Zubiya sat in the same park where she often met Gaiti, before the friendship took her to the Khans' Ancestral home in the Neelum Valley. She was particularly avoiding that man, she was neck deep in love with- Asfandyar.
Of course, she denied it to him in the rudest manner she understood to ward off the most eligible fellow she knew. But she knew as well that, she didn't deserve him, because of her background. He deserved someone way better than her... Someone like Faryal...
Okay, she admitted to herself that she felt strong pangs of jealousy seeing that girl anywhere around Asfi, but, still... She relieved out a heavy breath. She can't be in his life; she cannot see anyone in his life. He wants no one else, but her. And she will give him anything but her love. Back to the same point that she didn't deserve him, because of her background.
Twisting and untwisting the left open strands of her hair from her neatly pleated hair, she didn't realise until now, that there was another person sitting next to her on the same bench in the park, heaving out tired breaths; twisting and untwisting the end of her dupatta; face all red.
"Gaiti? Aap yahan? Kab aayi aap?" Zubiya was surprised.
"Thodi deir pehle." Gaiti still was agitated.
"Kya masla hai? Aap bohot pareshaan lag rahi hain.." Zubiya asked.
"Dr. Haroon ki family aayi thi Hyderabad se. Unhone proposal diya hai. Saim bhi unse itna maanoos (friendly)ho gaya hai. Meri samajh nahi aa raha, main karoon kya?" Gaiti shared her agitation.
Zubiya couldn't help, but smile. "Ye toh bohot achhi baat hai Gaiti... Mujhe lagta hai, ab aapko move on karna chahiye. Past mein phanse rehne se koi faaida nahi hai. Jo hona tha wo ho chuka hai, aisa toh hai nahi ke aap apne marhoom(Late) shauhar ko ditch kar rahi hain. Sab aapki khushi dekhna chaahte hain, Gaiti."
"Kehna bohot aasaan hai Zubiya, jab khud pe beet ti hai, tab pata chalta hai... Sahi keh rahi hoon na main?" Gaiti had a changed look, not sombre, but searching something in Zubiya.
Zubiya kept looking at Gaiti, not knowing what to say. Nevertheless, she tried- "Aap koshish karke toh dekhein, kya maaloom, things might not be as difficult as we are thinking? Maybe Dr. Haroon turns out to be the balm of your hurting soul. Maybe, he helps you out of your past, and make a beautiful present and future? I know him, he is a wonderful man. He understands what you have gone through."
"EXACTLY MY POINT!" Gaiti patted Zubiya's hand. "Zubiya, easier said than done. Even I know Asfi very well. In fact, right from when he was born, I have known him even more than Danyal might have known. He is a wonderful man, Zubiya. Maybe he turns out to be the balm of your hurting soul. Maybe, he helps you out of your past, and makes a beautiful present and future? I know him, he is a wonderful man. He understands what you have gone through." Gaiti explained and repeated Zubiya's words softly.
"Aap kahan ki baat kahan leke jaa rahi hain Gaiti. Main toh aapki baat kar rahi hoon..." Zubiya huffed a forced smile. Somehow she didn't want to talk about her marriage proposal to Asfi with anyone.
"Zubiya, khafa mat hona, par maine Facebook ke through tumhare Khala ke bete ko trace kiya tha, aur Maama, Baba, main aur Asfi Peshawar bhi gaye they last Sunday. Tumhari khala ne sab kuch bataya, jo kuch bhi Asfi jaan na chaahti tha. Aur mera yaqeen karo, Asfi bilkul prejudiced nahi hai. Wo abhi bhi tumhara intezaar kar raha hai. Bas, tumhe confront karke force nahi karna chaahta." Gaiti told all this in one breath.
Zubiya looked on with an open mouth. What should she do? Get angry at her best friend, or go to her beloved and talk? For now, she wanted to do neither- "Dekho Gaiti, main bas tumhare rishte ki baat kar rahi thi... Mujhe nahi pata Dr. Asfandyar ko kya aur kitna pata hai. Mujhe par bas itna pata hai, ki aapki family aur main khud, bohot khush honge agar aap Dr. Haroon se shaadi ke liye haan kar dengi." Zubiya told urgently.
"Achha toh phir main ek shart pe sochungi iss baare mein. You will have to make it a deal that, tum Asfi se saari baatein clear karogi, aur aagey ki baat karogi. Agar tumne aisa kiya toh main bhi Dr. Haroon se shaadi ke baare mein seriously sochungi... So, let's make it a deal?" Gaiti asked in her most friendly yet firm manner.
While Zubiya looked tiredly at her persistent friend, who would anyway get things done out of her, just like she had made it done, many many times in the past.
