Its so disturbing to read such news that involve small children. I think its time there is a regulatory body for private schools. They take too much fees and fail to provide basic security.
Why does a Bus conductor enter the school building at all? He has no work there . Its important that school campuses employ people after proper screening. Also, young children should be sent to toilets in batches at regular intervals. They should never be left alone.

Gauri Lankesh's murder has become a political issue. Death of any kind is bad, murder is worse because every life matters. Yet I fail to understand what did she do for thr nation to get full state honours during her funeral? I researched about her and found that she was just another regular journalist with strong political likes and dislikes. So, what made her a martyr? That she stood against BJP in a Congress ruled state? Or its because the govt fail to save her so compensating it with a feel good gesture? They should realise its the fsilure of their govt, failure of law and order. So, simply ranting about BJP or RSS aint helping

Congress is repeating all its failed techniques. Highlighting one tragedy while ignoring other such cases is going to destroy them completely.

Then we also have elections coming up.

Sex education begins first at home then in schools and colleges. The day parents and teachers decide to be open to kids about a sensitive issue instead of treating it as a taboo half the problems gets resolved!!

It's been so nice here ecri and rest of you guys 😳 Good night.

Good morning Benna 😃

Yes, that is what I meant that from the makers to the viewers, they just need to see that IPK1, IPK2 and IPK3 are entirely different shows under the same umbrella brand and while the channel has taken the franchise forward, the least we can do is to acknowledge that season 1, with all its flaws, was a cult show that set the bar too high, for not only the makers but also the actors and the entire team.

It doesnt take one man to make a show, its the entire team that has to do the bit and well at that which is what makes shows a success. In IPK3, the bait for the FL was always more and delivered far less. Same goes for the writer, she took the word franchise too far and copied stuff. And needless to say that while being inspired from the original is ok, a deja vu for recall value is not ok.

I recollect as kids we had sex education classes and they were anything about sex education and more on birds and bees, dont ask me why. 😆

I am glad you are liking the discussions. Feel free to post as and when you are here.

There has to be liberty in creativity. But to what extent? There has always been a war for the throne of Mahant and most of those wars happen in the court room. None of it happens on the street.

I have not heard of any temple whose doors are closed for 16 years.
I am yet to see Mahant and his family wearing such outrageous clothes and jewellery in public. They are the priests and are supposed to be living simple and pious lives. They can not follow Paris fashion in public. Most of the Mahants kids are well educated and double educated. Unlike the shat pratishat Vashisht that they have shown.

Will not say anything about that Bahubaali act. For me the show is pre ASR(Mumbai) and in Allahabad, Any thing that happens post ASR stage does not relate to pre ASR stage.

Bhavi

I love you for saying this.

Mahants are supposed to be the upper class of the caste system. If you recollect Indian culture predominantly has four ruling castes- Kshatriya (the kings and soldiers), Brahmans (the priests and related disciples), Vaishyas (artisans and craftsmen who started the barter system) and Shudras (SC/ST and OBC/ the Nimn Jaati and the untouchables who lived outside the villages and kings states). Amidst the above mentioned castes, the Brahmans were always treated well and respected for the caste that they represented and the knowledge they imparted to the royal children.

Brahmans were also the people with high moral values whose belief on God and prayers was used not just to carry out religious works but also to touch base with the heavenly abode, like asking for rains in the scenario of a draught or seeking 'Shudhi'' for the 'achchoot' or blessing the celebrations in general. So all in all, the Brahmans held power of their own and were the closest to the kings. And they still are in close knit societies like India and especially in holy cities like Benaras, Allahabad, Kaashi, Mathura,Vrindavan, Ayodhya etc.

The way the creatives of IPK3 had portrayed the Mahant and the Mahantani in the first episode was beyond pathetic. They were shown to be people who were manipulative and shrewd but they were also shallow beings and it looked like an animated joke that was presented to the viewers. I am appalled that SP okayed the pilot episode for this. I agree that the dynamics were well represented in the first epi, but the depiction was dismal.

And lemme tell you, that at 8 PM slot where the elders and the kids sit together to watch the show, this kind of juvenile, lacklustre and dismal portrayal of a holy city and a caste that is still looked at with respect in the country, doesnt go down well with the viewers.

Bhavi, bang on about clothes and morals.

Anyway, I wish the makers had done their research well, but nevertheless since its a bygone era in the pages of IPK3, we shall leave the discussion for another day. 😆

For a starter if every mother can ask their sons to respect women. Again kids learn what they see. When the father of that kid does not respect his own sister, mother or wife how can he learn that? Movies objectify woman as sex symbol. Most important the word NO means NO if that is learnt by most then things will be better.
When the kids can smoke and chew tobacco at early age, drink without any fear at the tender age and most important have no sex education what can one expect? Teasing girl at the cross road since childhood since those kids do not have place to steam of their energy. Kids are not much interested in physical education or sports. I have three schools around in my neighbourhood yet I donot see students outside their school hanging out during recess or after school. You will see most of them either in gym or play ground. This rule applies to the High schooler as well. At the most you see them in coffee joint around but no one sits outside for hours doing nothing. I have seen kids in India sitting on their two wheelers outside the gates of the school doing nothing and as they say empty mind is devil's workshop.

You were in grade 7 😲 when SBKBT was released. I have not seen that show so can not comment on it. Just the news about that show were too much to behold.

Ecri - of all the shows that you mentioned I just remember Hasratein. I watched it here and there episodes. My father was strict and would say "Dimaag bigadnewali serial hain"😆 Watched mainly the part after Shefali Chhaya (Back then she was married to Harsh) was there.
Rest of the shows that you mentioned I don't remember watching them.

Benna - IPK 1 was not just Arnav or Khushi. I think it was more than that. Audience well connected to each and every character. There was too much goodness in the show. The ever positive characters of Raizada mansion was a A+++. Anjali was physically challenged yet she was relatable. Not some deceiving, manipulative sister. Mami was loud yet was loving and her love for her chote was exemplary. Buaji too with his hai re nandkishore was good character. The show had humour, angst, love, hate, soft music, etc etc etc. To top it up the chemistry was exemplary. ASR with all his angst and hate was relatable since he had that introspection. Khushi although uneducated had that inner strength and positivity. She cried but her crying was not cringeworthy. She gave back yet her giving back can not be considered as her ego. She came back to Raizada mansion but it was more due to luck then due to her needs. Even La was a well written character. She is one of those other woman whom you will not hate. Those Rabba ves were to die for.
I don't think any one should compare IPK 1 to 3. I have not watched IPK2 so can not say anything about it.
As far as 4 lions go. I watched Humsafars and Tanhaiyan. Tanhaiyaan as i said was cliched and HS🤢

OMG Bhavi I have so much to say.. bear with me.

Lemme start with the way the schools and kids function in India is beyond me. The news is full with crimes against women and young girls, some being stabbed and stashed cos they resisted rape and men think that women were sent to be trolled, trampled and have sex with, as and when the men pleased. The society is male dominated and the men are treated to be superior and my blood boils when I see women themselves treating boys/ men with respect and condemning girls, just cos being a female is a crime.

Tell me how much has the government done to curb rapists, stop female foeticide or take action against bullying and eve teasing. When the society is so wild, what can one expect? 😕 But I am glad that outside India things are much better and more open. I see why those societies are safer.

Bhavi, Hasratein was good, and Harsh and Shefali were superb. But I loved Astitva, Niki Aneja was a doc and Varun Badola was ten yrs younger to her and they get married out of love, have a child and then Varun had an affair with his assistant, whose his age. These shows were so God dam progressive, that after such shows when I watch characters like Chandni, I feel like banishing them from indian TV, they are pushing the younger generations into a regressive mentality. Imagine what people will learn from Chandni, esp young girls, to put their lives into risk and let a chandelier drop so that the knight in shining armour can say Parwah hai mujhe. 😡

@bold WORD. 👏
At the end of the hard day a person wants entertainment and optimism and not the regressive showcasing of negatives. It is beyond me why a theme that was meant to be dark has been taken to be negative and people condone it. IPK1. IPK2 were well scripted shows and had their own positives that weighed the negatives out. So people who yell that season 1 had issues and season 2 too, should know that while nothing is perfect, at least , 1 and 2 held the viewers attention with good portrayal, positive screenplay and well written script unlike misplaced emotions, mischaracterisations and absolutely abhorrent storyline, add to that clothes that are an eye sore. Anyway, as long as Sobti is there, I will watch and then move on.

@ Bhavi & Ecri and Benna,
Its easy to show nonsense with Hindutva because its by nature a vast subject. Problem with today's liberal thinkers is that they learn a very little about the subject and boost to ignore it as an outdated way of living. Mocking it has become fashionable. I want to say a lot of things here but it will turn controversial and I dont wish to put the thread and its members into trouble.

You have explained it so well. The idea of respecting people, irrespective of their cast, creed and ofc GENDER has always been challenging. Have you watched pink? A scene in that movie shook me hard. We have well educated boys, who have immense respect for their moms, sisters and bhabhis and yet treat other women as shit. Some people are brought up in such a strict atmosphere that they end up breaking every rule, just to please their rebellious nature.

But the biggest and most common problem I have seen around me is the attitude of the parents who think SONS are bhagwan ki den and their BAHUS and BETIS are always the second priority. When they bring up their kids with such attitude, there is no way the kids will learn to respect women.

A personal experience: Back in 2013, my FIL's friend had come home for dinner. While they were about to leave, my MIL signaled us to take blessings from him. His ashirwad was 'ghar mein ladka aajaye'. Usually I don't get into arguments with strangers, but that day I could not take it and gave it back to him, much to the surprise of my in-laws. He listed 10 points as to why sons are better than daughters and how he thought his extremely successful physician daughter had failed as a wife since she chose to NOT dedicate her life for her husband and kids. These are well educated people of our society.

The documentary on Nirbhaya, which was probably banned by Indian Government was so hard hitting that it had taken me a week to get over it. More than the details about rape, it was the attitude of the rapists and the lawyers that had upset me.

My mom always tells me that our generation was the last one to grow up playing with friends, with basic amenities and joint families. While I don't agree with her on the join family point, I do get what she means by that. The generation that your kids are in is probably trickier. Do you feel the same?

Ranjitha

Welcome to the feminist club. 😆 No I dont believe in the notion but people do label free spirited and open minded women like us as feminists now. A term overused and definitely not valued.

But yes, the gender bias puts me off so much that I dont even like being associated with people who have such shallow notions and the worst part is, the women condone it. And believe me when I say this I have seen women around me doing what not to have a boy, as soon as they get to know that they are preggo. 🤢 cant believe after being a woman they think so. And some argue that since a woman's ;ute is tough in india, they dont want to have girls and make them suffer. Idk what to say.

Movies like Pink, or Dangal, are critically acclaimed and much watched. People clap their hands off and go back to being the shallow individuals they are. But I am glad that men like Shoojit Sarkar and Aamir Khan are at least taking such initiatives. If not for anything else, at least people will value it.

Just hope the generations to come are more accepting towards gender equality.

See this is IPK 1. How easily we pick up these words like asli duniya or mami's some random dialogues. La calling mutton to laxmi or nk 's some stupid Hindi. Often at home I tell ppl agar inteqam ki aag bhujh jaye toh batti bandh karke so jao.😆
This relationship with fictional characters was so endearing. I couldn't understand any plot of season 3. Though I read your conversations about how a project is launched, how much trust must have worked between 4 lions n SP, I still wonder how this show went on air?
It was abnormal from the word go. And I am not talking about the weirdo costumes.
Who in this age waits for temple trust for last 16 years? Their daughters don't study. Female lead was described as a Sanskrit scholar who is now ready to seduce her childhood friend who is abusing her from the time they have met.

Anu ji

Very well said, IPK1 touched lives and it stays on. Every time I utter a what the, I remember the show and ASR, every time I pray to Devi Maiyaa, I remember the show and Khushi. When I look at Samosas or Laddoos, I miss the show, dammit, when I celebrate Diwali and make a rangoli, I miss the show. I miss the show, period.
But I recollect it with fond memories.

And what IPK3 give? Garish costumes, haphazard tracks, confused FL, cringeworthy show and I quickly blink a few times and look away to divert my attention else where. 😲🤢

Human beings are the most complicated machines made by god. To stop any misdeeds by them cannot be achieved through a machine like CCTV at every corner of the world or even some other more improved jammers . A human mind is evil, so he will find a way to his prey and after the incident other human brains will work to stop that menace. So in a way or other these crimes will continue unless we change our mindset.
We MUST try to make our children human first and then educated. Education n literacy is not same. That's why our maximum people are literate not educated. They don't know to respect anyone.
I just read you discussing PINK movie. Last weekend at a party I heard couples making fun of " no means no" in dirtiest way possible. They are all literate and working at good places. What conclusion can we draw from this?
Rape, molestation, marital rape are very serious and sensitive issues. And it's on the rise. But if we don't insist on making good human beings then it's all will be chalta hain types.

@bold Tell me about it. People watch and make fun or they watch and feel proud but do nothing to change anything. Its a sad state of affairs.
