After facing flak for saying Internet existed in India thousands of years ago during the Mahabharat era, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb found himself at the centre of another row. Speaking at a design workshop on handlooms in the state capital here, Deb controversially said former Miss World Diana Hayden doesn't represent Indian beauty. "I am not criticising her but didn't find traits of Indian beauty in her,  Deb said, as per the Hindustan Times. His reported comments have drawn widespread criticism from students, politicians and social workers inside as well outside the state.

As per the report, Deb said an Indian beauty should exhibit traits of Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswati, which Hayden lacked. On the other hand, Aishwarya Rai, another Miss World pageant winner, exhibits those traits and represents Indian beauty well, [/b ] the Tripura chief minister added. [b] "Aishwarya Rai was crowned Miss World and that's alright. She represents the Indian woman,  he said. Deb further questioned the beauty pageants, alleging a conspiracy behind their award. He claimed that Indian women latched onto cosmetics after several Indians ladies won international beauty contests sponsored by foreign firms.

PS: This is tiripura's CM

Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb stands by internet during Mahabharata' claim

AGARTALA: Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday stood by his statement about the existence of internet and satellite communication in the age of the 'Mahabharata', accusing his critics of "lacking nationalism". Governor Tathagata Roy came to the CM's defence, saying that "prototypes" must have paved the way for present-day technologies.

"A small section of people in our country are desperate to undermine India's status and highlight that of others because of their lack of nationalism. I believe only narrow-minded people can do such things and trigger a controversy without trying to understand the depth of the statement. But I stand by my belief," Deb said on Wednesday.

Addressing a workshop on the commercialization of Public Distribution System on Tuesday, Deb had said, "Internet and satellite communication had existed in the days of 'Mahabharata'. How else could Sanjaya (the charioteer of King Dhritarashtra in the epic) give a detailed account and description to the blind king about the battle of Kurukshetra? It means internet was there, the satellites and that technology was there in this country at that time."

Didn't know Aishu exhibited traits of Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswathi

She is rich, educated, an actress... maybe those are the traits he's talking about

But those technologies are not mentioned in Mahabharata

Atleast Pushpaka Vimana is mentioned in ancient texts, but still you cannot claim planes existed in ancient India

If this guy wants to talk about many inventions and advanced technologies in Ancient India there are some good examples

But he should be careful of exaggeration... Maybe this guy wants attention and doesn't mind being butt of jokes

"Deb said an Indian beauty should exhibit traits of Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswati"

Right. Indian beauty should exhbit traits of non-existent entities instead of just celebrating its diversity and richness.
