Who ever is claiming @iamsrk #Raees did not do well commercially is misleading. #Raees for sure is money making film for all concerns.

@ranbirrocks It's funny you mention the thought of Hit tag being based on public acceptance, because I remember there was a time where I too (many years ago) thought that the verdict of a film (Flop, Hit, Blockbuster, etc) was based ONLY on how much public appreciated a film, nothing to do with money 😆 But to answer your question, box office verdicts are based purely on the economics, the money involved with the film. With that being said, the public appreciation of a film directly impacts how long the film will run in theatres and how much the film will collect in its lifetime collections. For example, Dangal would have never made 375+ crore if it didn't have extraordinary WOM.
Actually, a producer may want to sell his film to distributors at a price higher than the budget, and then with added revenue from satellite, music, etc they would gain profits. When the film is sold to distributors, the collections of the film from theatres is divided between distributors and exhibitors, not producers.

Producers want to sell their film for as high of a price as they can to distributors so that they can gain as much revenue as possible. A distributor will buy a film for a high price only if he is confident about the prospects of the film, keeping in mind the star power, content of the film, etc. Producers often show their film to distributors before release, and then the distributor and producer can decide on a price depending on what the distributor feels as well.

@_I_M_Sultan and -DZ- Raees is a Semi-Hit/Hit, but it's just that people have much higher expectations from a Shah Rukh Khan film at the box office, so even a 100 crore grosser SemiHit/Hit for a SRK film feels like a box office flop for his standards.

Bobby - Most people follow my definition of Hit😆. Who gets into budget ,Ticket prices , footfalls and statistics of BO

So in theory, it is entirely possible that a producer made small budget movie, sold at thin margin and it goes on to become a huge Hit at BO and producer doesn't gain anything from the success.

This is a bad business model. Are there no deals where Producer sells at low price and gets a share in profits from ticket sales ?
I am never putting my money in film making😆

^kya aap dono sach mein maa-beta hain? 😲 I didn't know 😳
But yes, the general public just looks at the 100/200/300 crore club and how good or bad the film is as their perception of Hit/Flop.

Sorry I forgot to explain the other part, the distributor and producer will actually share profits if there is a profit. From what I know, the distributor and exhibitor share the net box office collections, but the profit that the distributors get will be shared with the producer. If there is a loss, then no sharing.

Not from BOI, they have it as a Semi-Hit. The verdict from other trade analysts is still awaited, but I think some of them will give Hit verdict.
