After facing flak for saying Internet existed in India thousands of years ago during the Mahabharat era, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb found himself at the centre of another row. Speaking at a design workshop on handlooms in the state capital here, Deb controversially said former Miss World Diana Hayden doesn't represent Indian beauty. "I am not criticising her but didn't find traits of Indian beauty in her, Deb said, as per the Hindustan Times. His reported comments have drawn widespread criticism from students, politicians and social workers inside as well outside the state.
As per the report, Deb said an Indian beauty should exhibit traits of Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswati, which Hayden lacked. On the other hand, Aishwarya Rai, another Miss World pageant winner, exhibits those traits and represents Indian beauty well, [/b ] the Tripura chief minister added. [b] "Aishwarya Rai was crowned Miss World and that's alright. She represents the Indian woman, he said. Deb further questioned the beauty pageants, alleging a conspiracy behind their award. He claimed that Indian women latched onto cosmetics after several Indians ladies won international beauty contests sponsored by foreign firms.
