Ajay had an affair with Nehal and wanted to marry Mehak only for her money. But Mehak didn't know any of those things. So what were the things that Ajay did that made her feel that he is not the one for her?
1. He pressed the bangle on her hand in the name of 'chedkhani' and it broke and her wrist bled. Shaurya asked her why she did not slap Ajay in return.
2. He tried to get intimate with her in a nightclub when they were dancing. NB: her family was not around.
Here, I'm not talking about the Ajay who abducted her and tried to rape her. But I do not want to think of Shaurya as good only because he at least is not that. During their engagement, Ajay's behaviour made Mehak uncomfortable. As is Shaurya's behaviour now.
The difference is the narrative of love. Because she loves him and he loves her. And so even if the behaviour is similar it is not presented similarly. I'm sure Ajay had a bad past too. He had a terrible person for a mother who taught him that only money matters, that as the boy he has right to do whatever he pleases and will not be held responsible for his actions. A bad past cannot justify continued bad behaviour in the present, otherwise every criminal would get off through such a justification.
Coming back to Shaurya and Mehak, this is a show and as someone correctly said, they will move on to something else soon once the track is done. But in the real world, love is an action, a verb rather than a noun. When you marry someone, you do not make the commitment to love only once. You have to love them over and over again, even on the bad days. You have to find a way to keep the essence of what you once had even as the manifestations of that change. Every bit of unkindness chips away at love, and every bit of care and thoughtfulness adds to it.
As you can guess, I'm pretty upset by the episode. I'm not saying that Shaurya cannot be possessive or he has to be only what I imagine. It is just that the version of Shaurya I liked best was the initial version: while arrogant and hotheaded, he also came across as someone who was sorted and mature in his take on things, who was very affectionate to the people he loved, who didn't care for social convention and who said things that weren't exactly feminist but were quite liberal. Yes, he was jealous at some level but his dislike of Ajay was also founded on Ajay's behaviour. He should at least be true to what he used to represent at one point of time. In the name of love, he has actually become the sort of man he used to detest.
