I find Sumi strange!

Hello everyone, my name is Cherry & I'm new to this forum. I started watching Naagin 3 very recently but I think I caught up with almost every important sequence of this show.

One character I'm trying to decipher right now is Sumitra aka Mahir's mom. I mean didn't you guyz find her behavior strange & annoying? I'm stressing only on this particular character right now because I read few posts here hoping for her to remain positive forever. Also please let me know if I missed any important scenes that can contradict my views. 😊

Yuvi has returned back (according to Sehgal family) but what are Sumi's concerns w.r.t to Mahir's future since he's married to Bela right now? As far as I remember she's the one who made the proposal for BeHir marriage when her younger son left the house at the time of wedding. She has seen Bela hug Yuvi (thinking him to be Mahir) in one of the episodes yet she didn't question her or discuss the issue with BeHir. And the worst of all is when Yuvi (Vikrant) said Bela spent time with him on the night when Anu was killed. Now which mother would remain quite in such a situation!!?? I expected her to slap Yuvi or at least confront Bela regarding it then & there itself! But no! She's happily moving with BeHir in the house celebrating Navratri without any clarification from either. (Bela or Yuvi) Being a mother can't she understand the awkwardness of the situation (esp. when Yuvi is forcing himself upon Bela) & the pain her elder son is facing every moment.

May be its quite normal & ok for her because even she has gone through the same situation in her life due to her husband (his mistress in the same house) & accepted it. Why would any person with self-respect stand even for a second in a place where the very essence of a marriage; loyalty has been destroyed!?

Sumitra seems to be having no problem with any of these. She's busy taking care of Andy most of the time & then organizing festivities & parties with the rest (husband's mistress & family).

Initially sumi scolded Yuvi but then Bela herself is giving d impression 2 whole family that she is ok with PDA of yuvi akaVikrant , she herself not objecting it , it will be considered as her approval only , for seghal family Yuvi is not forcing bela

Bela herself don't care 4 her self respect , Yuvi said 2 mahir " gudnight bolne Mai der ho jaye y mind mat karna " Bela dint reacted & went away with Yuvi, which self respecting women will take this dialogue silently , she always tolerate double meaning dialogues if Vikrant silently.

Bela knows he is Vikrant but seghals he is yuvi

Why will family react if Bela is not objecting herself

Initially sumi asked Bela not give wrong signals 2 her sons, after that she founded Bela in yuvi's room she was bit angry

Mahir is waiting till he get final answer from Bela what she want

Yuvi said such a big thing still Bela remained silent

Miya biwi raazi kya karenga qazi kind of situation

Seghal whole family is very weird , maybe they r 2 modern . Sumi mostly left it 2 mahir taking final decision. Seghal family had one motive 2 party rest they don't care, Yuvi was missing from 3 months they were hardly worried

We can't blame other when Bela herself don't take pain 2 clear her stand

Sumi herself seeing Bela is not objecting yuvi's advances

Sumi dint proposed behir marriage , it was mahir himself came dressed as groom when Yuvi ran away , ya but when Bela ran away from mandap she requested her 2 marry mahir

Makers r not giving her role 2 portray that's why we keep guessing she is negative or positive

It's 2 common story where a sweet mom turning out into main mastermind ,soo we hope she remain positive

This scene theme expect d unexpected thou many things we predicted came true in this season

She should have taken step atleast talk with Bela but such thing didn't happen.

Actually it was cause of writer's poor writing.They just didn't want to clear misunderstanding and handled it very badly.

They did not give out a well etched out character to Sumi except keeping her image of this ' sweet mom'. It is all very superficial with her as a stand alone character ...

Mahir - " Mom suffered so much since my childhood" ,

Bela - " I can do anything for sumi maa, u won't get another sumi maa"...

^ We don't actually 'see' this, we are simply told so effectively by the leads. All her pain and goodness is extempored through the leads.

They don't want to give her more, lest they've to fill loopholes once they turn her negative... She is always hanging there in between giving suspicion to viewers she might flip anyday...

Hi Cherry, welcome to this forum. Even I find it a bit strange now that you mentioned it. I was so busy focusing on BeHir that I did not notice Sumi ma's behavior.

I am getting a strong gut feeling that she is negative and there is to it than meets the eye. Otherwise why would anyone stay with a cheating scumbag like Andy? Especially when all the wealth that Any flaunts is Sumitra's. She could have walked out on him anytime, and taken the money as well but she didn't. She was strangely insistent that Bella should marry Mahir.

Either she is negative or she is extremely powerful and positive who probably knew that Mahir and Bella were meant to be together.

Then what can she ask Bela .she has no moral right .that's what she thinks .so she us not interfering in Bela mahir Yuvi life

In reality it happens .a dad who had an extra marital affair can't question if his son has EMA .he loses his moral right

Same in case if sumi maa .in case if she interferes and Yuvi questions his mom to be silent ..quoting u were silent and accepted dad when he is with two women . What reply can she give

I smh think that the Sumitra we are seeing is not the real Sumitra who is Mahir, Yuvi and Kuhu's mom.

Probably the real Sumitra is dead or held captive just like how Bela's Mom was held captive. Because why would any mother plan her own children's death? The personality of the woman who was shown towards the end of the episode when Vikrant had re-entered was that of Sumitra only. Surely Sumitra has a connection with Vikrant.

She has been shown to be strong, she is not overly clingy with Andy, doesn't feel the need to make her presence felt to him- that is Poulomi's character. As a well meaning mother not wanting her kids to suffer the fate she suffered she should be ready to go out on a limb and take a stand or help them take a stand (given her earlier characterization). She should've had a confrontation with Yuvi and certainly Bela- you can't treat my boys like this, make up your mind and son type of confrontation. The writer's have deliberately made her character very two- dimensional with no mental activity being shown for her, they could've written her character better and yet not given a peek of her thought processes so they could decide how positive or negative to make her later.

Problem is the writers for Indian TV shows start with a story only for the first 10 scenes and a loose general idea of where they want to go, how they reach that is a variable dependent on the channel, TRP's, contracts of actors and xyz. Within that scope it's commendable they are able to generate an interested viewership willing to spend hours talking about the show, characters and actors.

Negative publicity is publicity too

Actually sumi is a very weak character .she us nit strong lady .sumi has no self respect either

No self respecting woman will allow her sautan to roam in her house

She is not upright about morals either bcis she allowed her husband to sleep with her while he is sleeping with poulami also .

Turns woman who has no self respect or not upright if morals even if she question others will others pay heed to her

Like if u lie and cheat and if u tell u r children not to lie and cheat will they listen.

If u have ema and tell u r children don't have ema will they listen

They will question u back so people like that won't interfere and that's what sumi maa doing now .

Right now I will not call her weak. Since this is a supernatural show I will like to believe that she has some ulterior motive which has not been revealed yet. But in a normal soap, yes her character would be rather weak. Or from a different angle as Sjass said she is simply not bothered by Andy's actions. She doesn't care that he is sleeping with other women. It takes a lot of courage to keep your cool in such situations. Walking out of the marriage is not always an option. To accept a cheating man in your life not because you are needy or clinging to him but to simply keep him there is a sign of great strength. Andy always knows that whatever he is it is because of Sumitra's family when she decided to change houses, there was a certain authority in her voice when she insisted. She, very subtly showed Andy and Polo their places.
