Neil was roaming restlessly in the house since morning. Bebe and Shweta were teasing him for being so impatient for his wifey. But Neil... He couldn't concentrate on anything. He was having a gut feeling that she needs him. She's not OK. So he called Neela and got to know that she wasn't at her home. He didn't informed the family.
Seconds coverted to minutes and minutes converted into hours. The darkness started to spread in the surrounding. And his fear loomed large.
"Kahan ho Avni.." he screamed and slammed his phone on wall. His feeling of helplessness was coming out in form of frustration.
He ran out of the house to search her. He had no idea where to search her. He sat in the car exhaled hardly and the car zoomed out of the house.
He wanted to call DD as he could help him in tracing her but he already broke his cell phone.
He was roaming on city roads cluelessly.
He halted his car on a secluded road. He dashed his hand on the stearing of car. He closed his eyes and sat in the same position for sometime. When he felt himself a bit calm and tactful, he opened his eyes.
As his Vision cleared he saw a figure walking on the road. He immediately jumped out of his car. As his eyes adjusted the pupil he could see its a girl in saree.
"Avni" he shouted to stop her.
But the girl was unaffected she neither decreased nor increased her speed.
He ran behind her. She couldn't walk properly infact was lurching along the street. Neil sprinted towards her and within some seconds reched her. He held the hand of the girl and turned her to face him.
The scene in front of his eyes made him numb. His eyes opened wide and heart drowned. He exhaled opening his mouth to release the heat building inside him.
The face was not unknown but the condition... It was enough to frighten him.
Her hairs which were always silky and shiny were ruffled, the forehead was covered with blood pointing that she must have collided with something, the deep brown eyes he couldn't see through them as due to so much scrubbing they have puffed and smudged mascara blackened them, the nose was stuffed and red, the quivering lips were dry, the cheeks were red due to continuous harsh wiping of tears. The traces of tears were visible on her cheek as a raindrop trace on Dusty leaves.
Her saree pallu was messed up. Her elbows were bruised and bleeding. She was holding a wine bottle in her hand and a broken glass piece in her fist tightly due to which blood is dripping down her fist drop by drop.
His motor nerves stopped reacting seeing Avni in such a terrible condition.
"Avni.." a word escaped his mouth as he tried to touch her face.
She shrank back staggering. Her face didn't show any signs of recognition.
A frown appeared on Neil's face, his mind went blank. He inhaled a deep breath and blowed out slowly.
The smoke in the air twisted in its artistic way, forming curls in the gloom, illuminated only by the white moonlight.
"Tum theek to ho? Ab kya ho gaya Avni?" he asked impulsively as he tried to hold her.
"Ahh.. Agar.. Agar saans ... chalte rehne..ko..theeek kehte...hai...to..to main..bilkul theek hoon." she spoke stammering as she moved back so that he couldn't touch her. Her each word pitched higher than the last.
"An..whaat..di..you asked.. Ab ku..kuch nahi hua hai.. Jo..jo hona tha...ek saal pehle ho gaya Neil." but just then she recalled something. She slapped herself many times." ohh! Soreee..soreee...not Neil...MR NEIL KAPOOR".
Neil was taken aback by her words. He knew something very horrible has happened which has broken her.
She fell on her knees in the mid of road , water welled up in her eyes and first tear dropped down her face with a loud scream. She was howling. Her screams were very high. Neil's heart trembled.
The bottle burst on the road falling from her hand. Neil bent down and opened her tightened fist to remove the glass piece.
He cupped her face.
"Avni what happened?" he said looking into her eyes.
She held clutched his white shirt with her blood filled hands. Her nails scratched his chest. She sobbed into his chest. The sobs punched through, straining her cranial nerves, ripping through her muscles, bones and gut.
Avni's pain was eating away Neil's soul. He stopped talking or asking her questions. He held her tight close to his heart and let her cry. Her screams very reverberating in the atmosphere. When she cried unceasingly Neil distances her a little so as to see her face.
"Avni kya hua? Please tell me." he said.
Avni was still crying with equal intensity. Due to hiccups she couldn't speak. She pulled her pallu and untied a note. She got a report and handed it to him with trembling hands.
Neil opened it immediately. The report would be enough to enrage him to eternity if it had been any other time. But seeing Avni's condition he reacted calmly.
"Hey! You're crying for this silly thing. You always knew that I am not Neil. But you trust him na... He'll return Avni . He'll definitely return for you. Please don't worry." he let out a laugh mocking himself.
"Now get up... Don't cry over this silly report" he stood up.
"Nahi aayega wo.. Wo chala gaya..mujhe chod kar."she screamed.
"One of the DNA samples collected from the dead bodies recovered from hijack and cremated collectively matched with IPS OFFICER NEIL KHANNA" She said sobbing loudly.
Neil felt his heartbeat to be stopped abruptly. He stooped to her in fright.
He couldn't find words to console her. Her pain pierced his heart. He sat in front of her silently. He felt a lump in his throat, his eyes were simultaneously dry and leaking.
She let out her pain and cry of despair screaming at the sky. Neil was just staring her with silver threads coming out of his butterscotch eyes.
"He went away... He didn't cared for me once. Why?? Mere saath hi aisa kyun hota hai? Wo saare vaade tod kar chala gaya... Mere dil ne dhadkna band kar diya hai.. To main zinda kyun hoon." she was mumbling feebly as her all strength vanished in screaming.
She was feeling weak and exhausted.
"I m breathing but it's really painful... It is really painful." as she said these words her sobs lowered and eventually eventually everything around her darkened into nothingness as she went into the oblivion of consciousness in Neil's arms.
He picked a lifeless body of Avni who was still breathing but wasn't alive anymore. He was moving towards his car. He placed Avni in car and tightened the seatbelt.
He drove his car to a nearby hotel. Coincidentally this was the same hotel in which she saw him first time.
Neil somehow managed to inform Prakash ji that Avni is with him and they'll come home tomorrow.
Avni didn't slept whole night. She wakes up cries endlessly and when her strength ceases she faints.
She mumbled whole night things which were inaudible to Neil but not unknown... He knew whom she's talking about.
He sat beside her whole night to caress her when she faints and to hold her when she breaks into tears.
To see Avni in that miserable condition was like theft of his spirit. He was feeling so helpless and weak for the first time in his life...
"When you snatched him away she didn't shatter because she had hope today you robbed her of that hope too... How could you.. " Neil first time complained about something to that superpower which he always thought doesn't exist in this world...
