Not disappointed, my dear Ranjana, which is something I never could be with you! Besides, I really enjoyed what you did come up with. It was most entertaining, especially the bit about the standard issue suhaag raat. 😆But I do want your views on Helena. Before you dish them out for my delectation, do read the posts by Shailaja and Tejaswini in the 2/3 pages before this one. They are fascinating.Take care, my dear, and do not let the work get you down.Shyamala Aunty
Hello Auntyji! :) I'm back after the successful completion of - well, it wasn't actually work. More of a labour of love :)) Anyways, let's get back to the show.
Ah yes...entertainment, entertainment, entertainment - that is one thing I can provide on command 😎😆 The nautanki never ends in Ranjana land 😉😆
I've read all your beautiful posts, and I will post my comments with the selection of my favourite bits in the respective threads soon. But I unhappily admit the ability to analyse the characters is eluding me as of now. I'm yet to feel drawn to the show in spite of the presence of good actors and a fast-moving storyline. So, presently, my super-snooty mind ignores me when I ask for its opinions on anything apart from the storytelling aspect😡😆. Until I feel invested in the characters, my ghamandi mann will continue to behave insolently with me😒.
Btw I saw the latest promo. And I could actually visualise the CVs astride the wishes that function as their horses, screaming with bloodlust as they eliminate/race past the hurdles of infuriating technicalities that had been required for laying the background for the actual tale, and gallop towards their beloved motherland - the zone of Teesri patni ka pehle pati ke liye nafrat bhara pyaar, apni sautan(s) ke saath vishbhara takraar, aur kathor saasu maa ke haatho ho rahe shatakoti prahaar 😲😆. That is the enchanted land where their creative juices will be unleashed, and will tear across the land with fearsome force, scaring away pesky scavengers of logic with thunderous sounds😆. All in all, me thinks a shower of trps is around the corner😉.
Aunty, you say I'm extravagant in my appreciation, but I seriously feel my words fall short each time :)
My favourite parts in this post -
Though why she should always be identified with the proud city that was destroyed because of her is something I have never understood! I share your confusion. I think it would be more appropriate to say Helen Offed Troy 😆 Sorry, sad joke, I know 😆
It is also difficult to understand how, given that Padmanand loves his daughter so very much, he is ready to tie her for life to a ruffian like Malayaketu solely in order to safeguard his throne. Good old self-preservation instinct, aunty😆. Reminds me of a story I'd read long ago. A monkey tries to cross a river with its child. It initially holds the child far above its head to protect it. However, when the water levels rise and the monkey's life is threatened, it puts the baby down and steps on the infant to make it to the shore. Padmanand is the reincarnation of that particular monkey😳😆.
I too like Tun-Tun Bhabhi😆. She is adorable, and her guile-free observations are usually paisavasool 😆
The Chandra: Angry and Vulnerable, Bitter Breakdown and Remarkable Reassurance sections were amazing. Nothing escapes your eye. And have to say... you make the reader empathise deeply with the characters.
These lines - As he listens to Helena's words, Chandra's eyes seem to be clinging to hers, to draw from them some of her infectious courage and determination. The seeping back of strength and courage into his own eyes is remarkable. They light up, slowly but surely, like the rays of the sun at dawn peeping over the horizon. The old Chandra is coming back. Beautiful👏
Helena: Strong , self-assured, and supportive - Wonderful, in-depth analysis of an intriguing character 👏 As for EBM, you already know our thoughts regarding her insufferable homilies are quite in sync😆.
Helena-Chandra 1: You've described this scene, and especially Chandra's reactions, so adorably😆. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read :)
Helena-Chandra 2: The description, the analysis, the highlighting of small but crucial moments - All done terrifically from start to end
Helena does not once mention her own interest in his winning out eventually, but speaks only of her faith in him. She speaks only as his partner, his ally, his source of strength when all else seems to have failed. Striking point. It felt like a defining moment for a character that, until then, appeared to be consumed with her own hurt and rage.
The power of one human being to connect so deeply with another is always a mystery...till... That is the slot that Helena fills right now for Chandra. This whole portion was touching and thought-provoking <3. And not just with respect to the show.

Not bad at all. In fact, I have often wondered what she did post-Troy, so to speak, after she was lugged back home to Sparta by Menelaus. Who knows what she was up to later in life? Women with such calamitous beauty as hers are not made for staid domesticity. It is just that Homer lost interest in her, and there was probably no other bard worthy of following her future activities!

Yes, my dear, it applies equally to real life as well.
