and the characters were so intriguing, especially, DP's that I couldn't help but love it.

The role was author backed and with Homi's wonderful direction, Deepika shone.

Shruti Kakkar is one of my most favourite characters. I love such ambitious girls. Cos I'm like that myself.

I adore Shruti and her no-nonsense, sassy self. She was not ott, she was real and very endearing. Something that is missing in the recent romcom movies. I rarely have the feels when I watch a romcom but I definitely felt the chemistry between Anushka/Ranveer. I reckon Anushka played her real self in that movie (the way she used to be before the fame). We seem to have the same taste; have you watched When Harry Met Sally? Not BW but another iconic romcom that you would certainly love.

I'm not inclined towards English films. It takes a lot for me to watch them. I'd like to check it out now that you've suggested, actually.

Deepika was coming off two huge blockbusters alongside series of successful movies.

It wasn't a female.oriented movie, but Deepika was defo the bigger star.

I usually don’t like US romcoms as I find them OTT and they often lack depth, but it is honestly one of the greatest romcoms I’ve watched. It is funny, crisp, sometimes satirical and really heartwarming. Nora Ephron was a brilliant screenwriter. Would love to know what you think if you decide to watch it!!
