@pallavi25 and @-DZ-, An idea of where a film's lifetime collections are heading can be determined within a week or two after the film's release, especially when the collections of the film start dropping, as it happened with Raees due to its mixed public WOM (Word of Mouth). With the collections of the film dropping, it became quite apparent that the film would end up finishing its run with collections around the 130 crore mark, which is why BOI has given it's Semi Hit verdict. The verdict given by the different trade sources/analysts will vary, some will declare the film a Hit, others will say Semi-Hit.
The budget of the film was approximately 92 crore, and the producers have generated revenue of 175 crore for a profit of 83 crore (175-92=83), through the sale of the film to distributors, satellite rights, music rights, and overseas revenue. However, the price at which the Indian distributors bought the film was approximately 65-70 crore, and to recover that money, the film needed to collect in the 130-140 crore range (double of what they bought the film for, as their share of the collection will be approximately half). Basically, the film is very profitable for producers, but will just about recover costs for distributors or perhaps, be a bit of a loss for them. When the film is very profitable for producers but a loss for distributors, the film is usually given Semi-Hit verdict.
