Chapter I

The guests at Raizada Mansion watched with barely hidden surprise, intrigue and embarrassment as the undisputed head of the Raizada pariwaar romanced his wife in full view of all their guests.

Arnav Singh Raizada was an enigma who had until seven months ago remained a topic of casual interest as mothers and grandmothers of their social circle wished to marry off their daughters to the man who held high importance in their society. There had been many occasions when these women contacted Devyani Raizada and Anjali Jha-nee-Raizada; regarding fixing a union between their families. Each time, they had been sorely disappointed as they received rejections to their offers as the Raizada women claimed that their Chotte wasn't ready for marriage yet.

There had been rumours on the grapevine, of course, that the eldest Raizada son was dating a model, a Lavanya Kashyap. The gossip grew even juicier as the women came to realise that Arnav Singh Raizada was involved in a live-in relationship with Miss Kashyap - and when their integrity had been challenged during the Diwali party last year, Arnav had announced his surprise engagement to Lavanya, much to the shock and dismay of those who had been wanting a rishta for their daughters.

Then a month later came the announcement at Arnav's and his brother's joint engagement party that he and Lavanya were no longer to-be-married. The confusion they had all felt was quickly heightened as two months later, on the day of his own brother's marriage, Arnav Singh Raizada had turned up in full view of the guests having eloped with the bride's younger sister, Khushi Kumari Gupta.

The rumour mill ran at an exponential rate during that period as they all speculated the reason behind their quick marriage, 'Was it pregnancy?' they all questioned. After all, it was no news to anyone to anyone in their elite circle that the young businessman had no qualms in sharing his roof with an unmarried woman and no one could deny how beautiful the younger Gupta daughter was, despite her middle-class upbringing. They speculated whether this was why Lavanya's and Arnav's engagement was short-lived. For a brief period, while this scandal was believed, Lavanya was praised for her grace and serenity for handling the situation she had been unwillingly put in by her best friend and boyfriend and mothers rushed to propose rishtas to Lavanya's family, who lived in London, they heard. Not-so-kind words about Khushi's character was spoken of behind her back. Besharam, they called her, for trapping a rich man with her womanly wiles.

But as they waited, for that unavoidable bump to appear around her stomach and reveal the secret the Raizada family were keeping close to their hearts; they found themselves disappointed. Evidently, they had been wrong. So what was the reason behind the elopement, they pondered. As the months trickled by, the mystery of the quick marriage between two extremely private people became less interesting as no one was the wiser and even Manorama Raizada kept surprisingly tight-lipped about the situation.

When the remarriage had been announced, the friends and neighbours of the Raizada's had all assumed that Devyani Raizada had finally gotten her way with her grandson and convinced him to follow the traditions of their culture. For all the negative, derogatory comments they had all made during the first few months following Khushi's initial marriage to Arnav; they couldn't help but feel sorry for the jilted bride at the mandap as Arnav's dadiji arrived and announced the absence of the groom. They watched aghast as Arnav's dadiji laid claims against Khushi's amma. One by one, they trickled out as the wedding was cancelled. Like mother, like daughter, they had all muttered as they walked out; still not having forgotten about Lavanya Kashyap.

Yet the very next day, the celebrity column on the national newspaper confirmed that Arnav Singh Raizada had indeed married Khushi Kumari Gupta. The credibility of the source may have been questioned by those who were in attendance at the wedding and had witnessed the drama, had the article not had a photograph attached to it of Arnav and Khushi smiling at each other with flower garlands around their necks and the telltale signs of a mangulsultra and sindoor on Khushi's neck and parting respectively. Perhaps, they thought, Arnav's dadiji had been mistaken. After all, how could a man marry a woman who was a daughter of the woman who ruined his mother's life?

Feeling justified by the fact that at least this time around, the eldest Raizada son and youngest Gupta daughter had been married in the eyes of their families, if not their society, the conversation about the mystery of Arnav and Khushi's love story had been dropped. Besides, new gossip filled the community about the Sharma's daughter who was apparently in love with an Englishman. Thus, their attentions diverted as the newly-weds were not heard of for a while, due to Arnav Singh Raizada's preference to stay out of the public eye.

Tonight, however, was Karva Chauth, the first time since the half-finished wedding of Arnav and Khushi that guests had been invited back into the Raizada Mansion. Having heard that Shyam Manohar Jha, the damadji of the Raizada household, had recently been arrested, with a divorce and court case pending and wanting to see the newly married couple together for the first time; the RSVP rate had been overwhelming. The details of Anjali's doomed marriage had not been divulged and the nosiness of the guests could not be greater.

As they stepped into the house, Devyani proudly re-introduced her younger, but eldest, daughter-in-law and they had been taken aback by the grace and beauty of Khushi. The shattered girl they had seen on the mandap was no more, the girl who had walked about their neighbourhood in Golf Links in brightly coloured salwar suits was replaced with a poised, dazzling young woman who oozed with charm and elegance clad in a designer pink and red saree with a filigree design set of diamonds gracing her neck, ears, nose, forehead, hair, fingers and arms. Had anyone held any lasting doubts about what Arnav had seen in a girl of a middle-class status, they no longer wondered after they had seen her that night.

Like a butterfly, the young girl had fluttered around her guests, ensuring their comfort was met and overall being a generous and conversational host. Like moths to a flame, everyone had been irresistibly attracted by her charming gait and sincere smiles. Intrigued by the obvious difference and newfound confidence in the girl's manner from seven months ago when they had met her during her Munh Dikhayi; they barely paid attention as Devyani introduced them to Sheetal, an apparent college friend of Arnav's during his time overseas. There was an air of disappointment as Devyani requested Khushi to go and check if the moon was out and the women watched with barely hidden envy as the Raizada bahu replied to Devyani with much love and respect in her voice, addressing her as naniji, and obediently following the orders of her elders.

However, whatever chagrin they had felt as the object of their fascination disappeared up the stairs, quickly melted away as they witnessed her interaction with her husband through the communal poolside that hid no secrets through its wall-length glass doors. They had, up till now, been deprived of witnessing Arnav and Khushi interact one-to-one, ever since their first marriage and how breathless they felt as palpable tension and love oozed between the couple.

Despite being known as an unrelenting, cold businessman with an irate temperament; Arnav Singh Raizada melted the hearts of the women watching as he embraced his wife, holding her close to his heart, his hand cradling her head as he clearly mollified her. Their adoration turned into stupefaction and astonishment as the purported cavalier and calculated 'ASR' kissed his wife's hand with the gentleness of holding a newborn baby and seduced her into a spontaneous dance filled with desire and inimitable magnetism.

Shamelessly, the guests at Raizada Mansion watched with barely hidden surprise, intrigue and embarrassment as the undisputed head of the Raizada pariwaar romanced his wife in full view of all their guests. Clearly, the shrewd man had forgotten his bearings and the open nature of the architecture of his mansion. Unable to tear their gazes away, the guests took in the entertainment for the night as a Princess danced with her Rajkumar.

If anyone had challenged whether Arnav and Khushi's elopement stemmed from anything but a fanciful love story between two young people; a decision made on a whim by two lovers who couldn't bear to be apart, they would hardly dispute with it now. Gasps of shock echoed through the building as Arnav quite literally swept his wife off her feet with the ease of a strong, powerful young man.

Those who had attended Payal's and Aakash's sangeet were reminded of the dance performed by Arnav and Khushi. While the two had barely managed to contain their desire for one another back then with a dance that had raised some eyebrows; now as a married couple, they held nothing back. Women blushed and envied the pretty smile on Khushi's face as Arnav carried his wife in his arms, and hastily turned away as the couple gave into the obvious odylic force between them as their lips met in a passionate embrace.

Had anyone, who had not been so keen on hiding their sudden awkwardness following their unabashed scrutiny on the couple on display; they would have noticed the mixture of glee, incredulity, and mortification on the faces of Devyani, Anjali, Manorama, Akash, Payal and Nand Kishore, more informally known as NK, for the happiness found between two important members of their family. Moreover, they would have also seen the growing antagonism and resentment in the eyes of the new guest at Raizada Mansion, Sheetal Kapoor.

AN: Okay, I'm officially back! It's been so long, but with the impending news of IPKKND 3 I couldn't help but come back to this amazing love story. I'm still in love with these characters and their story after all these years. Like everyone else, I was disappointed by the rushed ending to IPKKND, the track following the end of Shyam were mediocre and I am sure that I am not the only one who wanted to see a happily-newly-married Arnav and Khushi living their fairytale happily-ever-after together. If there was anyone who deserved it, it would be them. Ek Jashn also left a lot to be desired as only the last ten minutes saw Arnav and Khushi in the same frame. So this story is about how they went from here to that point where they looked simply regal. The way Khushi looked during this particular episode was a right step in the direction of the Arnav and Khushi in Ek Jashn. But this Khushi also has a lot of growing to do and I hope to achieve that in the upcoming chapters.

Chapter II

No one betrayed their voyeurism as Arnav and Khushi walked back into the fold of the party and announced that the moon had made an appearance. The only evidence of their small tryst by the poolside was the endearing blush gracing Khushi's cheeks and nose and the clear smirk on Arnav's face as he gazed at his wife with unbridled love and arrogance.

Akash shook his head with disbelief as he looked down at his own wife.

"I swear Bhai can get away with murder," he muttered.

Payal giggled and slapped Akash on the arm to quieten him as Anjali Di walked past them pulled Arnav and Khushi into a hug, emotionally cupping their cheeks before directing them to complete their first Karva Chauth as husband and wife. She then came over to Payal and Akash and embraced them in a similar manner.

As the guests and Raizada's lined up to complete their rituals, curious eyes couldn't help but wander over to the fascinating couple. They watched with bated breath as Arnav fed Khushi her first drink of water that day, effectively breaking her fast and then with amusement as Khushi declined a sweet in favour of what she preferred, a jalebi. Their cynical hearts softened as Arnav stopped his wife from taking her blessings at his feet and embraced her in his arms instead. This obvious display of love was not what they had been expecting from Arnav Singh Raizada; a man who they had come to know as being closed off from his feelings.

Sheetal watched Arnav behave and act in a tone that she had not known he was capable of. Jealousy reared its head and she glared at the woman who currently held Arnav's heart, silently vowing to replace her soon, very soon. Everyone's perusal of the new personality of Arnav Singh Raizada was short-lived as the man quickly disappeared back to his room after the completion of the ritual with a phone to his ear. However, they caught a quick glimpse of his more commonly known disposition as he ferociously demanded and ordered a man called Aman on the end of the line.

The guests were taken care of and fed before the Raizada family eventually joined at the dining table to eat their dinner together as per tradition. Sheetal watched as Arnav walked towards the table and took a quick glance at those sitting down, not once looking in her direction. She felt the displeasure grow on his face as he looked for someone in particular then, as though she had silently called out to him, his gaze lifted away from the table and straight in the direction of Khushi clearing up by the poolside.

As quick as he had walked over, he walked away, marching to his wife. Sheetal frowned, how was she to get the man alone when he couldn't seem to be without his wife for even a moment. Evidently, the other Raizada family members had similar thoughts as they exchanged smirks and giggles as they spared a quick glance in the directions of Khushi and Arnav. Sheetal frowned deeper and couldn't get the picture of Arnav and Khushi embracing, dancing and kissing by that poolside earlier out of her mind; how she had wished to be in Khushi's place.

...

"Khushi, come on, let's go, you know I can't eat without you," Arnav announced as he walked over to his ever-working wife.

"Two minutes, I'm nearly done," she replied with a smile.

"Come on, I'm hungry," Arnav complained; though when she sent him a bright, knowing smile, he knew that he hadn't fooled her and that she knew he was complaining for her sake.

It always surprised him, how easily she read him with her innate ability to understand his needs. Arnav watched her has she hustled about the table, fatigue clear on her face and felt guilty for having teased and troubled her today; waving food under her nose while she kept a fast for his good health and long life. His love for her grew with every day that he spent by her side and when she sent him a smile, like the one just now, he felt like he had all the power in the world. He frowned as he watched the smile on her face slowly slip away and followed her gaze to see Sheetal entering the poolside.

"Would you like some help?" Sheetal asked.

Khushi immediately declined her offer and muttered something about a missing tray. Arnav was distracted as his phone vibrated; he pulled it out, quickly reading the message on the screen while Khushi sorted herself out.

"Let's go," his wife finally announced.

Relieved, he walked with her, eyes glued to his screen as he sent a reply. Arnav listened as Khushi declined Sheetal's help once more and intervened, wanting his wife to eat something before she collapsed from exhaustion and hunger.

"No, no, no, you need to eat," he interfered.

"Okay, but let me give these to Hari Prakash-ji," she countered.

With a roll of his eyes, he agreed, "Alright, let's go then."

As they walked out into the living room, Nani beaconed Khushi over to eat and simultaneously, Sheetal called out to him.

"Arnav!"

He glanced away from his phone to look at Sheetal who was holding up her dupatta, shaking it as though she was removing some dust from it. He murmured a half-hearted 'Yes'.

"Oh, do you know who called me earlier?" Sheetal asked him.

Confused, Arnav shook his head no, aware of Khushi watching their exchange.

"Pranav!" Sheetal announced.

Arnav frowned with confusion as he struggled to connect the name to a face before replying, wanting to finish this conversation as quick as he could. Ending the small talk with Sheetal, Arnav turned to Khushi, keen on letting her know what he had planned for them. His wife, however, looked unsettled.

"Arnav-ji," she said, "you go ahead, I'll come."

Before he could refuse, she pushed him away insistently. Arnav frowned, wondering what his pagal wife was up to, he walked out of her view, stopped and observed her as she spied on Sheetal. Instantly, anger rose up in him at Khushi's constant doubt over Sheetal. Hadn't he shown her that she was the only one he loved, the only one who mattered to him? At first, her jealousy about his past relationship had been endearing and he had reveled in her being possessive over him. It was the only emotion that he had not been privy to from his wife during the entire time he had known her. He had seen her happy, angry, sad, playful, devastated, but never jealous. Not even when he had been with Lavanya; she had longed for him as he had her, but she had never envied his relationship with Lavanya with malicious intent ... she was too pure for that. It was a shame that it had taken him time to see that.

Reminded of his past maltreatment with her, of him being the sole cause for her despair, he held back, observing the scene as she did; wanting the full story this time. He was not left wanting as he, alongside his wife, watched as Sheetal picked up her hidden tray from under the table, the very tray that Khushi had announced as her missing one earlier, and broke her fast, looking at a picture on her phone.

Arnav was an intelligent man, it didn't take him long to put the pieces of the puzzle together and reach the same conclusion that he was sure that his wife had. Anger rose within him, far greater this time and more virulent.

How dare she try to create friction between him and his wife? Had he been blind all this time? How many more insinuations had Khushi heard and seen and bore silently? The recent discomfort in her willingness to be physically close with him suddenly entered his mind and Arnav was sure that he now knew the root cause of his wife's insecurities.

With a loud growl, Arnav stalked back over to his wife and shouted out to Om Prakash. Khushi jumped as she heard the anger in his voice and looked at him with confusion. Arnav barely just managed to glimpse at the pain she hid behind the wall she was slowly rebuilding around her heart; determination grew within him tenfold. Grabbing the plates and ornaments from Khushi's hands, Arnav roughly thrust it into the open arms of Om Prakash. The man silently understood the order and took the objects away as Arnav grabbed a hold of his wife's hand and pulled her up the stairs. He was very well aware of his family staring at them with worry and curiosity as he dragged his wife into their room.

"Arnav-ji, what's-"

"No questions, hurry up and pack a bag, Khushi," he interrupted.

The confusion on Khushi's face grew, "Kya (what)?" she asked.

"Pack a bag, we're going away for the weekend," he announced as he packed his own belongings into a duffle bag.

"We are?" She asked, with childlike glee, before regaining her senses, "but why?"

"Because, Khushi," he grabbed her shoulders and looked into her eyes, "I have only been married to my wife for about a month and I barely get to see her, let alone spend any quality time with her. There are too many people in this house and we have absolutely no privacy so I'm taking you away to the farmhouse this weekend."

Khushi blushed prettily and coyly looked at him with hooded eyes, understanding what her husband was leaving unsaid. But as much as she wanted what he did, the unwanted reminder of Sheetal in her mind made the slow smile that had been forming on her face drop off.

"No Arnav-ji, not today. I'm feeling tired," she countered, half-heartedly.

"Khushi, I'm not taking no for an answer, we're going for dinner, then we're going to spend some time alone at the farmhouse, besides, I still owe you a honeymoon," Arnav smirked as she blushed.

He hid his wish to strangle Sheetal for stirring trouble and Khushi for hiding her stress from him. He would see to it that after this weekend, Khushi would feel no doubt over his love for her and her place in his life.

As his ever challenging wife opened her mouth to decline once more, he stopped her with a peck on her lips. Pulling away by a fraction, he ran his hands over her waist, pressing his pelvis into hers.

"Khushi," he breathed against her mouth, relishing in the shudder that ran through her body. She was so responsive to his touch. "Please," he whispered.

As ever, she could not refuse him when he talked to her with such sincere devotion and yearning in his tone. Nodding into his chest, she pulled away and walked over to the wardrobe. Arnav smiled with pleasure as she pulled out garments she wished to pack. Satisfied, Arnav continued to pack his belongings and then grabbed a pair of jeans and white shirt to change into. He couldn't wait to get out of these pyjama pants, he was always so self-conscious of it falling down. Walking out of their ensuite, feeling much more comfortable in his casual clothes, he picked up his laptop and stowed it away in his wardrobe. He had no desire to work this weekend and packed his iPad instead, just in case there was an emergency.

"You're not taking your laptop with you?" Khushi asked him from in front of the dressing table as she removed the diamonds he had gifted her to put back in the safe in their room.

Khushi admired Arnav in her favourite coloured shirt on him as he stalked over to her with the gait of a predator. He leant forward with his palms resting on the dressing table, as he caged his wife in. Standing behind her with his upper chest pressing into the bare skin of her back, he pressed a kiss onto the open column of her neck that had been enticing him all evening. Feeling her pulse quicken under his lips, he pulled back and smiled mischievously at her.

"I told you that I want to spend time with you. No interruptions. Call this a prelude to our official honeymoon. I promise I will take you wherever you want to go once this season's fashion show is out of the way."

"Besides," he continued, "I can't afford to add to the list of '101 Ways to Ruin Romantic Moments' by Khushi Kumari Gupta-"

"-Singh Raizada," she finished dutifully, a beautiful smile gracing her face once more.

Arnav patted his back mentally for achieving the task of making her smile again. He let her get up and replace the jewellery back into the safe but frowned as she picked up one of her salwaar suits that she only rarely wore these days.

"Don't change Khushi," he ordered, "you know I like seeing you in red."

His wife stared at him, wondering about his curious request as he walked over and threw the salwaar suit in her hand back on the bed. She gasped as he tugged her back into his arms and ran his fingers down from her shoulders before grasping her hands in his.

"Actually, I've been wanting to take this saree off of you ever since you walked out of this room dressed earlier this evening," he admitted into her ear. "You wouldn't deny me my fantasy, would you Khushi?" He asked teasingly.

His lips hovered over hers and he watched with marvel as the tell-tale hint of red coloured her cheeks and nose. Desire flowed through his veins for his wife but he reigned it in and pulled away from her, soon, he promised himself.

"Ready?" He confirmed as he picked up the packed bag and slung it over his shoulders.

Accepting her silent shyness, he grabbed the keys to his Range Rover in one hand and her hand in his other; he confidently bounded down the stairs.

"Arre, Chotte, Khushi-ji?" Anjali called from the dining table, effectively turning everyone's gaze in their direction.

Arnav controlled the glare that threatened to form on his face as he caught Sheetal staring at Khushi's hand that was intertwined with his.

"Khushi Bhabhi, we've made a plate for you, come eat," Akash informed gently, nodding to the plate of food by the seat across him.

"Haan, Khushi Bitiya, you must be exhausted, come sit," Nani added.

"But, Chotte? Where are you going? Why do you have a bag packed?" Anjali asked, worriedly.

Arnav smiled softly, observing the indisputable love his family had for his wife and then turned his gaze to his sister.

"Actually Di, I am taking Khushi out to eat and we'll be away for the weekend," Arnav announced, hiding his grin as his wife shifted behind him, unable to meet the eyes of their family.

He watched as Akash's, Mami's and Anjali's mouths fell open in shock, the grins on both Payal's and NK's faces and the knowing glance on Nani's. Sheetal, however, looked most displeased, Arnav could detect hints on anger in her eyes as well. Arnav catalogued this reaction for later.

"Hello-Hi, Bye-Bye! Sasuma, seven months later and they are still in their honeymoon period, when will it end?" Mami commented teasingly, without the usual bitterness in her tone.

"Actually Mami, I think everyone has forgotten that it's only been a month since mine and Khushi's marriage, so if you'll excuse us, we'll be back by Monday," Arnav announced.

"Wow, Nannav, very romantic," NK praised, grinning supportively.

Arnav shrugged nonchalantly, though acknowledged the praise.

"But Arnav, you're going out at this time? I mean it's quite late, shouldn't you wait until tomorrow?" Sheetal asked.

Arnav gritted his teeth and grimaced a smile in her direction.

"I am completely capable of taking care of my wife Sheetal, you don't need to worry about that," he dismissed.

He acknowledged the sudden looks of bewilderment exchanged between his family members and Khushi stiffening behind him. Hastily, he made a retreat.

"Alright, don't call unless it's an emergency!" He announced, shamelessly wrapping his arm around Khushi's waist and pulling her out the front door before they were kept behind by their meddlesome family for longer. He grinned at the deepening blush on Khushi's face as their family members hooted, cajoled and wolf-whistled at their retreating backs.

I'm glad Arnav learned his lesson and decided to watch Sheetal before getting angry at Khushi for doubting her. He put two and two together and now at least is aware as to what is going on. The farmhouse idea is great and I'm happy that for once Khushi gave in to her want and his demand. This girl is too concerned about the family's supposed opinion and what's proper and not. How they have a great time!

I really like the way you are telling the story. It's like I'm sitting as an audience and watching this unfold.
