History of Single Tasking Day

Single Tasking Day arose in response to the preponderance of multi-tasking habits existing in today's society. The dangers of multi-tasking have been well documented, and have repeatedly shown to cause our work to be sub-par and to leave us even more exhausted while having accomplished far less than we could have if we had just focus on one task. There's something about focusing in and cutting out all other distractions that has the power to let us perform at our very best.

Single Tasking doesn't mean just doing one thing and having it done, and going about our day. It means that we take one task, and break it down into its parts, and completing each one thoroughly and with pure attention to detail. It's even possible, if you're having a particularly productive Single Tasking Day, to complete more than one task, the trick is to do them one at a time so you don't get overwhelmed or lost in the details. Don't let the pressure to multi-task impact you doing your very best, instead, take it all one step at a time, and complete that task to the best of your ability.

How to celebrate Single Tasking Day

Single Tasking Day is a day to get things done, one at a time. The best way to celebrate is to take a break from all the distractions that come with multi-tasking and just focusing on one task. Find the one that's the most pressing in your life, and make today "that day" to get it done. You'll be pleasantly surprised to discover just how successful you can be when you put your all into getting a single task completed. Single Tasking Day is your freedom from the shackles of multi-tasking, relax, be productive, and enjoy!

You know those days when you just can't be bothered to get out of bed? Well, Inconvenience Yourself Day is not one of them. So, put on your happy face and go out there and be nice! The concept may have originated from Ms. Julie Thompson and it was meant to serve as an incentive for others to acknowledge their appreciation for acquaintances or strangers and to promote a respectful attitude and an attentive demeanour. We can all celebrate by simply opening a door for an old lady, giving up a seat to a pregnant lady, helping a child cross the street, stopping to ask if a tourist is lost and needs directions, offering to carry a suitcase up the stairs and generally making a small sacrifice. But most of all, we have to reflect on what others need and how we can help. It can make a big difference!

The origins of Walking the Dog Day are a bit obscure. Presumably it was started by an animal lover, or maybe it was the dogs themselves that got together and decided they needed a way of getting us humans off the couch and on the end of a lead.

Whoever started it, this is an easy day to take part in. Make sure you have suitable clothing and footwear for the conditions, grab your mobile phone, a bottle of water, some plastic bags for picking up - you know what - and away you go.

The great thing about walking dogs is that you can do it almost anywhere. Down the street, in the park, on the beach, the possibilities are endless. The exercise is good for you and for the dog, and since dogs are very social animals you'll meet other owners too. No dog? Borrow one from a neighbour and get walking!

Bullying is a growing problem in the world today, and every year we hear more and more incidents coming up of bullying in schools everywhere. Bullying doesn't stop in school, though, it extends out into the world outside of school and even into the virtual world of the internet. Bullying doesn't tend to follow any kind of rhyme or reason, it's merely the exertion of power over those who are weaker or stand out as unusual. Pink Day is a day dedicated to beating the bullies and breaking the cycle that creates and perpetuates this damaging behavior in schools.

History of Pink Day

Pink Day was established in 2007 after a pair of students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, saw one of their fellow students at Central Kings Rural High School being bullied for no other reason than that they were wearing a pink shirt. In a stroke of brilliance, these two got together and decided to show support for the student and take a stand against bullying by getting everyone at their school to wear a pink shirt the next day. Pink Day was created to stomp out all bullying and spread understanding, and it's a concept spreading throughout the world.

How to celebrate Pink Day

Start the day by picking out your favorite pink garment and putting it on, especially if you're a male-bodied person. Get out there and take a stand against bigotry wherever you find it by making sure the offenders know their calls will not go unanswered. If you see people getting bullied or harassed, be sure to walk up to them and help them out, don't let them think they're alone in the world. Pink Day is a day to stand up against the injustice of harassment and bullying, especially against minorities and those of the LGBTQ community. If you've ever been bullied, you know how important it can be to have someone stand up for you. On Pink Day, you can stand up for everyone with a simple wardrobe choice.

As sweet potatoes are one of the most important crops in the world, it only makes sense that Cook a Sweet Potato Day has arisen over the ages. Sweet potatoes are delicious and chock-full of all sorts of vitamins and minerals your body needs to stay healthy, and it's high time we stopped looking at them as just an addition to our Thanksgiving dinner.

The History of Cook a Sweet Potato Day

No official origin of Sweet Potato Day itself can be found, however it is likely that various cultures have honoured this food for centuries. In fact, the sweet potato has been cultivated and enjoyed for thousands of years, as the origin and domestication of the sweet potato are estimated to have happened at least 5000 years ago. When digging up the remains of an ancient Peruvian culture, researchers found remnants of sweet potatoes that may date back as far as 8000 B.C. When introduced to Europe in the 16th century, the sweet potato was automatically declared a delicacy and was very expensive, which was especially strange seeing as how it had taken the English 200 (!) years to start treating Irish potatoes like real food. Till this day, sweet potatoes are a staple in countries such as Uganda and Rwanda, and they are also very popular in most Asian countries, from Japan to Vietnam to India.
